Aulani and Kauai Decisions

Woohoo... just booked airline tickets to Hawaii for next October using frequent flyer miles for our family of four plus my FIL. So excited! We'll be in Hawaii 10 nights, thinking 5 nights at Aulani and 5 nights on Kauai.

Now we'll just have to decide which 2bdrm to book at Aulani. I'm thinking a dedicated 2bdrm. That way FIL and DS11 can have the two beds in the 2nd bedroom and DD8 can sleep in the living room. I'm not sure we're willing to spend the points on OV. Will probably just try for IV. Of course we have awhile until the 7 month mark when we can book to decide.

Anyone have any advice on where to stay on Kauai? Hoping to rent a 3 bedroom house. Thinking either Kapaa or Poipu. DH wants a view of mountains, but the kids want beach access. I want easy access to restaurants so I don't have to spend my vacation cooking.

If you are military barking sands is the way to go. If not you might want to look into the Outrigger villa properties.

I'd suggest the Grand Hyatt Kauai. It is gorgeous. Pricey, but Hawaii is in general. The Outrigger Waipouli Beach Resort looks nice, we almost stayed there in 2009, but instead chose the Hyatt. The Outrigger location isn't nearly as good though. The Sheraton looks decent for the cheaper price. In general I'd suggest Poipu beach for location, though I'd like to stay on the north shore someday.

I just booked flights 2 days ago for October as well. Doing 7 nights in Maui at the Westin timeshare then 3 nights at Aulani (which we can't book yet).
