Although I am not starting to pack yet, I am beginning to think about what I should pack. :teeth: Our trip is August 21st - 28th, and we are planning on it being hot, hot hot! For those of you going in August (or other hot times) are you packing pants and sweatshirts? I was thinking of at least bringing one pair of pants.

What other things do you pack for this time of year that might be useful? :sunny:

We have gone in August almost every year for a while now. Usually the last week in August. I have always brought a pair of pants and a jacket and never used them. It is HOT!!!! Bring one of those handheld fans, and also the cool neck ties. They will keep your neck cool. Love them! Most important is sunscreen!! Have a great trip! :flower:

I will pack all summer clothes for my kids. Only shorts for DH - he never gets cold.

For me, there will be a sweater in the backpack every day. I can't stand air conditioning. I'll bring 2-3 pairs of capris. (We are eating at Narcoosies, so I'm bringing one nice capri outfit for us girls).

I just bought two new mister fans yesterday. We had two from disney (that I believe I paid $17.00 each). I tried the one from AK the other day - doesn't work and the other one broke long ago. They are definitely not worth the money.

I also just purchased on ebay a small backpack with built-in cooler so I can carry some water bottles and help keep them cold. We have been in June before and, while we can tolerate the heat, you do find you need to drink alot. So, I'm trying to be better prepared. And don't forget extra batteries for those!

That's as far as I've gotten. I'm trying not to wish away the summer (we arrive 8/26 for 8 nites at the BC).

Happy packing-

Anna :flower:

Hi ... we'll be at OKW 8/20-8/28
last july was our first summer trips

here's what i figure ...
several bathing suits for everybody
hoping to hit water parks a lot! (We have PAPs)
i like a bathing suit with a little skirt/short bottom for the WPs ... you seem a little less naked standing on line... but you may be skinny and young enough not to care (i'm neither :goodvibes )
we skip the watershoes coz mostly you cant wear them on the slides

2 pairs of comfy sneakers ... figuring one will get wet
1 pair of sandals/soccer slides for pool and walking around the WPs

fold up rain jackets ... we dont love ponchos ... the kind that fold down into a little pouch. buy 'em big and throw on if it rains

hats, sunglasses, sunscreen ....

yes i'll be bringing a pair jeans or something probably capri length more so than a traditional pair of jeans.

even on hot days i will sometimes wear capri length pants or light sweats ... things (like your rear) don't stick so much then (think hot sweaty thighs and plastic- :earseek: )

plan for hot :sunny: days and rainy :umbrella: afternoons

dont know if you have kids ... but i usually will bring a small towel and bathing suit for my DD to the parks everday... you never know when you'll need to jump in a fountain. also we bring an umbrella stroller to the parks to hold our "stuff" (raincoats, frozen water btls, towel) even though DD is almost 8 and wouldnt be caught dead in the thing ... ;)

one thing i want to look into is those silky surfer-type shirts ... DD has one they're very lightweight and cool, but good protection from the sun ... maybe REI has them for adults ... also those gel thing cooly things i want to look for them too.

we always bring our WDW water sprayer/fan ... paid $17.oo for it in 2003. this will be its third trip "home"

happy packing :wave2:

i always have a sweatshirt or sweater for each of us that i carry in my backpack wherever we go in Orlando. The A/C in the US in general is run at frigid settings and it's WAY too cold for us. We're not used to being indoors in the deep freeze.

I don't wear shorts.....there aren't all that many women who can get away with shorts after a certain age.....capri length pants tend to be more flattering (especially if they're cut more like trousers than like typical shorts).
so that's what i wear when it's very hot.

I have never brought pants or sweats of any kind when in Disney in the summer months. It is just too hot and humid even later in the day. Less bulky stuff to pack in our suitcases or carry around the parks the better!

Long sleeve shirt and long pants of super light weight nylon for sun protection. Sunglasses and a hat with a 4 inch brim.
I hate the feel of sunscreen! Especially on hot, humid days.
But know everyone needs sun protection.
Babysitting today for a friend going to the Dr. to have yet another Basal cell skin cancer removed.

I'm definitely planning on bringing a light sweater for me. I don't want my nice sitdown meal ruined because I'm freezing!

I've been thinking about starting a packing list, but haven't quite gotten there yet. One lesson I have learned, I will bring at least one t-shirt less per person than I think we need, because I know there will be purchases!

You won't need pants or a sweatshirt in Aug. I get cold very easily & I haven't needed them.
However, a light cover-up for over A/C places is a good idea. I carry a sarong with me for those occasions. It is perfect weight for chasing off a light chill, less bulky than a sweatshirt & can be used with dressier outfits that I wear to nice dinners.

I also think that those gel bandanas are a good idea for Aug. as well as multiple bathing suits. We spend alot of time in & out of pools/water parks in the summer & I can't stand putting on a wet suit.

Hi,

I just got back from a trip where I was hot hot hot, but I managed because I brought:

Columbia waterproof neoprene sandals
Hydration camelbak backpack
Sleeveless shirts
Lightweight shorts
Baseball cap
Sunglasses
Sunscreen
Bandana (great for wiping sweat or wetting and using to cool off)

Can someone explain the neck cooler things I have read about? I forget exactly what they are, but it sounds like the have gel in them and you freeze it?? Sorry...I could be completely wrong. :sunny: Hopefully someone can help.

Hi... Wow, seems a lot of us going to be there in middle of Aug.

We'll be at WL 8/22 - 8/27.... where's everyone else going ?

We go down every August also, and we have brought at least 1 pair of long pants for everyone, but I have to say WE HAVE NEVER USED THEM :earseek:

I don't believe we'll be taking them this year, as I agree they take up more space in the luggage. Although, all my boys including DH gets a chill sometimes, so I will bring 1 sweatshirt each. Plus we'll be at Siesta Keys the week before..gets a bit chilled on the beach at night.

I have never tried the headbands, sounds interesting though ! :wave2:

We are only 22 years old so maybe we still qualify as kids? :teeth: Well, we'll always be kids at heart! I am excited, I have seen a few other people from the DIS who are going to be at POP the same week as us. I really hope I will run into some DISers! :goodvibes If you see us, say hi!

Well if the trip doesn't get postponed due to a storm...any storm out in Gulf would force us to cancel, as we live on the coast and our jobs require us to do storm duty...

a light zip up that I tie around my waste. I freeze in the frigid restaurants, then melt in the sun!

coffee, coffee, coffee--nescafe needs to be banned from the planet.

I will buy one of those fans, if I can find one. extra sunscreen and camera batteries. and of course my passporter. oh, and ponchos. yes def. ponchos in august. and tevas.

we'll be at OKW for my 30th bday, aug 10-14. need to change my sig.
