Found out at 8PM that I'm spending the weekend in Austin. I want a place to stay that is FUN ... near interesting things, and also near the University of Texas. I would also like it to have a hot tub. Recommendations?

Thanks!

Hi,

Dont know if this is too late for you, but as you did not give price range...here is an assortment. First, UT does not have too much super close - but downtown is not far and has some great places....

Austin Motel - quirky-fun-hip-super reasonable-not too fancy, but celebrated by locals - located near downtown - people love this place and you cant beat the prices if you can get in. They are always

Four Seasons - on the water or with city view - more pricey but very nice - happening bar at night and fabulous Sunday brunch

Driskill - right on 6th Street - a very fun place - mid range - a classic

Omni - also in 6th Street vicinity - nice - more business folk, but still location is good

Those would be my top 4 and places I have stayed. They are all online so you can check them out.

Good luck, have fun! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hotel San Jose is on South Congress in a cool area - a very hip, trendy place that was featured on Great Hotels (Travel Channel) along side the Driskill which is lovely, historic and right in the middle of downtown.

Some more "chain" places that are cool would be the Radisson on Cesar Chavez (is right on the water), Hampton Inn has a place on San Jacinto that is right across the street from Four Seasons and near some really cool places (check out the Cedar Door for drinks).

La Quinta has a location on 11th, that is probably as close to UT as I would know of. The other places would be further from campus but there is bus service (www.capmetro.org) and the 'Dillo bus is free and will get you all over downtown including up by campus. There are late night 'Dillo's that run well into the night.

The kite festival is at Zilker Park this weekend - very cool!!

Writing in from the Hampton Inn on San Jacinto! :) I'm moving over to a Doubletree tonight next to the Texas Swim Center. I tried to get into the Four Seasons - they were booked (bummer).

Thanks for the advice!
