August 22 2010 - WONDER

WOW! I should have booked this cruise too. Might have to try to fit it in. We were on the 3 night Wonder 8/19-8/23 to celebrate my bday on the 22nd.
So far next two cruise plans are DVC Members Only (when they announce the new dates) and the DIS Podcast Cruise Dec. 2010.

In the event that I can't join you all make sure you have a WONDERful day on the 22nd!!! :goodvibes

Thank you. Too bad you won't be joining us.

Have fun on your cruises.

Thanks for the info re the jet skis, Dawn! I guess we'll have to try them out then...more money to save! And thanks for letting me know about the tier info too.

I noticed that the Wonder is going to Alaska in 2011; boy, that looks good too. So many Disney cruises to choose from, not enough money to pay for them all!

One thing about the jet skiing on CC that I read on the DIS boards is to wear swimming goggles to keep the sea spray out of your eyes.

Wow, this week flew by.....on Saturday I am going with the Girl Scouts to the West Point Military Academy. Its Scout day. We get a tour of the facility and tickets to see the Army football team play Ball State.

Its the football game I'm most interested in......plus being in a stadium surrounded by men in uniform ;)

Oh, that's a good tip re the swimming goggles; I'll definitely do that.

Sounds like a great weekend ahead for you, Sea-and-Ski! I can't believe how fast this month is passing by! But we've been busy every weekend so I guess that's probably why. This weekend, we're going to a wedding; my best friend's son who's diapers I once changed! I can't believe that he's old enough to get married! Next weekend, we're going to see a Canadian comedian named Russell Peters. He lives in LA now but he was born in our city and he's coming back to do a fundraiser for our local hospital. He's hilarious so I can't wait to see him.

You both seem to keep pretty busy on the weekends!

I wore my sunglasses on the jet skis and it was o.k. for me. I am not big into wearing goggles, but I can see how they would help when the water splashes right into your face.

We also both wore our wet shoes. Made it not so slippery while bumping, bouncing and a bit of flying in the air.

I am going to try and stay away from the Alaska cruise. I know I would spend a fortune on those excursions. I would want to do everyone! The only turn off for me is the cool weather. If I am on a cruise, especially in the summer, I want the warm weather. I don't want to have to wear a sweater of jacket.

Have a great weekend.

wow - what a glorious day here in NJ today. The West Point trip was a lot of fun. We had three girls as tour guides. It was really interesting to talk to three women who are basically training to become professional soldiers. The girls looked like any other college student except they were dressed in army fatigues.

The football game was a lot of fun. Army won. Enthusiastic crowd with all the Army Cadettes in the stadium. We were on the opposte side from them.

Only negative was we were in the direct sun for over three hours. Hello sunburn.

Re. Alaska cruises.....we have no interest in seeing Alaska on a cruise ship. As skiers we're in the mountains all winter long. We love to snorkel so we would want to cruise to the tropics.

But I'm glad DCL is going to Alaska as so many on the DIS want to go. I'm sure it would be a lot of fun but also a lot of $$$$ plus the cost of all the excursions :scared:

Sounds like the girls had a wonderful time. Hope the sunburn wasn't too bad.

I agree with you about Alaska. I am glad Disney is switching it up a bit, so everyone that does want to experience different places can.

Well, it looks like another beautiful day. I am so happy this weekend turned out to be so beautiful. We didn't do much but we are enjoying the windows open and the sun shining in.

Today my oldest daughter is coming to take my youngest clothes shopping, because no matter what clothes I pick out, they are "horrible". My oldest daughter works in the fashion industry and buys clothes for the clothing company she works for, for the following seasons depending upon her research and trying to figure out what the "in" style is going to be. I think my youngest dd can't disagree today, but somehow I am sure she will.

I am getting ready to go to a bridal shower for my cousin. It is by the beach. I am happy she has a beautiful day for it.

Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Speak to you all soon

Dawn

What a beautiful weekend! I never want this weather to end. I am going to miss the warm weather and I am dreading having to put the heat on and wearing heavy clothes and coats.

Have a great first day of autumn! (I secretly wish I was saying SPRING!)

Dawn

Ahhh I wish we had good weather! It's horrible here at the moment - freezing cold :(

BUT I am looking forward to Christmas!! And when next summer rolls around, the cruise is here!!

Are you doing the 1st or 2nd seating? We did 1st last year, but we're doing 2nd next year

Hi, Sorry the weather there is not so good. Give me a month or less, and we will be complaining here in New York also. I have a feeling it is going to be a very cold winter for us.

We are doing the first seating. We did the second seating this past summer, and found we were getting out too late to enjoy anything afterwards. We also found ourselves having to skip dessert, so we could make it to the fun stuff.

