August packing

The low temps, on average, are 73. Are lightweight jackets, long sleeves, ever needed during this month?

We are heading down next month for our fifth August trip in a row. I've never needed a long sleeve or jacket of any kind (and I'm usually always cold). Some people get cold when they head into a well air conditioned restaurant, but not me. It's a welcome relief.

I went 2 Augusts ago and plan on going this August. I pack and wear sweatshirts and my jean jacket occasionally at night in restaurants or waiting for fireworks.

I'm bringing a very light sweater with me just because I always get cold in air conditioning, no matter how hot it is outside, and since we have TS meals I know I'll need it. But I never needed one when I was younger; the cold in AC is a newer development that most people don't share

I always bring as eater for restaurants and sweats and a long sleeve sweater for the room at night. I freeze in the air conditioning! My kids also beg for my sweater in the restaurants, so now I have to pack them one too.

Another one that will be in long sleeved shirts most of the time and packing a sweatshirt for our trip in 9 days. I walk in 95 degree weather in a sweatshirt because I am cold constantly. Take something just in case. The restaurants and shops can get chilly:thumbsup2

Only reason I'd need a long sleeved shirt in August is to cut the sleeves off and use them as a headband to absorb the gallons of sweat I will produce.

We're leaving in a few days and I have no intention of packing anything at all with long sleeves. As a matter of fact, I only own 2 sleeveless shirts but I'm planning on buying more for the trip.

(Now, I'm secretly hoping that ds and I are cold one night so we'll be forced to buy cute Disney sweatshirts.) ;)

If you have a rain jacket you might want to bring that. It has been raining a good deal this summer.

Yes, even at night. The humidity makes the temp feel elevated and fluctuate less than in a higher elevation/lower humidity environment.

The only time you would need sleeves other than a rain poncho is indoors. Period.

I have never needed a sweatshirt in August, even in AC. I love AC!

We have enjoyed having rain jackets with us when it has poured rain. We don't need them so much during the normal daily fast rain shower each afternoon, but for the occasional huge storms that produce rain that seems to come down in buckets for an hour. Last August we were in MK during the storm that was so bad that part of the park lost power and Tomorrowland was evacuated due to flooding. We were glad to have rain jackets that night.

No!!! It becomes tolerable in the evening.

But my mom brought her friend from Hawaii and she thought it was cold. So, I guess some people could be chilly, I just can't imagine it!

Good to know, even at night time... So no reprieve at late night?

No. If you were on the coast, you'd get a break at night because you'd get a breeze. But Orlando is a landlocked swamp. I live in Houston- same climate zone. It won't be 100 degrees at night, but it'll be very warm, especially if you're in the parks. It'll be more tolerable walking around the boardwalk or lakes. But it'll never be cool enough for long sleeves. Even if it's windy, it'll be a hot wind. We've been 3 times in August, and it's just hot and humid 24/7!

Depends on how you are traveling.

I always take a hoodie when I fly. Makes a nice cocoon. Put on my head phones and flip up the hood. Its kind of a "do not disturb" sign. And I am cozy so I can relax/sleep.

We ALWAYS pack a sweatshirt for each person in our carryons.

The plane can be chilly.

And every once in a while we get a really chilly, wet, windy day at WDW (yes, even in August. We're teachers and only go over the summer.). We got one in 2008 as tropical storm Faye approached. It was cold enough that, after getting soaked on Kali, we were wet and miserable-- went back, changed, grabbed our sweathirts, and hopped to Epcot.

Most of the time, they spend in the closet of our resort. But having one along is a whole lot more convenient than having to puchase one.

Oh, and one more generic packing hint: we always place one outfit apiece into someone else's luggage. So I'll have one of my son's, he'll have one my his sister's, she'll have one of my husband's, and so on.

In the unlikely event that one bag gets temporarily misplaced, at least it buys you a day.
