RUBBER thong-throwing contests, dogs in utes, barbecue breakfasts and street parades will all feature in Queensland's Australia Day celebrations tomorrow.
The theme throughout the country is "Australia Day, Celebrate What's Great", and Premier Peter Beattie has urged Queenslanders to join in the celebrations.
He said the spectre of terrorism meant communities had to unite and "reflect on how lucky we are".
In Brisbane, an Australia Day Parade will start at 4.30pm. The streets of South Bank will throb with colour, music and excitement as floats, performers and animals make their way from Suncorp Park across Victoria Bridge to South Bank Parklands.
Queensland Commemorative Events and Celebrations Committee chairwoman Marion McMahon said the parade would be one of the most innovative and spectacular processions.
"We have put a lot of work into designing this parade so that it embraces not only our Australian culture but the diversity and richness of the Australian way of life," Ms McMahon said.
On the Gold Coast, Australia Day Celebrations will be held in the Evandale Parklands at Bundall.
Celebrating Australia's heritage and cultural diversity, the event is the coast's biggest free one-day event.
It will feature a wide range of entertainment and activities, including the 120m Conrad Jupiters Gift footrace, and the Schweppes Rodeo.
On the Sunshine Coast, Australia Zoo will have free face painting, billy tea and damper and a thong-throwing competition. Prizes include a commemorative Steve Irwin surfboard.
