I was just looking at the Aulani points charts and noticed Aulani hotel room. What is that? What is the difference between an Aulani hotel room and a studio? I was under the impression all of Aulani was DVC.

Yes, Aulani has both hotel rooms and DVC Villas. The hotel rooms wont have a wet bar or microwave and are slightly smaller. They come with either 2 queen beds or a king with sofa. If you don't need the DVC exclusive facilities I'd take a hotel room to save a few points.

Why not check out their website, they have photos and video tours of many rooms it will give you a better idea.

My personal take on the hotel rooms (not fact based) is that they are rooms that were very unappealing to guests of the hotel. Rooms that face the pool but are first floor so you can't really see anything - but can certainly hear the noise.

That said, to save a few points we'd probaby use them. I believe they still have a mini-fridge and we just do fruit or cereal for breakfast, so losing a full kitchenette wouldn't bother us.

Thank you for your replies. I will check out the videos. My understanding was that this whole place was DVC so I was surprised at the "hotel room" category.

We have stayed in both a direct purchase "hotel room" and the DVC "Studio". There are pros and cons to both. We are a family of 4 with two older teens who are adult in size and we found the 2 beds in the hotel room a much more comfortable situation for us for sleeping. Two adults on the pull out in the studio was just not as comfortable. The sofa bed did allow for more room during the day but we were really in our room to sleep and change clothes, not much more so that wasnt a big deal for us. We rented DVC points for the studio so we had free parking for that stay whereas the hotel room was a direct purchase so we had to pay the 35 to park. If you are using/renting points for the hotel room instead, then I guess the parking is free. We had been upgraded with the hotel room so we had a spectacular view of the ocean and that was great but obviously not always the case. As Meemoo said, the studio has a small kitchenette and the hotel room has only a mini fridge but I forget the exact items in both
