We were trying to book Aulani's Ama Ama for sunset dinner on our last night. So far can only get a very late dinner. And, that was with a Disboarder that is there helping me out :)

If we went to the Oleo room is there entertainment at sunset and could we get appetizer's and see it from there, or one of the happy hours at the marriott next door?

Thank you!

When are you going? Unless there's been some incredible change I'd think you could reserve that time when you arrive.

Ama Ama will be the best spot. We never were at the Oleo room at that time but I don't even really recall a view of the ocean from there.

Going early August. Whole week is booked except for late at night. Someone even kindly checked for me in person!

Definitely not from the Oleo room. It's tucked too far back into the resort to see anything.

In our week there we never got to see a good sunset due to clouds. Hope your luck is better. We ended seeing our best sunset over on the Big Island.

Can't find my sunset photo from Ama Ama - darn. We had dinner there and the view was amazing. We had a fairly clear evening and it was stunning watching the sun set over the ocean. I would keep trying and hope something opens up.

The view from the Olelo room will not be anywhere near as good. But you can always grab something to go from Off the Hook or the Olelo room and go sit on the beach and watch the sun go down.

IMO it doesnt really matter where you are as long as you can see the sunset. Aulani is really a beautiful resort with a fantastic location. You will have a blast.

I agree. You can't see the sunset from the Olelo Room.

If you really want to see the sunset and can't get into Ama Ama, there are other viewing spots around Aulani. Get some take-out from the Ulu Cafe and walk out to the point near one of the entrances to the lagoon. You'll have a great view of the sunset! Here is a photo showing the point from one of the Grand Villas (note: this photo was taken in September 2012 before the Ka Maka renovations were started) :

Here are some photos of the area near the point:

And here is a photo of the sunset we enjoyed at Ama Ama, which was in mid-September. As you can tell, the foliage can block some of the sunset.

There's a patio right in front of AMA AMA where you could sit to see the sunset if you can't get in to dinner there. I agree that there are plenty of other sunset viewing spots. While I'm sure it's lovely watching the sunset while eating dinner, we didn't think it was worth the dinner prices when there are so many other spots.

I'm with PP for hopping to the deck in FRONT of Ama Ama for the sunset. Just bring a drink from Off the Hook and enjoy! Other great dinner options are Mariposa at Neimann Marcus way out at the Ala Moana Center. Beautiful view of the park and ocean at sunset and really great food. Book online on Open Table. No sunset view, but do an early dinner at Monkeypod Kitchen across the street from Aulani. Happy Hour ends at 5:30 and they'll honor the prices in the dining room. Apps are fantastic and drinks are like $8. Oh, and for a dinner that'll beat any sunset on the island, get a reservation (4+ weeks out) at Alan Wong's Honolulu and order the tasting menu.

I'm just curious for a future trip, do they book dining 180 days out like WDW, or is it a shorter booking window?

Just came back from Aulani. I could not get 6-6:30 reservations at Ama Ama but when we checked in I was able to make reservations for 6:15 for the last night we were there. We had dinner at the Italian Restaurant at the J. W. Marriott next door and also saw the sunset from there.

Rickdeni how was the Italian restaurant at the Marriott? Looking for other dining options while at Aulani.

I took the 8:15 and will keep trying for earlier after checkin

Thank you!

What is the best time to try and reserve for sunset at Ama Ama? We are going in November.
Thanks.

Likewise interested in other dining options since the plan is to be at Aulani for a week. I've never been to Hawaii so I'm very unfamiliar with the area.

Hawaii pretty consistently has a 12 hour day night year round. I googled sunset times for November 2014 in Oahu and it ranged from 5:55 to 5:48 PM. Pretty early but it might still fit into our time zones for at home.
