August 6, 2005 Mexican Riviera..Who's In?

Thanks for bumping us up Cathy. How was your Aunt's b'day party this weekend? I'm sure you all had a great time.
Very good friend's of mine are on the DVC Member cruise right now. They called me from their stateroom yesterday, as they were waiting for room service, and called today from Key West. I really want to be there with them, but we aren't DVC so that's out. They had brunch at Palo this morning and had to be rolled off the ship at Key West since they ate too much. so I am enjoying their trip thru phone calls.

Have a great week everyone that's still here. :wave2:

Still here ~ Our internet has been down at home for over a week. <angry icon>. Got our CC CD also - is it just music? I haven't opened it yet. Got frames from Hobby Lobby for all the pictures we bought while on board - they look NICE! :flower:

Kazu - I would LOVE to go to Japan someday. Now that we are DVC, we probably actually WON'T make it to Tokyo DL. Surprisingly, Tokyo DL is not owned by Disney and is not included in DVC. Neither is Hong Kong Disneyland. I have dreams of going to DL in Paris, though. We've banked our 2005 points for next March and I want to look into a Holland America cruise to Alaska through DVC - we have enough points for dh and I as well as his parents.

Glad to see this thread is still going.....hope to be around more when my internet is back up at home...

Eve, I just read on the DVC Member cruise thread that they announced the next DVC member sailing; 10/22/06.

Bumping us up, I miss this thread but I guess everyone is busy. I am on a thread for my Princess cruise but there are only a few people so far...

Cathy

What I miss most about this thread is that we're not planning and anxiously awaiting our cruise anymore! I really wish we still were!
Hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. I had family over for dinner on Sunday and planned the whole thing to celebrate our cruise. I made enchiladas and rice and beans and fresh salsa and chips. And of course in honor of Mazatlan I bought Pacifico Beer and made margaritas and we shared our pictures. It was fun. I would rather have been on the sip with someone serving me though!
Vickie

Vickie that was a great idea and sounded like so much fun. Did they enjoy seeing all the Mazatlan cat pictures? I didn't realize how many pictures Alexa took of the cats :cat:

I finally figured out how to download my pics onto my computer, now I have to figure out what to do with them next. I also took 12 rolls of film to be developed  :scared1: yesterday.

That did sound like a cool party Vickie. I am not at all creative like that, but Steve would be.

Here is a photo of my two younger sisters from the party on Saturday. Shelley (left) is 7 yrs younger and Donna is 2 yrs younger than I:

I only printed out 1 picture of the cats! :cat: Sara took just as many pictures of the cats as Alexa did, I'm sure :paw: :paw: :paw: I chose the picture of Sara petting the cat and decided that was the only one to print!

Nice picture Cathy!

Boy - I must have missed something. What cats? :confused3

We have internet at home again! :jumping1: I called and really got mean with those internet folks yesterday - it's been nearly 2 weeks since our internet worked! It still took them until almost 4 pm to get over here and, of course, I was out of the house picking up the kids from school and running my errands. :sad2: Luckily Seth ran home to meet the guy.

I just got home from Super Suppers. Anyone heard of it? I think it's nationwide. We went and spent an hour there assembling 6 meals which go in the freezer and are very simple to cook - meatloaf, pot roast, breaded tilapia, enchiladas, etc. I got hooked on it last month when I tried it with a friend for the first time. It's soooo easy and relatively inexpensive (about $3 per serving - much less expensive than eating out!) and no chopping/prep/cleanup. The next best thing to being on the cruise again? ;)

Cathy - your party sounded really nice. It makes me wish my family lived a little closer.

Eve, when we took the tour in Mazatlan and went up to one of the points, which overlooked the harbor, there were several local cats roaming outside the restaurant. Alexa and Sara were more interested in the cats than overlooking the city and area sights. They each took many, many pictures of the cats.

I have never heard of Super Suppers, that sounds like a great idea. Much better than the frozen meals.

Eve I had not heard about Super Suppers so of course when I read your post I immediately did a search because it sounded great to me. Of course there aren't any in California! Maybe I should look into a franchise!!!!
Vickie

No Super Suppers in Connecticut either! :sad1: :sad1:

They are in a lot of states though. We have something similar near me in a small business, I just assumed it would be expensive, but maybe I'll look into it. I wanted to give my friend some meals when she had rotator cuff shoulder surgery - she lives to far away too drive a casserole over.

