August Guests - What are you packing?

We are only 22 years old so maybe we still qualify as kids? :teeth: Well, we'll always be kids at heart! I am excited, I have seen a few other people from the DIS who are going to be at POP the same week as us. I really hope I will run into some DISers! :goodvibes If you see us, say hi!

Well, as I could have been your babysitter, I guess that qualifies! LOL
We are only in our thirties. We went to WDW on our honeymoon when we were 21, and 23, so I guess that we were the "kids" then. :p

We just got a Home Depot about 5 minutes from our house, so I am planning on getting a few lime green mickey heads. We have six kids 11 and under, so we will be hard to miss. I am hoping to get the 50's bldg., so you probably will see us around the pools if you are out and about. Our first day in the parks is the 22nd. If you see a group of six kids wearing relatively matching t-shirts, say hey. I try to dress them similarily to keep track of them all!
:jumping1:
See you there!

We'll be there! I'm ready to start packing now (my family thinks I'm obsessed! :rotfl2: ) I'll check the forecast before we go but I don't think I'll be packing anything but shorts. When we went in June I never wore anything else as it was in the 90s every day. I'm not overly sensitive to a/c however - my mom who is was fine without a sweater. I didn't even want to wear short sleeves and stuck mostly to tanks/sleeveless shirts to try and stay cooler. I've already bought some new misting sprayers to pack and am looking into getting a camelback. Hot doesn't worry me - I'm just praying for no tropical storms/hurricanes! :umbrella:

I have said it before and i will say it again.. August trip to the world = Misty Mate purchase! LOL!! I just ordered my new one from Amazon as I foolishly left my old one in my car on one of the hottest days of the year and the seal busted! DUH!! But seriously.. the spray fan water bottle thingies work okay... but the Misty Mate is sooooo incredible... try one and you will see!

Other than that.. I just pack the usual that have been mentioned here.. and remember to bring my patience.. and know that i will not be spending the afternoons in the park.. the afternoon pool break is a necessity in the august heat.

So.. enjoy... stay cool..and remember..there are many air conditioned areas to pop into at the world when the heat gets to hot!!

kathy

DW and I will be checking in at AKL from 8/21-8/29 (deluxe savannah view), and we will be packing the misting fans (and I will check out a Mist Mate, whatever those are), lots of shorts, t-shirts, sunscreen, and insect repellant. And I will be packing a nice pair of slacks and shirt (as well as DW packing a nice dress), as we'll be definitely eating at Jiko on 8/22 (DW's 32nd birthday), and we dor have AR's for Wolfgang Puck's Dining Room (upstairs) on the 26th (though I don't know that we'll keep that one... we're also thinking about Yachtsman or Shula's). So we'll need to dress in something other than shorts (I was told when making my ressies "smart casual", whatever that is...).

And I'm sure that DW will be packing a sweater as, when it comes to hotel room AC, the more frigid, the better, as far as I'm concerned :cold: :cold:

Rachel - those cool neck bandana's have silica gel crystals inside them. You soak them in cold/ice water & then lightly wring them out a bit (so they aren't drippy). The silica crystals hold the cool water & you tie them around you're neck like a bandana & it keeps you cooler. I have done the same thing with a plain bandana & ice, but that gets drippy.
The gel ones are available in most places you get camping gear. I got ours at WalMart for about $2.00. You can order them off the net too, but they are more expensive (I saw them for about $12.00 and then you have to pay S&H!)

If you can grab them at Walmart, I suggest giving them a try. They work well for us. And for $2, if they don't, you haven't wasted much.

Thanks for the info. :goodvibes They sound like a nice thing for summer at WDW. Next time I'm at Walmart I will try to find them. Thanks again!

Hey folks-

We are headed down to WDW Aug. 28th-Sept. 3rd. POLY GVC!!!!!

We will be packing 2 Camelback Hydration packs. My DH will carry the backpack style and I will be putting a 2L bladder in my over-the-shoulder LeSport Sac purse. We usually fill one with ice water and the other with ice and Crystal Light. We love these as it keeps our hands free and we can have a drink during shows and rides. They stay very cold for about 3-4 hours and keeps my DH back nice and cold too!!

My kids love the little hand held fans and they use a wet wash cloth and the fans to keep cool. We found the spray water bottles to get too heavy to carry around. Kids carry the fans...we carry the water!

I always pack very early (3 weeks) then I take out half of everything. But the night before we leave I start throwing everything in the bags I think I might need :rotfl:

Extra Disney Dollars!! Extra batteries!! Extra swimsuit!! Extra ziploc bags!!!

Oh yeah...I always pack my kids outfits in ziploc bags!!!

