Hey everyone...

This may sound a bit odd, but does anyone know of a really good AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant in the Orlando area? I just recently moved here for an internship at Universal and no one seems to know where one is. I love Mexican food and I'm going through withdrawal! LOL. Thanks guys! :wave2:

Funny you posted this. For the last few days i've been wondering the same thing, we don't have any good one's here in Mi in an area i would go to. I hope someone responds with some ideas.

Being from Texas when we go to Orlando we are in MAJOR withdrawl. I think the only place I find decent is Chevy's. I keep a business card in my wallet.

Address:12547 State Road 525( Right out side of Downtown Disney).
Phone:1-407-827-1052

I like Chevy's and the margaritas are big enough to drown in, but I'm originally from southern California, and there's nothing "authentic" (IMO) about Chevy's version.

Have you tried an Orlando phonebook, checking out some of the places with just a line under restaurants, rather than big glitzy ads?

Another place to check would be to post a note on chowhound.com--
here's their Florida board:

And here's a thread from 2003: called "decent Mexican food in Orlando"

As soon as DH and I moved here, this was on the priority list to find some great mexican food! Luckily, it didn't take us long to find Garibaldi's in Kissimmee. It's a little closer to the town of kissimmee than WDW and takes probably 15-20 minutes to get there from WDW but, the food is sssssooooooo good! I always recommend it when friends come in town and we go all the time. Not to knock Chevy's, but I really enjoy this place more- seems more authentic, and not tex-mex. :cloud9:
1804 West Vine Street (which is the same thing as 192)

to look at a menu!
Hope to see ya'll there!
Adios!

I bet you'd find something REALLY authentic in Polk County. Head down 17. You see a few Mexican places near the groves.

Thanks Melissa! I checked out that link you provided. Oh, my those margaritas look good :drinking1 The food looks pretty good too. We'll have to try this place in March. I'm always looking for nonchain restaurants to try when we go on vacation (one of the reasons I really love Sanibel, FL).

Santiago's on Route 27 at the base of the Citrus Tower in Clermont, just north of Route 50. Great food and inexpensive.

Thanks guys for the great advice. I've searched the phonebook but ya never quite know what you may be getting yourself into. I'm suprised there aren't more Mexican Restaurants down here. MAybe we can all go into business together and open up one...LOL!

I don't know if this place is still there or not, but PR's on Kirkman is great! It is in the middle of a little shopping complex very near Universal. If you are on Kirkman heading away from Universal towards 50 it would be on your left hand side. I think it is in the same area as Bubba Lou's Bodacious Bar-B-Que.

OK, I just did a search and I think the one by Universal is gone, but there is still one in Winter Park. You have to go try it, it is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had, and really reasonable prices!

Jocelyn

P.S. Great margaritas too!!
