August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

I am little nervous leaving my DS(2) at the nursery. Has anyone gone to the open house of the Flounder's Reef Nursery? What do you do there? What is Family Time? Any input will be appreciated.

Wow, this is like Christmas. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Thanks,
Lisa

Anyone have any ideas at what time we will be picked up from the Grand Californian and taken to the port on Saturday? The time wasn't listed in any of my cruise docs.

Also, I was reading a live trip report from the current sailing (23rd - 30th) and it looks like the bridge tours are back on again? Or was that the galley tours that were off? I hope the times are different because it looks like we'll be on excursions during the bridge tours...:sad2:

Is anyone else taking something to Guest Services to be signed? I'm struggling with what to bring.....t-shirt? Pillow case? Calendar? Beach towel? I'm looking at a Pooh/Piglet beach towel on eBay that I thought would make a great gift for our Au Pair that we could drop off to be signed. For the kids, I'm toying with pillow cases. Too many decisions to make.....my DH is shaking his head and laughing at me.... ;)

Lisa, Hi! My name is Courtney and I'm also bringing my DD (2). We are only leaving our DD in Flounders for Palo night. My DD will not stay unless we really need to. But I am interested also in the open house Flounders time too.

Eve, We are bringing to guest services 2 pillow cases with a picture of the Magic on them and they say Cruising on the Magic on the Mexican Riviera August 6, 2005 (I made them this weekend with iron on transfers). And I purchased 2 matts from Micheals for them to sign also. I'm stopping on the way to the hotel on Friday at See's candy store and buying candy for the signings and for the kids club staff.

I can't wait for next weekend. This week is finals for the summer semester then I have a week off for the cruise then I start school two days after I get back :p . And in the mist of all this I am planning Ryan's birthday for Sunday, eventhough he won't turn 7 until the Sunday we are on the ship.

I hope everyone is staying cool where ever you are. My family is roasting here in California. We live in the desert near Palm Springs. Have a great week everyone and see you next Saturday. :bounce:

Thanks Courtney! What a GREAT idea! Now I just have to get these done before we leave for ABQ this Thursday....:hyper:

Vickie, I know what you mean. We're doing the same - flying to LAX on Saturday morning! Not really my idea of good planning. And picking up our luggage and getting on the DCL shuttle to the port. Our TA told us that there will be shuttles leaving at least every half hour, if we missed one. I would've preferred flying in on Friday instead. Oh well...at least it's not a long flight.
Cathy, hope all goes well for your DH.

Right. Packing for a cruise vacation is definitely not the same. Haven't started yet.
Just too much to do yet and no time.
This is so exciting....can't wait to meet you all.

Where can I find those seabands?
Not at Target. I feel like I've been running around alot lately and keep forgetting things on my list. :hyper:

Thanks, Jinny

I don't have a little child aymore, but I visited Flounders (just curious) and it looks like such a wonderful place! They have a "viewing window" so that parents can go peek at their child, without the child seeing the parents. It was clean, and the girls were very friendly!

No idea on times for leaving the hotel, but they'll definitely know at check-in. I understand how hard it is, not having all the answers. I like to have everything planned to the second, so this is tough for you all, I know!

Eve, I was going to suggest not using the beach towel. I just think the terry would be harder for the "characters" to write on and still have it be legible....

It was the Galley Tours that were cancelled, they were worried about germs...the bridge tours, which they take you on the catwalk around the front of the bridge, and you can look down and see all the instruments...very cool. We worked it into our schedule...something seems to stick in my head that they had it on a sea day??? I guess I'd have to go read my own trip report! They will not have anymore bridge tours after dry-dock, the catwalk will be gone....so do it now, if you possibly can!
Sorry...just looked back...it was on Mazatlan day...the bridge tour.

Jinny - I bought a very slightly used set on eBay for $3.25 + $2.50 for postage. I hope I get them in time for the cruise....

Jinny - What time do you arrive at LAX? We get in at 10:15.
Vickie

Vickie, we'll arrive at LAX about 9:30 am. I just asked DH. We're on American. Which airline are you flying on?
Maybe we'll see you there?

Eve, How about white pillowcases with color sharpie markers?

Hi Courtney

What night are you going to Palo? We are going on Wednesday for dinner. I have also booked the nursery for my DS during our second seating for dinner. My DS is at that stage where he won't sit thru the whole dinner. I will be looking forward to meeting you and your family.

Hey Lisa - we'll see you at Palo's too - we have res for 8:30. :cool1:

We have Palo reservation Wed. also. However we have them at 6pm. My family likes to eat early.

Lisa, We took our DD last year on RCCL last year after she turned 1 and she did great at dinner service, so hopefully she will do the same this time. It's a wonder what crackers will do.

We are also using the different colored sharpies for our pillowcases. I have heard through not to use brown because it runs.

Well have to run it's time for swimming lessons.

Have a great day!!! :sunny:

Jinny - Long's and Walgreens have the SeaBands. They're usually located near the motion sickness meds.

Vickie - My friend Sonia was able to find a city tour in Mazatlan once they were on the pier. They chose a guide who had a very nice air-conditioned van. A family who was in line with us for DL's birthday said that they didn't pre-book any excursions and shopped/walked around; they did take a water taxi to Medano Beach on Cabo and rented jet-skis. Their DD16 didn't even try The Stack and watched the movie everyday! Brynée still hasn't decided if she wants to try the jet-skis.

Brynée is going to have her "I was there" DL 50th t-shirt autographed while on-board. I trust that it will be "safe" and, thanks Courtney for the signing gift idea! We are also planning to have massages at Krystal Resort after Brynée's dolphin encounter - $35 for an hour-long massage! DISer Moley wrote an excellent review of the spa. I am waiting to receive a ressie confirmation with Krystal. We will ride with Randi on Mazatlan and will just see what's up when we reach Cabo.

DDTraci works at Long's Drugstore so Brynée and I have been going in at least once a week to pick up things we'll be needing for the cruise - the discount sure helps! I keep forgetting to stop by the cleaners to get bags to cover our dresses...last year they really helped to keep the wrinkles out.
Here's a great packing list: www.cruisecrazies.com/packing_list.php
I've been referring to it as I throw things into a suitcase and hang-up clothing that we'll need!

We have 6:30 PM Dinner reservation at Palo, so we will be running into each other. :chat: We'll probably also run into you who have 8 and 8:30 PM reservation. :chat: This is going to fun. :jumping1:

Palo Question: Can I order an extra Chocolate Souffle to take back for my kids? My kids are chocoholic.:jumping2::jumping2:

:confused:This is the first time that I heard about the brown sharpie marker. I have heard that black sharpie will fade and that the pillowcases should be laundry first before signing.

Lisa :earsgirl:

You may certainly order an extra chocolate souffle to take to the room!!

Remember to let your server know at the BEGINNING of your Palo meal that you will be wanting the souffles....either yours after your meal, or one to take with you. They bake each one as they are ordered, so if you wait until dessert time, you'll have a bit of a wait (okay, MORE than a bit!) for your souffle.

I picked up a photo mat at Michael's today to leave at guest services...it's actually for a team photo with 2 cutouts...one for the team and the other for your child in uniform. The mat area is 11x14 and hopefully has enough room for lots of autographs. Now I'm trying to decide if DD would prefer a t-shirt or pillow case???? Since I want to surprise her I can't exactly ask. :rolleyes1 Just have to remember to pack the sharpies.

Looks like the plan for a few DL days after the cruise is off...didn't win the lottery yet. :sad1: Maybe we can go down for Christmas since Rebeca has been bugging me for years to see DL decorated...she loves that commercial where Santa makes it snow with his snowglobe! :earsgirl:

I printed off the Best Tips from another thread...good ideas there. Now I just have to start packing! Hope to have room to take some scrapbook work since I never have time at home, although I doubt I'll really have time to get to any of it.
