August 24th 2012 Cruise to the Bahamas!!!!

Just hit single digits until we leave for BLT (beginning of our vacation).

Lots to do... Pack... Kenny Chesney Concert (WHOOP!)... organize...

Happy Friday! 2 weeks till the cruise!

Has anyone ever had an issue travelling at the time we're going? I'm hoping for no thunderstorms and for clear sunny days!!

At sea... it's a crap-shoot. I'm hoping for clear weather, but I wouldn't be surprised by some localized systems.

I've sailed at all different times of the year... worst by far was early March. We were assailed by HIGH winds the entire trip... at one point the TV's read that we were in 26' seas...

At this time of year, we need to be concerned with tropical systems since it is about the peak of hurricane season. Last year we flew down to WDW right as Hurricane Irene was coming up the coast and headed for NYC the next day.

My hope is since that was exactly a year before to the day of our cruise, that it is unlikely to have another one right around that date.

Don't worry, Kelsey, we have sailed through two hurricanes with DCL. They will alternate routes if it becomes too choppy, or switch around days - the worst that can happen is NO Castaway Cay.
Last year we sailed through Hurricane Irene and had the dining room mostly to ourselves ;). Many other cruisers had lost their lunch on the way to dinner. :rotfl2: We already had our sea legs and were not affected at all. :rotfl2:

Just don't worry, they REALLY know what they are doing! :thumbsup2

We had the same experience sailing in March on the Mexican Riviera. The waves were huge and the weather was FREEZING when we left Cabo to head north to LA!! We were late getting back to port because of the head winds and waves. DH turned green from the motion and went to bed. I too went to bed but slept like a rock. Our stateroom creaked and groaned all night long... that was a bit unsettling. Very titanic-esque and we were on deck 2 along way from the lifeboats. LOL:rotfl2: Oh well, you are on vacation who cares! :beach:

The great thing about Disney is that there are always a million things to do inside if it's raining. From animation classes to movies to the spa, there are always a plethora of things to keep you busy.

Okay awesome haha I just REALLY hope to tan on this cruise haha!

There is always a chance of stormy weather this time of year near the Bahamas. Last Time we cruised, I think it was 2008. there was a hurricane
that hit Florida and Port Canaveral was closed!!. So the ship had to dock at Ft Lauderdale and Disney put everyone on a bus and drove up the coast.

But these are all pretty extreme. and the CAptains are experts at steering around storms when possible. As said previously if the winds and seas are too high, they may miss stopping at Castaway. But believe me they always try to make all ports, if they feel it is safe.:beach:

But be positive .We are going to have a great Cruise:cool1:

hey dizneeat, just wanted to say happy vacation, how exciting that you are off tomorrow, can't wait to meet you onboard the ship. have you put your cat in the pet hotel yet?
have fun xx

I have been missing from the conversation almost from the start, sorry! We went to D.C. for my hubby's new job and found out he won't be able to go on the cruise with us. Sad as that is, my sister has volunteered to take his place. Didn't have to ask her twice! It is her first Disney cruise, my second. My parents are also going with us and the best surprise--my in-laws (Tikihula on Disboards) are going as well! They surprised me last week by spilling the secret! They won't be joining us at Disneyworld beforehand, but we are happy to have them onboard.

I am hoping to meet a few of you at the 3pm gathering. I have 3 boys ages 12, 10, and 7, so hopefully they will be making friends with your kids!

Friendly warning: my MIL and I are a ferocious team at the Mickey Mania Trivia game!! Whoo-hoo!

April from Washington state (moving to Africa after the cruise)

April, the DIS folks know all about the secret we tried to keep from you. I don't think your boys will have any trouble making friends. Note to DISers - do not challenge the 11-year-old to a game of chess - you will lose.
Anyway, we are very excited to be joining April and her family on our 6th Disney cruise, and can't wait for the Mickey Mania games. Last time we won the gold medal! :cheer2:

Good Morning!!
WOW this thread got really quite over the weekend I guess everyone was busy packing LOL!!
I am almost finished with our FE gifts !!!
My sister ,Tracy, who is cruising with us got in from NY on Friday so its like our vacation has kinda started. We were at DTD on Saturday , I worked in the AM and we hung out in the evening. Sharkey and Boned from Jake and the Neverland Pirates were there doing CD signings at the WOD and concerts on the stage in front of the WOD. They were really nice guys!! You needed a wrist band to get a photo with them and the wait would be to long for Angelina so I just brought her close to where they were . Sharkey stopped what he was doing and came over to give her a pirate ARRRGGG. Totally cool surprise !!

Could today be the day?

For all of us who got a GT rate... today might be our day! Maybe our room assignments will happen today. Fingers crossed! :hyper
