August Cruising?

My DW and I are considering spending our 10th annivesary on the August 17th 4 day cruise next year (we have not yet been on DCL). We are thinking about a category 6 room and likely going to do thiswithout our DSs (5 and 2 at that time).

On of my DWs biggest concerns is the weather. We are not big fans of very hot weather and so she is thinking that a few days in Martha's Vineyard or Vermont might be more enjoyable (because of the heat factor).

I am thinking that our 10th anniversary will be more memorable if spent with Mickey (she also thinks its a great idea).

If anyone has any experiences/thoughts that can assist us in making the decision, it would be appreciated, for example:

Is the weather that bad?
Is category 6 good for a couple?
Where should I go to find the best deals on DCL?
Are there any specific things we should know about DCL to make our anniversary that much more special?

we have cruised (Celebrity-Horizon-Bermuda) the week of labor day 2000 and barfed all the way home due to ruff seas

had 6134 (twin room to 6634) and switched to 6652 when we read about 'obstructed view' --- beware -- not thrilled about being so far AFT (will get all the rockin') but we're stuck now

We also have done the rough seas of late August . Our first cruise was our honeymoon cruise to Bermuda. Celebrity's old (now retired) Meridian. great cruise, but saw more than a couple of blue faces on our return trip to New York.

I have cruised many times in Aug. Will be on th Magic on 8/24. Although it is hurricane season, I have been blessed with beautiful weather on my Aug. cruises.

We just got back from the 8-11 Disney Wonder cruise.
To answer your questions...

1) It was hot and humid. This is normal for August. You can spend time in or out of air conditioning as needed.

2) It rained and we had a storm follow us the entire trip. The boat had a lot of motion due to increased winds. I thought the storms helped cool things down. We didn't really miss anything important. Some activities were moved indoors as needed. The rain at Castaway Cay did cause some events to cease for a while but we still had plenty of time to play.

3) Disney recognizes special occasions with a special cake during the evening dinner.

4) Being from San Antonio, I would probably do a fall/spring cruise next time because we never really got away from the heat and I got a bit tired of the hot weather. Wish they would do a cruise to Alaska!!

Our first DCL cruise was August '98 (it was supposed to be June but the ship was delayed and we needed to rebook for a cruise prior to start of school).

We were "blessed" with Hurricane Bonnie. No problem with rough seas as Capt. Tom kept us a minimum of 450 miles away from her eye. We did depart Nassau early making some excursions not possible and were not able to go to Castaway Cay - we had an extra sea day.

The Cat 6 was great - with or without kids would be my opinion. The main draw being the verandah. We've always been forward and starboard, plan to be again. I've noticed that the further back and lower you are in the ship the more movement you will notice.

Thank you for all of the opinions expressed so far. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as I need amunition to convince my DW
