Thanks for your reply. Hope it doesn't take too long to approve and refund. although I will not go overdrawn on credit card, I would hate to have to pay interest or pay for flights I have cancelled.

If you are cancelling due to an error with their system (double payment) then your card company will probably refund any interest. If you cancel because you don't want the flights anymore, then you'd be rightly charged interest (if at all).

As long as the situation is cleared up before your card billing date after next, you likely wouldn't be charged any interest.

Thanks for your response. I have had written confirmation today that my refund has been approved and will be credited within 5 to 10 working days. We had 24 hours to cancel our tickets with full refund. We were informed by American Airlines that because we were within the 24 hour period we could cancel. We were concerned that we could run into problems, despite being told we would get a refund as different people we spoke to at American Airlines were giving us conflicting information. At least all has ended well for us. Thanks for all your advice.

We still don't seem to have been charged for the flights that we cancelled. Glad it worked out for you xx