I assumed (rightly so) that I didn't know about the cats since we didn't get off the ship in Mazatlan. I thought maybe they were a well know thing there or something.

Cathy

I was just thinking I will have to use that freezing icon soon, some of our trees are starting to turn!! :scared:

The school district is "asking" us not to use the internet for personal business even during our "lunch." So, I've gotten quite behind in reading all the posts. I'm taking a couple hours off today because I'm off to Fresno to meet up with a friend from college to attend the Eagles concert :Pinkbounc .

Vickie and Cathy - Your parties sure sounded like fun! Family, friends and great food sounds good to me! We did host the Asian Club potluck over Labor Day weekend and there was an assortment of "ethnic" foods to choose from - ranged from fried rice, sweet/sour chicken, sushi to tortillas and watermelon! It was fun but kind of tiring trying to supervise a dozen kids! They are a great bunch of kids and they collected over $900 at the high school for Katrina Relief/ARC. I think it did open their eyes to being more compassionate and giving and to also understand how fortunate they are. They were impressed that some of their peers were placing $20 bills into the collection containers.

Barb - For some reason I thought you were DVC; you have traveled to such wonderful places that I guess I thought you had timeshares too. Our Castaway Cay CD finally arrived yesterday so now I know what everyone was talking about. One card is for "Bryn." Actually, that was the original choice for Brynee but then we knew too many guys by that name.

Now, instead of spending loads of time online reading about cruising, Jack and I went to our first Mah Jongg class last night! It was really fun and we learned the basics of the tile rummy-like game. I think it just looks more intimidating than it really is. We have another 4 weeks of classes and we hope to make use of the set that we own.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Jenny, we do own a timeshare just not DVC. We own with Fairfiled because we liked the fact they are on the points basis and we 'own' deeded property at 2 of their resorts.

We were at Alexa's school today helping load up a truckload of donations for the media teacher to deliver to LA. They are still accepting donations until tomorrow afternoon, but the truck is ¾ of the way full and the front lobby was still full of stuff when we left. We did learn they are having a semi-trailer dropped off in the parking lot sometime next week to make another delivery the following week. It was amazing to see the amount and variety of things donated. They even had lots of medical equipment, both new and used, that was donated.

I've been on vacation from work and just went back yesterday (I always take the beginning of school off) and I just wanted to share a wonderful story about one of our surgeons. Dr. Godfrey (who is also the chief of our department) went to medical school in New Orleans and did his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He was vacationing in Hawaii when he heard about Hurricane Katrina. He immediately got on a plane for New Orleans and went to help at Charity Hospital, which was in terrible shape, he had horror stories about what was going on there when he arrived. He stayed several days helping as much as he could then returned home and brought a newly homeless family with him who are now staying in his home with his family. Makes me really proud of my work "family" just had to share.
Vickie

Vickie - That doctor sounds like a wonderful guy. Today was hard between the hurricane coverage and the 9/11 coverage as well.

I didn't know what the CD talk was about either but I just got mine too! I love Track 1 (the ship's horn).

I got the CD last year after we cruised, this year I got a DCL magnet. It says its for the car but I put it on my fridge.
Vickie

Alright - I finally got to listen to the CD. It's got cute music on it - my kids liked it too. :flower:

LOL about the cats. I thought that there was some sort of touristy Mazatlan cats that I had missed getting off the ship.:rotfl:

Vickie - you should definitely think of starting a franchise (if you like to cook, that is). The last Super Suppers I went to was PACKED with people. The neat thing about the program is that you can box up the dinners in any way you like - some people split up the meals into different containers so it lasts twice as long for a smaller family. I have the meat loaf in the oven right now and Rhys keeps asking me what smells so good. :cool1:

Hope everyone had a great weekend ~

Cathy you are very correct about today being hard. I was just flipping thru the channels a little bit ago and they were reshowing coverage when the 2nd plane hit the tower. It was hard seeing it live the first time and it's still hard today. One of my friend's had an FDNY friend that was killed during the rescues.
Be safe everyone.