We had always done the early seating when the kids were very young, and found it to be difficult having to leave the pool and ports so early to make it to dinner. I found it to be almost the same on second seating, because you still have to get to the first show seating. I would rather eat earlier, see the show and catch the adult entertainment at night.

I will see how it works out this time for us.

Dawn

Sorry to hear about yucky weather. We've been blessed with good weather lately. IMHO, early fall is the best time of year in New England. The humidity is gone, nice temps usually in the 60's and 70's and not too much rain.

It was good to hear an experienced opinion on the dinner times. We have 1st seating too and I have been going back and forth with it. I am leaning towards early, because the kids (especially the boys) are old enough to enjoy the night time entertainment. This way they can come to a show if they want, or they can go to their clubs after dinner.
Any other thoughts on early vs. late seating?

I've also been back and forth - we've chosen the 2nd seating time this year as I hope it'll encourage us to do some things after dinner.

Last year, despite not doing much in the day, we were so tired by the time the show rolled around  the dark theatre made us feel sleepy and we were in bed quite early. After Palo we skipped the show altogether!

We also never got to try some of the great snacks on the Wonder as we were full from breakfast or lunch, and dinner was coming soon - so eating later might give us room to try a few more things (Weight Watcher thinking about those treats!)

Let me help you decide.... you probably won't be getting out of the second seating until 10:00-10:15 p.m.

Dawn

There are plusses and minuses to both seatings.

We've always done second seating. We're port people and we'd rather skip the early seating of the show and stay out later at the port.

Also, the best time to go in the Goofy pool is right around 6pm when most of the families with small children are at dinner. It is absolutely delightful to sit around a practically empty Goofy pool watching a show on the big screen.

Again, you have to give up seeing the show to do this.

But there are negatives to eating so late.....its a rush to get to the pirate party and you're absolutely stuffed when its time to go dancing. And forget wanting to eat at the pirate party buffet. I honestly don't understand why DCL even bothers with this - what a waste of food.

And when my kids were little they would always fall asleep at the table during dinner. The CMs are used to this and would bring out an extra chair and a table cloth so the kids could lie down. (and I've seen a few adults nodding off during dinner as well after a day in places in Grand Cayman/Cozumel).

If you are doing late dinner with small children it helps tremendously to grab a snack from deck 9 around 5:30pm. Then have a second dinner at 8:15pm.

So for us......we prefer the late dinner.

Just booked today!!!! We are soooooo excited. DH and I decided to surprise our family as a Christmas gift and book the 7 night (3 night land/ 4 night sea) package. This will be my 3rd time on the cruise and DH's 2nd. We went on the cruise for our honeymoon in July 2008. A lot has been happening in our families with losing loved ones and some downfalls so we thought what better way to get away for a little while and have a great time than a Disney cruise. We will be in 8530. It will be me, DH, my parents and his mother. We are possibly asking his sister if she would like to come as well. Now I just need to figure out a cute way to present this on Christmas day to surprise them. Anyone have any ideas I would really appreciate it. Can't wait for AUGUST!!!!

Welcome to Dream426!:yay:

So, I live in a small, coastal town in Mass. which juts out and looks toward Boston. Anyway, in the past 2 weeks I have seen 3 cruise ships go by. Not sure exactly where they are headed, but it is making me long for our cruise to come. :cloud9:

Hi everyone. I am so excited for this trip. As I mentioned before DH and I planned a surprise trip for our parents. We are going to give it to them as a Christmas gift. I got the Disney gift boxes and all the Disney gifts I am putting in. I made a book that tells them what we are doing and it came out so cute. I am just waiting for the magnet paper to come and then I can print the magnets and put them in. I don't know how I am going to wait to give it to them for Christmas. I want to tell them now. I am just so excited I had to share and I know all of you would understand...haha

Hi Dream426,
What a great idea to give your parents the cruise as a Christmas gift (although I know the waiting will be tough for you) and to wrap everything up! I can only imagine how excited everyone will be when they're opening the boxes!!!! It'll be such a nice experience for all your family to cruise together; great memories for sure!

We're going on the Alaska cruise in 2011 with my mom and stepdad, and we're really excited about that! It's the first time they have cruised with Disney and the first cruise ever for my stepdad. He said that he always wanted to see Alaska and when I heard that the Wonder was going up there, I signed up immediately.

I would have signed up immediately also. That will be an awesome trip that everyone can enjoy. :)

I just wanted to wish everyone going on this cruise and also everyone on the Disney boards a Happy Thanksgiving!!! Hope you all have a great day!!
