August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

Glad to hear the strike for this saturday is now not on, unless they do an 'unofficial' one :scared1:

For the return journey, I wouldn't worry about booking a hotel room now on a just in case basis, I think the airline are obliged to look after you if they can't fly you out as planned, and this would include them finding you a hotel and providing meals etc.

I now have most of the clothes laid out in piles and am slowly packing or putting them back depending on how the case is looking :rotfl:

Bon voyage to everyone!

Thanks for a bit of reassurance, I think I'll pass on shelling out money for a hotel now. I think if I did it this early I also wouldn't get reimbursed from travel guard for the room.

Oh the butterfies in my tummy are going crazy!!!! In a taxi on the way to Dublin airport and flying to Barcelona at 6.30.

It's cruise time!!

See you all at the Goofy pool on Saturday.

Siobhan.

just an FYI regarding the flights home - in europe airlines are NOT as obliging as the states i.e. think of all the people stranded with the volcano thing- euro airlines did NOTHING to help passengers, nor did the airports -

please don't go into it thinking that they will take care of you - - - it's just not the same as home...

I have been reading the thread for the cruise after ours and all the folks from England point out that the larger air carriers do take care of people bur the budget carriers do not. Regardless we triple checked our insurance and it does cover us in a strike situation for hotel and meals and such.

Armyferret, who are you flying with? I really wouldn't worry, there are EU directives in place which state the airlines legal obligations to passengers in the event of delay/cancellation ( I know as DH has recently sued a UK airline on this basis for failure to provide adequately during a delay). the only carrier I would really worry about is Ryanair, they really don't seem to care about their customers. Easyjet are a budget carrier but they do seem to honour their obligations.

I am just relieved the strike is off for this weekend, phew! If I am stranded in Barcelona after the cruise so much the better :rotfl:

It's quiet on here, I guess most folks are in transit right now. I am almost packed. I have a couple of last minute bits and pieces to pick up tomorrow, I know I will be stressed tomorrow, I always am the day before :rotfl:

Bon voyage to all :goodvibes

Scrambling to get flight out fixed before tomorrow. They (Travelocity) dropped the ball on the first part of our flight and now we don't have seats. Air Canada is currently trying to help as I type. Wish us luck and we hope to see Mickey's boat Saturday.

we're actually flying air france - i had friends get stuck by them in april - so we are just not taking chances - booked a hotel room for an extra 3 days in bcn, just in case :).

we looked at ryan air, and easyjet, but honestly, by the time we factored in the cost of baggage, and not being able to fly into bcn (ryan air doesn't do munich to bcn - they fly in about 100km away) - the cost was the same as air france, and we each get a 50lb bag.....

still packing and doing stuff - - - sleep is NOT happening tonight :)

We checked with Aer Lingus when we flew out on Wednesday and were told firstly not to panic - no strike confirmed and if it happens the Air line has to take care of you. The situation with the volcanic ash was different...it was an act of God and unavoidable.

Have had two days in Barcelona - fantastic city but realised that doing too much sightseeing with a 5-almost 6 yr old is not easy! She was whining about being tired after the first hour....really was not up to much walking in the heat and it has made me rethink some of the DIY port excursions we were planning. I think more time relaxing on the ship may be a better option. oh well.......bring it on -this time tomorrow we'll be on the Magic!:dance3::yay:

We are in Barcelona! Bit of a nightmare at the hotel - king bed - for 3 of us! No trundle so three in a bed! Still on the Magic tomorrow so who cares!!

Just to update anyone who might check the board and particularly those in the FEE group, we have been delayed in Manchester. I have spoken to Disney and as the ship does not actually set sail until 9.30pm as long as the flight arrives in time for us to get to the ship we should be ok. I have left a message for my TA to start thinking of a plan B to get us out to Malta by Monday if this plane doesn't go! If anyone bumps into xsjackson - Susan and Ginny - could they let them know that this has happened to us please as they kindly have a fish extender for us. Fingers crossed this flight goes in time, otherwise we hope to see you in Malta. Hope everyone else has arrived without any trouble :goodvibes

:grouphug:desperately need help and it's been suggested i appeal to the good natured folks on here just in case anyone logs online whilst onboard during your cruise

we got off the magic in barcelona on 7th and my lovely autistic son left his precious ipod touch in his room (2520) needless to say he is inconsolable and disneys lost and found are not being the most helpful at the moment

we know he left it on the desk in the room so we think it should simply be a matter of the room steward handing it in and it being returned to us but so far disneys lost and found are saying it's not been handed in

anyone who would be willing to ask at guest services for us i would be forever grateful, the ipod is a silver basic model 8gb and was without a case and it was left aug 7th on a desk in stateroom 2520

if you are reading this and can help by asking for me pls pls do and i will be forever grateful thanks marie :grouphug:

So sorry I never got to log on and see this or I would have tried Guest Services for you. The only complaint I would have about the DCL is their Internet access - really bad and really expensive. We bought a bundle of 100 mins for 55 dollars. 22 dollars gone the first day waiting for one page to load, gave up after that. Never had time to go looking for an Internet Cafe when we were in any of the ports.

I really hope someone manages to track it down for you. When we were getting our luggage back in Barcelona yesterday I noticed the table for Lost and Found. The Crew member looking after it was helping a lady look through a pile of i-pods, cameras and cell phones. Keep after DCL...this is the the type of service they promise.

Mazz1 sorry to hear that and sorry that I did not see this whilst on board, keep trying them.

Well, I hope everyone has arrived home safely, what a great cruise! We did finally get on board after our long delay in Manchester, I think we got on the ship sometime after 5pm. Fortunately this wasn't a problem for DCL although we were so stressed, I think it took me til about the third day to unwind.

So we missed the meet at the Goofy pool and so never got to meet most of you :sad1: Or maybe we did and never realised! We did meet xsjackson and family who were right across the hall from us so that was nice. Thanks to all the FEE participants for the very lovely and thoughtful gifts which we received, it was such great fun :goodvibes

Hope everyone else had a really great time too, we booked on board for Alaska next summer the 23rd August :) don't suppose anyone else did the same?

CruisingSarah:
Sorry we didn't get to meet but so glad to see that you made the ship. Yours was the last post I read on the boards before shutting down my computer on sailaway day and because the internet was so slow on the ship, I never came back as I just had to use up all my time to check email. I wondered all cruise long if you made it in Barcelona or joined in Malta.
jeff

We booked the Alaskan cruise too!...but for July 12th- can't wait! It's not going to be as easy getting to Vancouver as it was to Barcelona (we were only flying from Dublin) but hoping all that beautiful scenery will be worth it.
