We are planning our 3rd trip to the world and ae toying with the idea of staying onsite which we have never done.ds has aspergers so im a little worried if he could actually cope with all 6 of us being restricted to such a small amount of space. If he does have a melt down where can he go to escape us to calm himself down etc etc
Any viws from others who have succesfully stayed onsite welcome equally would like to know if you have tried it and it didnt work out,
Thanks

Could you stay at one of the villa resorts? You would have a little more room to spread out.

HI,

We too are planning our 3rd family trip to Disney this winter. We are a family of 5 our 3 boys are all on the spectrum. We have always stayed at the All Star Music in the family suite. It has a separate bedroom, a living room, 2 bathroom and a kitchinette. We like the layout, we don't feel cramped and love the kitchinette. In the past years we had some groceries delivered to the room and were able to have all our brakefest in the room.

We also had some dinner in our room when the boys were a bit tired so we stayed away from the crowded restaurent.

This room is a good alternative if you can't afford the more $$$$ villas.

We loved staying on site no having to deal with parking, having the freedom to split into groups come and go as we pleased, etc. We always go last week of january when the crowd is low, the only time we had issues with the buses were right after the fire works, as to be expected. But I was told that if we needed to make a quick escape we could get a cab back for about 10$.

Hope this helps, good luck with your planning.

Well, with 6 of you, you'd be getting two rooms, or a villa, so you should have some room to make a 'quiet zone' or somesuch - maybe in a closet? My daughter actually slept in the closet one night, as she didn't want to sleep with her sister...

IF a villa is out of the budget you might want to consider a cabin at fort wilderness, they have the benefit of having a kitchen if you child has any dietary limitations (not to mention it is a boat ride to MK).

We've solved this asme problem by buying DVC. Realizing this is not an option, or a preference for all, you may want to look into "renting" points
from a DVC member. You would be able to stay at a DVC resort (1br, 2br or Grand Villa) for a fraction of the cost to rent these same accomodations using $$$

As an example, I helped my SIL stay with us at OKW in July. The rate to rent for cash would have been clsoe to $3000,00 for the 2br she stayed in. By renting points from another member, she was able to stay for $1500.00. She's done this twice with similar savings.

If interested, Disboards has a rental board. Keep in mind that while this is commonly done, I beleive this not an officialy sanctioned DVC activity.

Good Luck

Thanks everyone for the replies you ahve certaintly given me something to think about there !!
We noramlly have an off site villa and was looking for the on site experience but we didnt realise disney did villas - best of both worlds there !!
Also going to look at dvc renting !!
Thanks again x

Honestly we spent so little time in the room that there wasn't time for my boys to get freaked out by how many of us there were. :thumbsup2 If you come back for a rest time and he's too restless to stay in the room you can always swim. We also took late night swims after coming back from the parks to help the boys unwind. In the morning we got up, dressed, ate breakfast and packed our stuff for the day. By the end of the day both boys were so tired they went to sleep quickly.:yay:
