lately when trying to shut off the car we get a message that says to put car in park something to that wording before shutting it off

issuse being it is in park
you have to put it back in drive and really basically shove the controller to park to get it to go off

were calling tomorrow about it but just thought if anyone out there has any ideas what this could mean
not sure if its connected but we just had a new battery put in a few months ago
thanks

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is out of adjustment.

Oddly enough, somebody from work was just talking about this happening to her car just recently.

She has a 20-something Malibu (not too far out of warranty). It was not a cheap fix unfortunately, but she got it fixed at a dealership, that might have caused the price to be higher. I am thinking it was about $700.

A few years ago we had a Traverse that had the "shift to park issue". It was random at first then became more frequent. The local dealer fixed it as it was under warranty. All they said was "it's a known Chevrolet issue".

Interesting unfortunately ours is a 2018 Malibu.
If they know it’s a Chevy issue why can’t they just get it right before it’s on the road
We’ll just have to wait and see
Thanks for the replies

Is it expensive to get a sensor readjusted

It just bugs me when car manufacturers know there’s an issue but do nothing to make sure it doesn’t keep happening
We had a Plymouth voyager mini van Thst was a pain since we bought it.
We started with battery/starting issues until our mechanic. We were at first taking it to the dealer. Figured out it was the altinator
Then we went to tramission issues which Plymouth knew about but didn’t to anthing to fix it.

We have a 2024 and we’re at the dealer now for its 5th update and expect 6th before Christmas.

Not all “updates” aka recalls are notifications sent to you nor always listed on the website.
We ask.

Download the Chevy app and enter your VIN number and check it time to time for “updates.”
BTW: Last update made it worse.IMG_4287.png

That is assuming it is adjustable. If not, it looks like the part alone, if that is the issue, is $100. No idea how much labor is. I think auto makers do try to prevent issues from happening, but sometimes a problem doesn't show up until the cars are on the road, and sometimes something that was supposed to correct it, doesn't. Look at the current engine problems Hyundai/Kia is having, and Toyota is having with the Tundra turbo charged engines. Debris from the manufacturing process seems to be the issue. Hyundai/KIA has been replacing engines for years now. Toyota went so far earlier this year to order their dealers to stop selling the Tundra until they could put new engines in them.

If you get a *message* why not go to AutoZone or similar place for a Free Scan???

My DH has a 2014 Chevy Equinox and since September has had all sorts of issues. Different warnings have come on and he experienced different issues. He has taken it several times to our mechanic and several times to the dealer and hopefully it has been a few weeks since the last repair that this is it for a while.

just coming back to say I was searching around and found under the lemon law and the reports of others that this is happening to it looks like ours falls into this
it says2016-2019 chevy malibu our is a 2018
Im not holding my breath just yet cause with one of our cars we bought the extended
bumper to bumper

we started having issues with the seats not working right
when we took it to the dealer we were told the extended doesnt cover bumper to bumper
I told them well the last time I looked the seats were between the front and back bumper
at first she didnt know what to say then she comes up with
it sis confusing to a lot of people so were changing how we say it
didnt help us though
although a few months later DH had it parked out in front of church and someone came along and hit it so hard that the front and back passenger wheels were pushed up on the sidewalk which had high curbs
so at that it really didnt matter
good thing the person stayed and waited for DH
he told the police he didnt know how it happened ok
thanks again for all the helpful advice it looks like we might have something here

There is harness that is part of your shifter that has a switch in it that goes bad. Most likely your dealer will replace the harness inside the shift control and add a jumper harness, or possibly replace the shift control itself. Being doing these for years on Malibu, Traverse, Volt.

It's a known issue with this generation of Malibu. It's a relatively cheap fix, installing a jumper to the wiring harness. Since you're probably out of warranty, I would make an appointment with an independent mechanic.

Hyundai/KIA has been replacing engines for years now.
Kia replaces the original block with a remanufactured block only after the (KSDS) knock sensor detection system is updated. The lifetime warranty covers the short block assembly, consisting of the engine block,
crankshaft and main bearings, connecting rods and connecting rod bearings, and
pistons when damaged due to connecting rod bearing failure.

Not familiar with the specifics. I just know my independent mechanic has a handful of KIA/Hyundai owners as customers who had engine failures after 100,000 miles that got new engines at no cost. So his first recommendation with Kia/Hyundai owners with major engine problems is to go to the dealer and see if they are covered. So far, they all have been.

The information is outdated as the policy has been updated to include the KSDS firmware revision to mitigate the risk of crankshaft rod protrusion through the block, etc.
