Thanks Jeanette.....now the planning can really begin :teeth:

stal ... do you yet know where at WDW you will be working? I will certainly come and say Hi if we are in the area :)

hi, no i findout when i get there... all i know i will be working in a shop or selling something (i.e. on the carts) but could be anywhere on resort property.

Ah well. Friday night has been late night opening at MK for WDW guests for the entire year it seems until the night before we fly home when it suddenly shifts to Epcot! I was really looking forward to the lazy stroll from ride to ride on our last night. :furious:

One or two left maybe, are you all going in August because of the school holidays? I know we are, 3 weeks for us too!!

I am a teacher so yes we are going because of the school hols.

If I wasn't a teacher I would love to go in Feb.

The flight prices would be halved :goodvibes and WDW would be just what the doc ordered to get rid of the cold  and the cold weather!

My son is at school and my wife is a teacher, so like you we have no choice really.

eventually kids grow up.....and then if you do what i did, you'll be able to go whenever you want...low season,....high season....or anywhere in between...

how did i manage it?.....i quit my job......probably the best thing i ever did for my health....

It's the fact that other times of the year the fly-drive prices are almost half the price, in terms of crowds we fine mid-August onwards not too bad at all.

you quoted me just before i edited my post....hmmm....
yes it's the same for us....in the summer, an economy class ticket to orlando costs about $2000......in mid-winter it costs about $600.....a big big difference.....

i know that august isn't too bad....
but this year, DD and I were also there in mid-September and it was totally amazingly empty....almost too empty....

Thanks for posting the link to the August hours.

We're also going for three weeks! Seems like everyone has the same idea - if we have to pay top dollar we may as well go for longer!!

Hopefully we'll be able to have a mini Dis meet!

Andy

since you quoted my pre-edited post, i'll add on that before i quit i was working the typical high-tech slave labor hours (90 hours/week)....
so i finally quit....it took me 9 years to quit, but what a relief when i finally did...although i probably lost decades of my life expectancy for having worked those sorts of hours under that amount of pressure..

in any case, i freelance now...ghostwriting.....not nearly as much income, but i'm no longer a basket case of tension and stress....

i'm not too sure how much you know about the programs, but im doing the international college program. It is similar to the american version of the college program where students spend a semester working at disney world and taking classes, except in the international program there are no classes and its during the unversity summer holiday and have to be returning to full time education when you get back (visa rules). On this program i have been allocated a position in merchandise but wont find out where in the world until i get there.

There are other international programs such at the cultural representative international program which lasts for 12 months and you work at your countries pavillion at epcot (which i hope to do after uni!)

we always chat with CMs whenever we can, so we have spoken with quite a few who are on the college program (the American one). They all seem to be very happy (despite the long workhours of some of them). They told us they're guaranteed 35 hours/week, but they sometimes have to work much more than that (especially during the peak summer hours).
I forgot how much they had to pay for housing - maybe it was $70/ week or thereabouts. They were housed about 6 to an apartment in an apartment complex just outside of WDW. And i can't remember the hourly pay either. Perhaps my daughter does. We calculated it, and after the housing and living costs, they probably aren't able to save very much. But they're doing it more for the experience than anything else.

from what they told us, the only class they had to take was at the beginning there is a week of learning about all things Disney, so that when guests ask you questions, you'll be able to answer.....

do you know whether you'll be living with others on the international college program, or will they mix you with the American students?

i'm sure you're going to have a FANTASTIC time!!!!

we are going for 3 weeks too, 1st - 21st August, and yes, im a teacher too...
What is it with teachers and Disney, are we just creating our own parallel world as we cant cope with the one we live in... :rotfl2: :Pinkbounc :rotfl2:
