Just wondering how anyone else is planning on spending their Aug days. are you avoid MK on Sat? Avoiding both EMH or doing 1 or the other? Where are you hoping to eat? etc We'll be there Aug 13-27

We are there july24-aug third. WE won't do early entry maybe late hours. We don't worry to much about crowd levels . We get there when the parks open and hustle in the am and coast after that till we leave around 1or 2. Then come back around 5-6 when must are eating and try to ride again and see night shows . just have a plan you'll do fine.

We are going from aug 25th to sept 3. I will pobably avoid MK on fridays based on last years experience. I expect that the 3rd will be crowded but we are leaving that day so we will just get a quick trip to one of the parks that morning. The rest of the time we will avoid the EMH morning parks and we are really looking forward to the EMH nights. Now if the hurricanes stay away I will be very happy!!!

We'll be there the 13-23. Plan on doing Early EMH for MK and late EMH for EPCOT and AK. Will try to arrive early most days, leave between 1and 2 then hop to a different park at night, or just chill out at the pool or DTD. Have fun.

When I checked my days on the UG online, it recommended MK on Sat. 6th. I thought that was odd, but I guess we will try it. Said to avoid MK on Sunday. Also has Saturday rated at an 8. Sunday is also an 8, but the rest of the week is a 7. Hoping for a slight decrease in crowds. We are probably not going to do too many early entry days. Too hard to get my kids up. We will do some of the late evenings. My kids are night owls in the summer.

Thanks for posting this thread. As I am still struggling to finalize our itinerary (Aug.23-31), it is great to hear what others are planning.

I originally thought we would do EMH at night for MK and MGM, but really wish the park hours were out. In 2003 MK closed at 7pm., almost every night we were there, which would mean EMH would only go until 10pm, which might mean more people will still be up and be there(crowded). However, when I checked the hours for 2004, MK stayed open until atleast 8:30, which would bring EMH until 11:30 (maybe less people will stay). I do not know if this was influenced at all by the hurricanes and making up for lost hours and days last August. :confused3 Right now, I am starting to think we will not do MK evening hours, am still not sure about morning EMH for any of the parks. I still have not decided if we should avoid MK on Saturday or try it early in the hopes that many are traveling etc. We also want to do Universal one day and a water park on another day, which means we probably can not stay up late the nights before those days. My dh thinks I am crazy worrying about all this. However, we usually do have great trips and I think atleast some solid planning is important for that to happen.

As far as ps, I am thinking Sci Fi (lunch), Prime Time (dinner), Ohana (dinner), Kona (breakfast), Yachtsman Steakhouse, Beaches and Cream (lunch), Coral Reef (lunch), and French Rest. for lunch (sorry I forget the name). I am also finding it difficult to plan for these, getting us at all these parks on certain days or evenings so we can go to all these restaurants. But, with the DDE card AP discount, how could I pass up eating at all these great places. Right?
:goodvibes

Good Luck with your planning and have a GREAT trip!! :flower:

Disgirl if your doing Ohanas try for an 8:30 - 9pm seating. our first night at the world we did this and had window seating. Just as dessert arrived the lights went down and wishes started, they even piped in the music. It is one of my absolute favorite Disney moments.

John

Thanks for the suggestion John. I guess I just have to see if MK closes early, like 7 while we are there. I know when we were there in 2003, it closed early most nights. Thanks again for your thoughts. This will be our first time at Ohanas and we are very excited. :cool1:

OOO I forgot about the early closings. Once the hours are posted make the reservations at Ohanas for 1 to 1.5 hrs before wishes.

We are going August 24th - 31st. In general we are avoiding all EMH days. Its not that I don't think the mornings would be worth it but with our kids, 6 & 8, getting up to be at a park before 8:00 would be a bit of a stretch for a marginal value.

We have broken the days up into 6 mornings and 6 evenings with a 2-4 hour hotel break in the middle. (It is August after all and I hear heat stroke really puts a damper on the vacation.) With park hopping they don't have to be the same parks in the morning and evening. We are also not doing any morning character breakfasts. (The thought of the kids chowing down and then going on rides just isn't pretty!) We are also on the meal plan. This time around we are not doing the water parks. Its just not our thing right now. We are also most likely not doing DTD. No offense on people that like to go there and shop but I personally don't like shopping when I am at home let alone vacation. I subscribe to the definition of shoping a friend of mine has: Shopping should be a premeditiated intent to purchase a specific item for a specific purpose or should be research to purchase an item for a specific purpose. :)

Part of our plan is to take it easy in the parks. We don't have any totally down days but we are not going commando (In any sense of the term) or doing any really late nights or early mornings, at least by our standards. I call our style of touring informed wandering. I have UG and TGM. We do plan to be at the parks at opening. So here is what we have so far.

