August 25, 2012 Magic in NYC!!!!

Hello, All

Just had to move our JUL20 8 NIGHT, that's been booked since opening day to this one. Thankfully, I managed to get all our same excursion and PALO times.

We are coming from Canada and travelling with me is DH, DS 17 and DD 16 and it's our 6th DCL cruise. Looking forward to catching up on the thread news and also participating in the Fish Extender if names are still being taken.

Now, that things are settled I need to book our hotel and airfare. Looks like we might be flying in/out of Newark Airport. Can anyone give me the lowdown on how to get to/from Manhatten from Newark Airport? We will be flying in a few days before and flying home the day we disembark.

Hey Wendy,

I think we did Alaska together...remember your name from FE. How are you? From Newark you can take the train to NYC but I think it's going to be hard to do it with all your luggage. I would either take a car service or a taxi from the airport to NYC. Sometimes the NYC hotels may have shuttles (not certain of this).

:welcome: aboard! Regarding FE's, there's a group on Facebook, but someone else will need to tell you how to find them.

We also don't know yet how to get to the Port, our options are driving, Bus, and Train. My DH wanted to drive, but I am nervous about the parking filling up and also the traffic, he doesn't do well in traffic so I think even though we will need to carry all our luggage on the train, it might be our best option. But still not sure.

My DD has been enjoying texting with you DS. They will have to set up a meeting time when we get on the ship.

DH wigging out about the parking filling up, too! That was yet another point on his "why we shouldn't drive into Manhattan" list.

Your DD/my DS seem to have much in common. Our little actors! Now, if we can only stop them from spending the cruise in the arcade....hmmmm.

P.S. You can take New Jersey Transit into mid-town Manhattan. Check out their website:

There is trip planner tool that can help you figure out your options. I know there is a train station at the airport, but you might have to switch trains.

As Mindy notes, there is the luggage issue (we will be dealing with that as well!).

I gave DD a budget of how much she can spend on the arcade, we will see if that helps :rolleyes1. Maybe they will have some improv games or acting things in the Edge to get our thespians out of the arcade :rotfl:

Is there anyone here that hasn't been on the Facebook page since the beginning...?

Fish Extenders are still able to be noted.

Shirts can still be ordered.

Shirt prices may differ if you are ordering them now. Unknown until I hear if anyone else needs them.

Can you post info here for non-facebook users, please?

Send me your email address and I will make it so you have access to the spreadsheet off Google Docs.

If you want shirts then tell me how many and I will get you the price.

What is it about a dancing banana that amuses me?

All right, so I'm not the only one who is amused by dancing bananas . Thanks for the support.

Frankly I never got this one :dance3:. What is that on their heads? It kind of looks like a french maids hat, so is that supposed to be a can can line?

Anyway, happy Friday! This weekend marks 75 days! Good luck to the first time cruisers, looks to still be some decent Palo times left, although it sounds likes the cabanas are all booked up.

School ends here on Monday, with a half day! Why bother! (yeah, I know, by state law, blah, blah, blah). Then the busy summer begins. We have some wisdom teeth coming out (DS), then day camp, overnight camp, theater camp, basketball camp, hope to fit some pool time in there, and then finally, CRUISE! I've started the packing lists in earnest, so my intention is to be so organized Friday, August 24 that all I have to do it throw a couple of things into the suitcase. OK, that's my fantasy, in reality, on August 24 I will look like this :scared:.

I've never really made a packing list (do you suppose that is why I always overpack?) I just pack the day before...make sure all the laundry is done and just go to it.

Leaving in a week on our 2 night cruise....haven't really thought about that but we really only need Palo and casual clothes.

I would be so lost without a packing list. Even with one I forgot to pack socks for a 5 day vacation for my DD when she was little.:rotfl:

Hi everyone,
We're suddenly seriously considering booking this cruise (moving a booking we already have for 2013). I've never come into this so late in the game before so I'm starting to move backwards through this board to explore, but I wanted to ask if there are things I should take note of that would make a difference in whether we book at this late date. In particular, I notice that people are nervous about the parking lots at the port filling up (we would be driving to NYC and parking at the port), and if we get on at this late date are we going to get a bus to Disney from Port Canaveral that leaves so late we will feel like our day there is cut really short? Anything else we should definitely know about this cruise?? Getting excited about the prospect, but trying to remain calm and do my research before I jump to a decision!:cool1:
Thanks!!

Welcome! I hope you join us on this cruise! I'm not sure about the parking at the port. As of this morning there was availability as early as 6:30AM for the MK bus. There was also tons of Palo brunch availability on all sea days.

I don't think parking will be an issue...if you can't park at the pier, there are other lots right around the area. we are going to drive and park at the pier...:goodvibes:goodvibes

I would imagine if they have alot of people who want early buses to WDW they will accomodate somehow...

There are just some people like my family-:lmao: who don't get up super early...we are on the 8:15am bus...

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:getting psyched!!!!

Thanks! Every one of these positive replies gets me one step closer...I'm almost there. I just have to get over the fact that DD would miss the first 3 days of fifth grade. And I might hold out for a bit to see if a military discount comes out...
