August 7th, 2010 Mediterranean Cruise

Recieved our cruise docs too, so much fun! I prefer a pool meeting, last cruise we met at the 7 aft deck and it was pretty hot out there, and in the afternoon in August it sure will be hot!!

Hmmm, I wonder when I will get mine?

That could be a perfect place for our DD's to meet. :thumbsup2

Hi everyone, we would like to meet up too, the pool is fine by us as DS 5 will be keen to swim too:) I am not sure what time we will board, we are flying in that morning and the flight lands around 11.30. I guess we should be on by 1.30-2.00.

We are yet to book our Barcelona hotel for our 2 nights post cruise, we are having trouble finding one close to the beaches or Olympic port area which has an outdoor pool and rooms with a balcony which sleep 3. Anyone have any ideas? After not having a balcony for the cruise I really want one for the two nights.

Getting close now, I have started a list but no packing yet :)

My mom, sister and niece left for Italy Thursday. Just got an email report from my Dad that stated my Mom lost her luggage! UGH! My worst fear for our trip and it happened to my Mom - UGH! I have a feeling she did not measure her carry-on luggage (even after I told her a million times to do so) and I believe they took it from her when she boarded the plane, according to my Dad. I have measured, re-measured, and measured my carry-on luggage over and over again.

We were planning on taking 1 carry on per person and check 1 bag for the family. I am now wondering if I am better off checking my luggage instead of stressing about whether or not they are going to allow me to take my carry-on luggage on the flight.

So, hear is my question...has anyone had to give up their carry-on luggage that was within measurement requirements when flying? I don't travel that often so was curious if anyone has had that happen to them.

I did a lot of research on that International Carry-on Dimensions 75% of the suitcase are no higher than 19" tall, 9" D, and 14"L. However, on US airways carry-on, the dimension is Up to 45 in/115 cm (14 x 9 x 22 in or 36 x 23 x 56 cm).

The weight really depends on the airline. I recommend calling ahead of time. For example, US Airways is up to 40 lbs. Iberian is up to 22 lbs.

From what many have told me that the carry-on for international flights are smaller than the US domestic travel.

We did have a luggage taken away from us on an Coast to Coast flight. It was over 22" tall. Too big for the overhead. Unfortunately, we did not lose it. I hope your family's suitcase finds them soon. Bummer!

I just found out their suitcase finally arrived tonight...two days later...so that is good news! :) I am sure my Mom would have been happy to have an excuse to go shopping for new stuff though :rotfl:

I had contacted British Airways and the weight for carry on is 50lbs and measurements are 22x18x10. I actually had gone out and bought a couple new carryons because all of mine had been over 22 inches tall. I with have DH measure as well just to make sure we are good to go. I am so not fond of flying so I will be happy when the traveling experience is over and I am enjoying a cocktail poolside :woohoo:

If you are flying on a plane, don't forget to order a kids meal. I just ordered them for our children.

On our 2nd Disney cruise - 10 day Christmas cruise our 7 suitcases did not make it because we were delayed in Seattle for 16 hours due to no eletricity. Because it was the holidays we had gone overboard with 2 suitcases each. And not one bag made it to Orlando. :scared1: It was very interesting.:headache: Instead of arriving a day ahead of time we arrived at 2am the day of our cruise. Some of our luggage came in early the day we left and what didn't arrived at Key West and meet the ship. We were flying and cruising with Disney so they guarenteed our bags to make the ship.

It ended up being the best Christmas ever and it all worked out.

I have had bags taken away at the gate and they return them to you as you get off the plane - NOT at the baggage claim. I have had a lot of too heavy bags and carry ons;) that I have had to repack at the counter.

Now Im learning to be a better packer. I am going to try and do this trip plus 3 days in Barcelona and 3 days in Virginia to pick up my sister and kids with a 26in suitcase. My husband says I can't do it!:confused3 I dont know why. I just did 4 nights in DC/NYC in a carry on. BUT I LIKE MY SHOES!

I would also prefer the pool. My daughter just asked me today if I could set up a meeting for her and your DD at the port, I told her I think she'll live if she waits a bit and meets her at the pool like everyone else. She's so excited :yay:

Just dropping by to say Hi! We are on the cruise before yours and thought about booking Aug 7th as a B2B with the great cat 12 rate that was on offer - then it disappeared! Today the rate showed up again so we booked so we are now joining you on this cruise too.

I am sure your FE is now closed and I have a lot on with making stuff for the previous cruise but would love to know if there are any Dis Meets planned. We are:

Mel (me) 31
Darren (DH) 37
Isabelle (DD1) 5
Olivia (DD2) 2 and a half

Looking forward to sailing with you all!

Welcome Aboard :cheer2: Yes, we have a Dis Meet planned for the first day. I think we are still working out the details with time and exact place. But from the looks of it...it will probably be near the pool!

Hi All!

We are new to the forum (although I've probably spent hours reading a lot of the back messages from everyone). We'll also be on the Aug 7 sailing and are beside ourselves with excitement! It will be me (Camille), DH (Eric) DS (Caspian 4 1/2), Mother (Claire), and Brother (Logan 14). We'd love to be involved in the meet, especially for Caspian and Logan to meet other kids their age that they can hang out with at the clubs.

30 days until we leave for Barcelona and 33 days until we board!

Welcome! Mel and Frenchyc! We hope to meet you and your family, too at the pool.

I am completing all the medical forms this week including getting the prior approval for traveling on the plane with my DD's special dietary drink which the airlines and airports do not carry.

We are also finalizing our own private tours for the Italian ports. I heard that the hydrofoil makes one really sick if one is not accustomed to riding this type of transportation.

We also bought new swimsuits, skirts, and dresses for the DD's. They were on sale 40% off.

I have to remember to pack the formal clothing and semi-formal clothing.

Just got back from a long weekend away and ran to the mail box as soon as I got home...and there they were...our cruise docs!! :cool1: This trip is actually starting to feel real! It is also 100 degrees at home today and our a/c is broken. I NEED A VACATION!

The news this morning said that it was going to start feeling like summer here in the Pacific Northwest. 70s today and 80s the rest of the week. I might have to take my 3 pairs of shorts out of the cruise pile.:rolleyes1

Off to pick up nother sister's kids (this one lives about an hour away instead of a coast away). Its hard to be the oldest, longest married, and my kids are yound adults. My local neices are 7 and 8 and their mom (my baby sister) is going to have a C-section tomorrow for baby #3. I am keeping the kids for a couple of days to make it easier for her.

I hope everyone has a great day!:cloud9:
