August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Hi everyone, just checking in. My knee is doing very well pain wise, but still weak feeling. I'm down to 1 crutch but just need to keep gradually increasing activity. When I do too much I get dizzy so need to make sure I keep it gradual. I'm still cooking Thanksgiving dinner (with the help of the family) because I really wanted to see our friends from Utah so I didn't even let DH tell them about the surgery. I knew they would cancel if he did. We debated on catering it but in the end everyone wanted home made so everyone has agreed to pitch in and help wherever needed. It may be an interesting meal! I did order pies though, I just knew we couldn't do them.
In case I don't make it back here I hope everyone has a great holiday.
Vickie

Vickie, I am glad you are doing better. Your friends should feel so good to know that you really wanted to see them so much that you didn't mention the surgery.

Stacey, Thanks for the information on the Disneyland Hotel. I am thinking this trip will just be a little taste of what DL is like. We will have to plan another trip out there to see it and to see more of California. I really want to see San Diego and drive up the Pacific Coast highway and see San Francisco. I think I will need a two week trip sometime!

Barb, It sounds strange to think about being able to go to the pool while cooking the turkey. Is it outdoors? I guess it is warm enough in Virginia. It is supposed to be 61 degrees in CT tomorrow (Thanksgiving) so I can see it.

On the news they are talking about the crowded airports and trains, I am glad I am not going anywhere.

I am going to Jazzercise now (I took today off) so I better get going.

Cathy

Cathy, the resort has an indoor and an outdoor pool. DD says she watns to go in the outdoor pool, I say the indoor one. If the weather is anything like it was last weekend it won't be warm enough for that. I haven't checked the weather down there, it's supposed to be around 58 here tomorrow.

Happy Turkey Day everyone.

I really should be in bed, but Stacey is keeping me up. She forgets that I'm in a different time zone ::yes:: . Gotta blame someone.
Did anyone notice that the tag fairies are back? I know, it's sad that I notice these thing.

Happy Turkey Day!!!

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!

I've noticed the Tag Fairies are back, but they haven't noticed me yet :charac2:
Vickie

Hi, Hey they have changed our forum and added more color! I had tried to get in when it was down for a few days so I was wondering what they were doing.

I don't know what a tag fairy is, I see boxes checked that say Close Current Tag and Close all Tags? Do we have new emoticons too?

I just finished putting up my Christmas decorations, everything except the tree itself which we do next weekend. I need more decorations, I don't really have that much compared to some of my friends who go all out. One of our friends hosts an open house and every room is full of decorations. They have the whole village scene in their dining room and things everywhere.

Cathy

Cathy, tag fairies are the ones that put the color messages under your user name. No one knows who they are or where and when they will strike. You have to watch what you say or it will become your 'tag'. That's how I got all of mine, they are direct quotes from what I said.

I'm doing much better. No more crutches, still limping, much less pain. I went to the doctor yesterday and he said everything is looking good and I'm supposed to "gently" ride the exercise bike now, with the seat raised as high as I can reach so I'll try that today. Still swollen when I walk very much though but much better!
Vickie

Thanks Jilljill, I must not say anything interesting huh? They haven't tagged me yet. I was wondering why mine says Guest when I am registered...

Glad you are doing better Vickie. I know it takes a while to work back slowly. How did your Thanksgiving go with the guests who found out about your surgery?

Cathy

Cathy, Thanksgiving was really nice, even though I did all of the cooking. It's easier to do than to tell people how to! It kind of backfired on me not telling them about the surgery before though, I guess they really thought it was no big deal and wanted to go to San Francisco on friday since I did so well on Thanksgiving. I was really in a lot of pain Thanksgiving night from spending too much time on my feet but I hobbled around SF on crutches on friday anyway. I really should have told them before they came so maybe they wouldn't have planned so much, but I thought if I did they would cancel and since we only see them about once a year we were looking foreward to our visit.
Vickie

Oh, that would be tiring Vickie. As long as you didn't injure it more. I have tried crutches when someone else had them and I don't think I could use them. I'll just get a wheelchair if I need to (I say that now of course, probably wouldn't want to).

I am thinking of starting my Christmas cards tonight. I have to create my list of people over again since our computer had a virus this year and we had to wipe it out.

Cathy

My son wanted to get a wheelchair for me and I told him no! I felt that would be going overboard!
I mailed my Christmas cards today (cards we had made on the Wonder in August). Probably the earliest I've ever mailed them but I figured I better do as much as I can before I have to go back to work.
Vickie

 Happy Sunday everyone. Found us on page 2 :crazy2: .

Vickie, I was thinking about getting cards made on the cruise to send out next year. How did they turn out? We've only sent out cards with DD's picture on them, not the whole family.
I guess I better get working on my cards today. Have a good day everyone.

I love the cards we got on our cruise. They really came out cute. If I knew how to scan and insert a picture I would to show you. I'm really glad we got them. Before we also just had cards with pictures of the kids because I hate having my picture taken but these are so cute! I just hope I have one left over to save for my photo album.
Vickie

Thanks for the info Vickie. You could always get a color copy made to have for your photo album.

I thought about trying to make a color copy with my printer/copier and photo paper to see how it comes out. I only ordered 25 cards and I knew it would be close but if I could get a good quality copy I could even send some of them out, I know there are always a couple I forget and I end up sending a few more later.
Gotta go, we're off to San Francisco to do some Christmas shopping. And see how my knee holds up, its feeling pretty good and I only have one more week till I go back to work.
Vickie

Vickie, got an airport question for you. It seems that you don't live too far away from San Francisco. We are going to visit friends that live in Oakdale and we need advice on which airport to fly out of in that area. He has suggested San Fran, Oakland, San Jose or Sacramento. Do you have any suggestions for us? We are clueless in this area. We had thought about driving back down to LA to fly home, but then I thought it would be much easier to fly out from that area.
Thanks for your input.

Oakdale is east of us, so as far as the Bay Area airports (SF, Oak or San Jose) Oakland would be the best choice. Probably at least a 90 minute drive from Oakland, depending on time of day. Sacramento is north of Oakdale but I think it would be close to the same amount of driving time from the airport, maybe less because I think Sacramento traffic is not quite as bad as ours. Depending on time of day coming in to SF would probably add another 30 minutes to your drive and San Jose would probably add about 45 minutes (it's further south). We live about 10 minutes from Oakland airport and about 20 minutes from San Francisco and about 40 from San Jose, so when we fly we will fly out of whichever is cheapest! Its usually Oakland that is the cheapest for us.
