Aulani beach questions

What's the beach like at Aulani? Is the sand rocky- do you need water shoes? Are the lounge chairs you see in the pictures available for free, or do you need to rent them? Any fish to be seen?

Can you hear music playing? Is it a restful place, or more lively?

The beach is very calm, it's a carved out lagoon so there are no waves or tough water. Very sandy and smooth. I've never felt a need to wear water shoes.

Yes the lounge chairs/umbrellas are free (first come first served). There are also two seat casabellas that you can rent.

I don't recall hearing music. It can be pretty lively depending how busy it is. There are people playing in the water, on the sand, paddle boarding, etc.

no you don't need water shoes the sand is course but very soft

If it ever feels too busy it’s a very short walk to the next lagoon which is usually mostly empty, though there are no loungers there.

As mentioned, the beach is a darker sand and coarse. We didn't need water shoes but it does get very hot. We saw a few fish in the lagoon (small ones), and we also found the water to be very warm but surprisingly deep.

The chairs are available to Aulani guests first come first served. We often found availability on the beach. All beaches, including this one, are open to the public however non-Aulani guests are not permitted to use these chairs.
