Aulani - August 2020

Hi All,

New to the DVC side of things so hope I’m posting this in the right place! Myself and my wife are looking at going to Aulani for a week in August 2020. We see that bookings for the hotel side for 2020 has just gone on sale however we were thinking of renting DVC points for the obvious cost savings.

So my questions are this for anyone who has experience in this area:
1. What are my chances of being successful in renting DVC points for the middle of August and what room type will we have most chance of getting?

We have read that obviously the studios\hotel style rooms are the most popular and you have a better chance of getting a 1 bedroom or up. However past a certain point for just 2 of us going, it’s not worth going down the DVC route and would be cheaper for a hotel room booking.

We own our own points so I can't speak to that side of it, but I can tell you that we've gone 3 times in July/August and we've never had a problem getting an ocean view studio for anywhere between 14-21 nights. Generally you're going to have the best shot at getting an ocean view. A lot of people don't wanna spend that amount of points.

I’d bet if you’re renting (especially at the 11 month mark) you can get just about anything besides the hotel room or maybe not a standard view studio. I think July through August is the “slower” of the summer months outside of holidays like 4th of July

Yea July 4th would usually be the only night that we noticed unavailable when we’d book our July/August trips at the 7 month mark.

You are super unlikely to get the on-points hotel room unit - there are 8. They are also stinky.

OV is a slam dunk renting at 11.

Everything else is in between somewhere.

Thanks for all the responses guys! An OV studio is what we were both thinking of and hoping to get so we will send an email to the DVC store, go for that and see how we get on when the 11 month mark rolls around!
