Auto flushing toliets

Yesterday DH and I took the kids to Kings Island for the day. My DD 6 is high functioning autistic and has always been a little leary of auto flushing potties. I have in the past been able to get her to us them if I put my hand infront of the sensor so that it wouldn't flush as soon as she wiggled. Yesterday was another story completly. She totaly refused to use the potty if it was an auto flusher. We wound up taking her to either the first aid station or to the baby care station. Now I rember from our trip 3 years ago that at WDW that they only have auto flushers as well. I was a problem then too and she was just newly potty trained! We are going in October so my question is where can I take her to the potty. We are only going to EPCOT and MK. Thanks for any help you can give me in this matter1

Can you do a trial run at a mall or somewhere and use a band-aid to cover the sensor? That might make her more comfortable since you would have your hands free and wouldn't have to do the "cover the sensor while squeezing beside the toilet" dance. Yes, I've been there, done that!

I thought I saw a post on another thread where someone covered the “eye” with a small post-it note. They would be cheaper and easier to access than a band-aid.

We've used post it notes for several years. They stick well, are easy to remove when you want to take them off, are inexpensive and easy to carry with you. She may be more accepting if she has some special post it notes (they come in many colors and you can get some with cartoon characters) or if she has control of putting them on and removing them. If she is verbal, I'd suggest asking her to help you figure out a way around the 'toilet problem.'
Trying to find restrooms without them would be hard. You will find auto flush toilets in very many of the restrooms at WDW.

Have you ever tried social stories? I'm sure there is something out there about the automatic flushers. I'm an SLP in preschool and we have a little guy who is very high functioning and is reading and the social stories have worked miracles with potty situations. I'm not back to work yet, so I don't know if our book has anything, but maybe your resource teacher or SLP can look into it for you. If not, send me a PM and I will check it out after August 23rd.

I'm a plumber. I notice plumbing. I also have powerflush toilets in my home. (I liked the way they worked in WDW so much I replaced all mine with powerflush!!!) I can tell you that we go to WDW several times every year, and I have NEVER seen ANY bathroom in WDW that DIDNT have powerflush toilets. Some are sensor toilets, some are handle flush, but ALL I have seen are powerflush. I cant recall a single gravity fed toilet anywhere on the property.

So if loud toilets are a problem... You'll have to find a way around it. Ive heard some say they bring earplugs, which is a good idea. I know even I have trouble going in a bathroom full of loud, screaming people and toilets booming every few seconds and people yanking on the door, and kids looking under the stalls... (and I'm an adult), I can only imagine an autistic child trying to cope with it. At first my son would scream everytime I or he flushed one. Now hes used to them. The companion bathrooms help with the "people noise".
