Just wondering, do you take your own vegemite with them? (I can't manage for 5 weeks without it) Do you have trouble when you declare it? Should I try to remember where I put it so I can show off my good taste? Any other food items that you take?

ummm...no I've never actually thought of that but I don't THINK it would be a problem???? I'm not sure if there is anywhere you can check with?

What I wish I could take is BREAD...real unsweetened bread. But beyond suimin and lollies we have never taken anything.

We took one of the tubes of Vegemite with us last time (2.5 years ago). Our 11mth old was addicted to the stuff!

We declared food when we arrived, but they didn't even want to look at it. I do remember someone mentioning something about having problems getting Vegemite through because of one of the ingredients.

But yes, if you're declaring anything make sure you can find it easily.

Is anyone else stressing about these huge crowd reports? We will be at the parks for opening when we are there, using Fastpasses etc, but I'm still a little concerned.

I was so looking forward to seeing Fantasmic, but since it will be Halloween weekend it's not looking too likely DD3 detests being crowded/people in her space etc and to be quite honest if the park is at capacity (or even remotely close) I don't think any of us will enjoy being squished.

We've been to DL 3 times before, twice in February (park was empty because it was raining ) and once in May. In May the weekends were definitely more crowded, but weekdays were awesome.

Anyhow we have 14 days to go Planning to dig out the suitcases today...

I remember reading somewhere last year about the US not allowing vegemite in due to the high levels of iron??(or one of the ingredients). This is only something new as some laws changed over there about the levels of iron in food. However I am unsure if it is just for importing goods, not for personal consumption

We are. We went the same time last year as we are going this year and last year it was sooooooooo quiet. We got in front of the fence for fantasmic, walked onto the buzz light year ride over and over and even Nemo took us only about 15 minutes to have a go. Our longest wait was for toy story mania. We went there expecting to wait for hours for every ride and we were so happy and amazed when we didn't have to.

Now that we've had it so good we want it like that again and doubt it.

Should have no probs - you can even uy it over there from specialty stores. Just make sure it's a new tube/jar in the checked bags and remember where it is!!! Declare on the way in and you'll be fine.

The other thing we took is tea bags. They can be puchased but a limited selection. The pack we took was still in its plastic. Again declare. Declaring is the best and safest thing you can do.

Fantastic idea. It was slim pickings in Maui...if they have english breakfast or something recognisable you PAY for it.
One thing we are planning to do is buy a cheap kettle at target and then leave it behind because the coffeemaker water is a nasty taste.

We did the same with the kettle. Purchased from Target, I think there was only one or two to choose from!!! Around US$30??, well worth it if you need a decent cup of tea Like me.

A good cup of tea was the one thing I missed while in the US. Even the tea bags they do sell are not the same as the ones we get here - next time I will definitely be taking my own tea bags.

Thanks for the info re the vegemite, I was thinking about green tea last night. Only problem is we drink 'Dragon Pearls'. They look very suspect, I'll just hope for the best!

But the crowds at DL OMG - we arrived the week of 20/9 and they were very light - too good to be true actually but after 25/9 when the Halloween shows started - massive crowds and huge waits sorry to say - pick your rides , do a plan , use fastpass wisely 9 though for some reason a lot of fast passess were closed and a lot like space mountain closed due early due to popularity.

Having said that we didnt miss a thing and had the time of our lives but yes it is exceptionally crowded at present

Thanks (I think ) for the crowd feedback. I'm going to have to have a chat with DH about how important it will be to collect FP's early etc. We've never encountered large crowds at DL before, so this will be all new.

You can get another one as soon as the time window on your first fastpass is open. So, if you got a FP for Space Mountain with a return time of 9am, you could collect another FP at 9am even if you haven't used the Space mountain one. Does that make sense?

Hi, Has anyone taken their Australian phone over recently. We have an iPhone and a Nokia (not sure of model #). I'm pretty sure the iPhone at least will work. Sooo, what sim cards do you buy? We are travelling mainly California on the west, but also a few states on the East coast. The phones will be used for calling each other, not to call home, we'll use skype for that.

Any phone that is tri-band will work. The iphone works it out for itself. It even worked in Japan. Other phones you will have to check the settings and change the band.

We just go with international roaming. We are with Telstra.
Unless you are making a HUGE amount of calls the costs aren't too bad and it is soo much simpler.
There are companies that sell sim cards to use in the US at "cheaper" rates so if you plan to make LOTS of calls then this is a possible option. You buy them here. (We went to an AT&T store in the US and there was nothing to buy there.) But as I have never used one I can't recommended one.

For calling home we buy a $5 AT&T phone card at Walmart which lasts for ages so long as it isn't a payphone. (so hotel phone)