Wed: Arrival Day. This one is the dilema. We land at 11:47 AM. The kids will have gotten up around 5:30 AM in the morning. With ME I am guessing we will be checked at the hotel no later than 2:00 PM (Barring major issues.) With the new ticket pricing it is only $4 for us to go to a park this day we we are going to head to one. It is the kids first visit to WDW so ideally we would hit the magic kingdom. The only issue is that it will be in the afternoon, peak crowds, on a EMH evening more peak crowds, and we will not be staying up to enjoy the EMH evening. Also I would like the kids first visit to MK be in the morning to see the opening ceramony and really get the whole first visit experience. So my thought is to go to EP this day. Be opportunistic and just go on things with little or no wait or what we can use FP for. Get started on our WS passports and just sort of bop around EP. After dinner take a round about way back to WL via the monorail to TC and then the resort monorail to the contemporary and the boat back to WL.

Thursday: MK morning, CP Early Lunch. MK Evening CRT Dinner See Wishes.

Friday: MGM Morning, Lunch as WCC, MGM Evening, Fantasmic. Dinner not sure, Maybe Melrose.

Saturday: EP Morning. Lunch WS. Dinner Consourse MK Evening (Hopefully Spectro Magic leave before Wishes.)

Sunday: AK Morning. Counter Lunch at AK. EP Evening. Dinner WS. Illuminations.

By now we have hit each park at least once in the morning and once in the evening (Except AK). So now we are looking to hit the highlights or ridng buzz until we break 500,000. :)

Monday: MGM Morning (Most likely ride Star tours over and over and over... I have some serious Star Wars fanatics as kids. ) Maybe EP afterwards. Afternoon: AK to see parade. Some Quick rides. Dinner at Boma and evening at AKL to check it out for next time. Maybe a quick hop to EP or early night. See Fantasmic or Illuminations if we missed it earlier.

Tuesday: MK Morning. Rest of day up to whatever the kids want to do. Unsure on Dinner. Maybe Chef Mickeys. Last Backup day for seeing evening show if missed earlier.

Wed: Departure Day. We were going to Chef Mickeys for Breakfast (We are staying at WL.) But US Air changed our flight times so that it would be a bit tight to get there and back and to the airport. It could be done but between having to get up early to be there and the hassle of packing up and such I didn't want to end the vacation with a lot of stress running around. Instead we will do Breakfast at WL and enjoy the resort for a bit before leaving the resort at 10:00AM.

We are looking to maximize the meal plan by paying for the kids meals at CRT, Melrose and the two WS meals. That will give us enough credits for 9 sitdown. In turn we will be sharing some counter meals. So with the two additional sit down meals used for lunch and the saved counter credits from sharing we should have enough counter credits to cover a few counter breakfasts. This isn't finallized yet but I have a spreadsheet put together and it looks like we will only have to cover 3 counter breakfasts and the last one at WCC. We should do well with the meal plan. FYI we also will most likely use most of our snack allotment for water in the parks and then just buy whatever we want as snacks. That way we aren't limited on some of the snacks. It will also help control the quantity of snacks eaten if I have to shell out cash each time. :) (With the exception of items on the snack list that cost more than water, then we would buy the water and use the snack credit for the item.)

So the dinning plans are:

Dinner: CRT, 2 x WS, Boma, Maybe Melrose, Concourse, Maybe CM.
Lunch: WCC and CP, the rest counter.
Breakfast: WCC on departure day, some counter some in room. (My guess is 3 in room.)

Out of pocket costs beyond dinning plan: Food for room. WCC on departure day, out of pocket snacks, kids meals at CRT, melrose and 2 WS meals and any specialty drinks.

One other note our our plan. I had considered doing the Fantasmic Dinner plan at HV and seeing if I could use the dinning plan for it. I know some people have. But we decided that we didn't want another buffet and were interested in Melrose but not the Fantasmic package. My idea here is that I don't want to be pinned down to a specific day just in case some thing happens weather wise or we need to crash that night.

I am also banking on the reduced crowds at the end of August so that we hopefully will only have to get in line 45 - 60 minutes early. That would be no more than 30 minutes longer than we would have to get in line with the Fantasmic package. The kids will have there Star Wars stuff from the gift show near Star Tours (They are already planning on spending some time there!) to help keep them occupied and we may also bring the Game Boy and a new game to help pass the time. If it doesn't work out on the first time we try to see it we have some back up days were we could go again and maybe try to get the package.

Any thoughts on this plan regarding Fantasmic would be appreciated.

iwish.... Fantasmic Dinner Package allows you to have dinner at one of three sit-down places at MGM and receive a pass to Fantasmic. You enter a side entrance and sit in a reserved area. You only need to be there 30 minutes before which many people think is worth not having to be there 1-1.5hrs early in the general seating area.

We are going Aug. 28th-Sept.3rd and I am going CRAZY with my itinerary

I have changed my mind a million times and don't know what to do when. I have looked at past hours and they seem to change every year. MK open 'til 7pm and the next year open 'till 8:30. I don't know when the Fireworks are going to be so I don't know when to book my ARs. And then I am going to have to wait until July to know what the hours will be for my last 2 days of my trip!!! How can they open the dining ARs 90 days out but not the park hours until 60days out???? I think Disney is laughing at all of us obsessive planners going crazy :rotfl2:

I understand your situation. You have it even worse because you span two months. For what it is worth we are going at the end of August and the only timing detail that I am sweating is when they run Spectro. I would really like to see that and it appears that they only do it once a week at that time. Other than that we tend to eat dinner early, around 6, so the park closing times don't affect hour dinner plans. Also Illuminations and Fantasmic run nightly. I have enough flexibility in our plan to swap nights for whatever night they decide to place Spectro on. I think it will be on Saturday but they have also run it on Sundays when doing it once a week.

Sorry, I don't know how to quote only part of the post. Anyway, this is our plan for this August....not commando but relaxed. We still have to figure out our days in which park but we plan on doing the rides/Shows that we want, rather than HAVING to do EVERYTHING, as in the past. My ds12, has been to WDW twice and has a list of his must do's and can skip.

After doing the Fantasmic dinner package in the past, we aren't going to do it this time. We've had a problem with weather in the past and canceling the show and with ds now being the 'adult' age for the meals, we just figured we would play it by ear and get to Fantasmic early and wait it out. I don't mind paying for the adult rate for my ds, if he ate enough. He's picky and not always a huge eater.

Did you go to Fantasmic at the end of August? If so how were the crowds then? If the general consensus is that the wait is no more than an hour we won't do the dinner package. Just for the reason you mentioned about weather. I also don't want to be locked in and feel that we have to go to on a specific night if we don't have to. Right now the only must make or have a financial penalty reservation is for dinner at CRT. The kids really want to do that and the weather won't affect that one. :)

DH & I are going on Aug 11th-- and I'm not sure when were coming home yet. It will be either a 7-9 day trip. This will be our first trip EVER alone anywhere. DS will be taking a fishing trip w/ another family member. SInce this will be our 6th trip in the last 3 years we've decided to take it real easy. Especially w/ the heat. I know we went September of last year and it was very, very hot. So, I can only imagine.

We actually plan on sleeping in and going to the pool or maybe a waterpark or 2 in the late mornings/early afternoons. Then at dinner time we'll go to a park for awhile and then enjoy evening EMH at where it's at. If it's a non-evening night then we may not even do a park that day. We're trying to take a really laid back approach to the trip. I know we want to try some of the other things like Cirque and horseback riding this trip.

Yes, we did Fantasmic at the end of August. We found the crowds to be manageable with very little wait on most things (10-15 mins). We feel that by properly planning to go to Fantasmic one evening, it shouldn't be a problem to wait. We had done the dinner pkg and let into the arena for Fantasmic...sat in the rain for an hour, show was delayed and then finally cancelled. Back when we did the dinner pkg, DS was considered a child and it wasn't a fixed menu. Now, he's an adult price, a fixed menu or buffet and he doesn't eat the adult amount anyway.

Hi,
We'll be at POR 8/20-8/27 w/ dining plan. My Aunt will be there thru Tues. So far..

Sat- arrival 2-4 (we're driving in). settle into room, most likely do somewhere Boardwalk for dinner. (either ESPN zone or Spoodles)

Sun- MK am. lunch at Cosmic Rays. back to room for nap/pool time. return to MK for Crystal Palace and hopefully Spectro/wishes. What is the UG that recommends *not* Sunday? I figured since alot of trips go Sun -Sat that Sun would be a good morning because alot of people aren't there yet and alot of locals would go on Sat?

Mon- AM- MGM/Epcot (haven't decided yet) counter svc lunch back to room for breaks/nap. Hoo-Dee-Doo at 5

Tues AM-Epcot/MGM Auntie leaving afternoon.

Wed-Maybe Typhoon lagoon

Thurs-Am-AK. Pizzafari lunch..nap/pool break. Not sure yet..maybe Illuminations?

Friday-MK again?

SAt-depart:(

I'm trying to be pretty open..we're travelline w/our 2 9yo dd's and 2 yo dd. Not sure how 2 yo will handle everything so we're hangin' pretty loose. We usually end up going back to MK quite a few times. I hadn't really planned on doing Fantasmic this time..again don't think 2 yo will make that.
