August car rental rates

Thanks, I'll just keep checking every day! Our dates are Aug. 5-12.

I got $260 for a standard size from alamo for 10 days (8/24 - 9/3). I booked back in February using Costco discount codes. I am now looking for a good rate for my son. Rates for compacts are in the $500 range before coupon codes and discounts. I prefer Alamo since the debit card policy is more relaxed. But the rates right now are out of this world! :sad2:

I wanted to thank yall for saving me close to $800. I priced it out thru several other places and they didn't have any "deals".

Have there been any new codes released? Everything I've seen ends at the end of June, so still waiting...

I just booked the Budget minivan deal described in this thread. I've used it before (November 2010). While the vehicles are older, they were fine. I love my National Rental Car Co., but not enough to pay twice (or 3 times) the price. I need a minivan for my August trip, so this was a fair price.

Booked 5/13

I have a rental from Dollar for 8/18 - 8/28 for a mid size car. I first used some codes from BJ's etc. Then tried NO CODE and up popped a city special at the airport . Mid size $119.54 per wwek / Base rate $176.27 + all fees and taxes = $253.51

What does Budget actually have for mini vans at MCO? They say DODGE GRAND CARAVAN or equal. What have you guys rented from them?

Thanks,

Rich

BTW I got that for $650.00 for 15 days in August.

My DD used them in November 2011 and she got a Sienna. It had a lot of miles and no bells or whistles, but the price was right. Since you have to go to the counter, watch the hardsell. They really tried pushing the insurance on her and even after telling them no, they still added it to the contract, which she caught before signing and made them redo.

My bid of $14 per day on priceline for a full size car for 8/23 - 8/29 was accepted last night. Total cost of $142.68 including all taxes and fees.

On Saturday (6/11) evening, I bid $11/day for a full size for 8/27-9/5 and was rejected. I then bid $11/day for a standard and got Hertz for a total of $180.97 for the 9 days. (I had bid $10 for both of those sizes the day before and was rejected.)

I had had a reservation with Dollar fora Midsize for $227.98 before the rates when up a lot in the last couple of weeks, so I'm happy with a "standard" for $47 less. I really liked using National for the past several years, but I couldn't get a rate anywhere close to reasonable this time.

And Southwest had some rate movements yesterday and today, so I was able to get a much better, slightly earlier flight down yesterday and a slightly later flight home today and ended up with a net credit of $10 per person. :cool1:

Don't forget about Hotwire or Priceline if your plans are set in stone. I looked for my late Aug dates and a compact was $16 per day on Hotwire. Priceline would be cheaper still. Both are nonrefundable.

I used Hotwire.com and got a Full Size for 8 days from Hertz for $182.14 (includes taxes and fees) for 8/25 - 9/1

Thanks so much for the hotwire news. I just booked a full size for $169 incl tax for 08/20 to 08/27 with Alamo. Totally blew away my previous ressie with them that I had for almost $300! :cool1::cool1:

I did try to bid separately with price line but they wouldn't accept my bid of $11 per day. My hotwire rate was $14.95 per day.

I am reserving a car for three days Friday through Sunday the last weekend of August. We got a rate of $115 through Alamo but I am getting it at the car care center during the middle of our vacation. We used the Costco discount code. If anyone has any more ideas of a better code to use, let me know.

Also, when you pick a time to pick up the rental car, does it matter if you pick it up an hour or two later than you reserved it for, as long as you pick it up that day? I just know that we need to return it by the same hour for the weekend rental price so want to make sure we give ourselves enough time to return it on Monday.

Check over at Mousesavers for more codes: http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html . You can pick up your car a couple hours on either way of the reservation. Just make sure to return it by that same time on your return day.

Do you still have to go to the counter with fastbreak?

I thought that eliminated the need to go to the counter.

Sorry, don't know. This was the only time we've ever rented from Budget before. While I know the rules with National and Alamo, I'm clueless with Budget.
