August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

Mine weren't assigned and I am on Britsh airways with 7 people 4 kids!

Really? They said families traveling with children will have their seats pre-assigned at no charge at least 3 days prior to departure. Maybe they just haven't done it yet. My long haul flight was done yesterday and when I woke up today I saw that my short flight was assigned. They have me sitting in front of my family...hmmm not such a bad thing I guess ;)

This is what I found on British Airways about it...

Families travelling with young children

We know how important it is for you to be seated together when you are travelling with young children. That is why, if you haven't already chosen seats, we will make sure that seat numbers are allocated to everybody within your party (i.e. same booking reference) approximately 3 days prior to departure.

When check in opens 24 hours before departure on ba.com you can view and change your seats.

I just looked up the ages and they pre-assign for free from children ages 2-11, so that does apply to you for most of the kids, so that's odd. Though, when are you leaving?

Aug 3rd. Maybe I am looking in the wrong place. Where are your seat assignments?

We are flying Philly to Barcelona too. What kind of problems did you read about? Flight delays? Hoping that goes well. We are flying one day early.

Here is what I found on another post:

We went on the Med Cruise in May and it was very frustrating to get grounded due to operational issues with US Air. We got stuck in Philadelphia, when our scheduled 6:35 PM flight was not actually canceled until 5AM the next morning. The story is long and frustrating and overall we sat on the plane just about 100 ft from the gate for a total of 3.5 hours, 1.5 the first time and 2 hours the second part. US Air was not able to get us to Barcelona in time for our cruise, even though it was Wed, and the cruise was Sat. We wound up purchasing a last minute flight out of JFK on Air Europa, renting a car, and driving to JFK to catch the flight. I would not use US Air again and next time I will pick an airport with more options to get another flight.

Yes, we will need the luck! I don't want to miss our cruise.

Good luck on the first leg of your trip. How fun! We will be in route to PHL on Tuesday.

See you all at the Chocolate factory and at the pool!

Have a safe trip!

Thanks everyone for the reassuring words! Well now I have a couple of magnets courtesy of the very generous Jordak :woohoo: And I am on the case with getting a fish extender! Laundry is in progress and list too, I will get the bags out tomorrow and start to lay out piles of stuff.

I spent a few days in London last week where I met friends, my friend had a spanish friend visiting, she warned that it is really HOT in Barcelona at the moment, so be prepared.

All good wishes to everyone heading off soon :goodvibes

After you put in your reservation number and last name, go to the "My Bookings" section. There you will see your flights confirmations and the seats should be right there. Have a safe flight...See you soon :)

Yes, my friend in Barcelona said the same thing today...very hot! Though here at home we have been dealing with the heat and humidity. So I feel like I am use to the torture already :rotfl: Though the way I look at it...we will be in SPAIN, ITALY, etc... so who cares :rotfl: Bring it on!

Good luck with all the final preparations everyone and I wish everyone safe travels this week. See you at the Goofy Pool Saturday at 2:30!

Amen to that! We've been as high as 95 degrees and humid here on and off for weeks, so "bring it on"! We're ready!!!! :cool1:

BTW.....Just got a linen tunic at Eddie Bauer today that I am SO excited about for Tunis, and maybe other port visits: Very light weight, 3/4 length sleeves, loose fit, kind of a bohemian :hippie: type style, but provides good coverage for the "respectful dress" expectation while still being lightweight and cool. SO excited......had SEVERAL other things purchased that I wasn't yet satisfied with: scarf, cover up, etc. Yay! And it was on Clearance, so double Yay!

Tomorrow we focus on our packing....at least get everything set out for me to pack this week. :laundy: Getting there.....

See you all soon! Happy & Safe travels to you all!

Hello everyone :)
I have asked DCL on 2 occasions how many formal and semi formal nights are on our sailing, both times I was told 2 semi formal and 1 formal. When I look at past navigators it only shows 1 semi formal. What are you all planning on?

We're almost there!!:yay:

I know I heard the same thing. I have planned for two, but the second semi formal outfits aren't that dressy and are mixed and matched from other outfits so we are safe in both cases. If that makes any sense...I am in vacation mode. Three more days...:woohoo:

Yeah! We are almost there. Just packing the last items. Juicing up the Ninentdo DSes, eye patches, blankets, sandwiches, medicines. Then, we load up the cars.

Thanks for the information on the formal and semi formal nights. I have enough for 2 semi formal and 1 formal. I have some mix and match stuff that will work out for that extra semi-formal. If not, I will rewash my semi-formal outfit and wear that one.

I agree - I thought there was only one semi formal too - but will bring an extra outfit just in case and can wear to Palo or another night if there is only one.

Happy packing everyone! Have a good day! So excited - but don't like the packing part.

I am just way too excited to just do the last minute stuff. :yay:I have 20 items on my list and it's freaking me out which freaks out my family. I think that I need to walk my dog so that I am a little calmer.

Me too! I was really good at crossing things off my list on Friday. Today I am just wandering around wondering what to do first. Not good. But it is still early :)

:rotfl: I am the same way! Every time I think of the trip I get butterflies in my belly. I feel like a little kid! I think I have everything I need. Just need to pack up the last minute items and I am done. We are actually away this weekend, so anxious to get back and zipper up those suitcases! Hopefully my husband doesn't have to wear his black shoes tomorrow...they are getting packed! I can't wait to get all the suitcases out of my room and down by the front door!

We're packed did the formal and semi-formals, shoes, sunscreen, seabands, snacks, loading of the nds, e-book, packing the 1 $ bills for roomservice, the hamper for laundry, over the door shoe hangers for the small items, three girls in one room so lots of those, the suck-up extra wall pins for the lanyards and bikini's etc etc. Even managed to get part of the FEE presents done... Three suitcases of 38 lbs each are standing in our hall and we each have a carry-on....

Yesterday we asked our TA about an upgrade to a verandah, did not get a reply yet, but perhaps we are changing our room, if so I will let you know.

I'm also getting pretty much butterflies in my belly when I think that it is only 5 nights till we leve for Barca and only 6 nights before we are sailing

Just a thought - ds handed me her Princess beach towel to pack and I said we don't need any but then I wondered...we only had one beach stop on our last cruise which was Castaway Cay where towels were handed out and were plentiful. What happens if you want to go to the beach in any of the ports we're visiting. Can you take towels from the ship? I could really do without 4 beach towels in my suitcase, but could also do without buying more souvenier towels when we decide to go to a beach.

Anyone remember from previous cruises?

They have always provided towels at the pier or by the gangway for all ports. Having said that, I have never been on this particular itinerary, only the Bahamian/Caribbean cruises, but I would assume it would be the same. You can take as many as you need, but are asked to PLEASE bring them back. They take up an awful lot of luggage space otherwise! :) Good luck!

Disney even provided us with towels when we went on our own beach excursions. I brought 6 towels there and brought them back wet. This is great for everyone! Otherwise, you can use them as a blanket on the plane. Some planes charge for blankets.