Great ideas!!!! Keep 'em coming!!!

The girls and I always wear capris and a sweatshirt on the plane as it is always too cold on there for us. Then if we need them we have them, but so far we have never needed them except for the plane ride to and from WDW.

We're going the end of Aug-early Sept (8/30-9/5) and this will be our first trip w/ DD (16 months). I am planning to bring one pair of capri length pants each for us and probably a pair of quick-dry cargo pants for DH. He loves the pants and talks about them constantly. I will also bring DD a light jacket and sweatshirt for the AC. We plan on taking LOTS of breaks and know we won't see everything.

Be sure to take more photos than you think you need, you will always want to remember this special time!

HI LadyLuc,

Here is a link to some Neck Collers and explains them for you too.

I've been buying for two years (planning that long too :cool1:)
Lately my favorites are :
I have little animal fans for the kids

a little umbrella for AK and the boneyard (heard on the Dis there's no shade)

Brita fill-n-gos (2)

fanny packs with water bottle holders for the kids

An older version Pal Mickey (on his way!!)

Beach towels for DS (Buzz) and DD (Aurora)

Birnbaum's By kids for kids

The sunscreen, bug spray, and aloe companies have written me thank you letters for my purchases

Lots of film

and two wet suits for the kids that block 99% of UV rays (on clearance at CWD)

those are my favorite things right now.

We have a digital camera and are borrowing an extra memory card. We are picture junkies! Good advice.

I'll add to the take a sweater/nylon jacket thread. The most uncomfortable I have ever been in my entire life was at MGM. We got caught in a brief downpour, then the sun came out but I was still damp. Went to see Muppet3-D and it was about 32 degrees in there!!!I was absalutely frozen to the bone, so cold I could not enjoy the show. Afterwards I ran over to the shops on the main Blvd. and bought for 29.99 a nylon Pooh anarak. Very lightweight and foldable. That jacket SAVED my trip!!!! I am just not used to the frigid a/c. The jacket makes a return visit when we hit WL on July 11th! :Pinkbounc

DH put the suitcases out on the table in the game room yesterday. I know we still have almost 2 months left. :rolleyes1

So far I have thrown in ponchos, toiletry items, socks, extra SD card, Disney gifty things for my friends daughter, and our reservation and flight info. Organizing this will come later. At least I know I have it started.
I kinda know what clothes I am taking. Will be checking this week to see if I NEED anything new. :earsgirl:
We will be at POP, Aug 22-27.

took out our luggage yesterday !!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc
We`ll be starting to pack this week. mostly shorts, tanks, capris, and one dressier outfit. (bought ponchos), and misty fans also!!

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for the ideas to everyone... we will be there 8/26-9/1 like some of you ... I have lately been stressing about over packing as well as the heat issue. I am thinking we will need 2+ outfits per day due to the sweating/sunscreen/wetness issues. I'm also intending on bringing the clothes that will keep us the coolest -- sleeveless shirts and definitely shorts. I too get cold easily though so something light w/sleeves will be coming. I remember having to buy a hoodie w/an embroidered mickey on it in epcot in '94 after being rained on. It was like $30 and I thought that was soooooo expensive then!!! :teeth: well, anyway, I still have and wear that thing, maybe I will pack it!!

As for taking up space in the suitcase, I like the idea another poster had for wearing the most bulky items you've got (ie, longer pants, capris etc) on the plane. I think I will follow that one.

By the way, what about shoes? I have heard that sneakers w/coolmax socks are the best, but I am thinking they will be HOT and what about when they get wet? Any thougths out there?

Thanks to the OP for this question, keep the suggestions coming... And see you all in aug!

These are great tips! We will be in WDW 8/8-8/14 at ASMo cant wait!! :grouphug:

I thought of a couple other things we are taking (I dont think were listed yet)
1. Body Glide (for chaffing)
2. Moleskin (for blisters)

Good things to have just in case, cause these two things can spoil a day! :sad2:

Wow glad i found this everyone has some great Ideas. If anyone is thinking about gettting a camelback go for it , we have a cloudwalker (book bag with the bladder) and it is awesome we took it on vacation to DW in the middle of august of 2002, not only did it carry our water around for all of us but because we put ice in it whoever wore it had a cool back ( hubby wondered why I kept volunterring for backpack duty), it also helped keep the juice boxes cold that we put in the backpack compartment. There was plenty of room in it for Diapers and wipes plus all the extra stuff you need in the parks (ponchos, sunscreen, Passporter etc.) . I can't wait till we get to go again I have already gone through all of our clothes so I know what we are packing. Just feel like there is one more thing I will forget :confused3 Hope to see you all !!!!!!!
