August 2024 WISH Thread…making the most of the last month of summer☀️🏖️🌊

4th grade for me too!!! Ms. Sullivan was young, fun, creative. We created a book of recipes and cooked all of them. She bought my friend and I, ARE YOU THERE GOD? ITS ME MARGARET, by Judy Bloom, because we were a bit advanced in our development. We had a hamster and two turtles. Everything was amazing that year. She was instrumental in me becoming a teacher.

What a good question - I guess I'd have to say 6th grade. I was in class with my best friend and we were kind of the teacher's helper that year. It was our last year of grade school - we went to the middle school for 7th and 8th grades and we loved being the big kids that got to help the younger kids. We got to go to classrooms to read to the students, help with the crossing guard, etc.

I loved that year! Truthfully, I could write something about everyone of my elementary teachers! I remember them all fondly
❤️

I have the clearest memories of 3rd grade I think partly because it was my first school year after we moved to Seattle. But I also have fond memories of Mrs. Schaffer, and I remember we were really writing stuff, like essays and short stories, and I loved to write.

All I have to say about this morning is "ugh". I submitted the accommodation request last night because it needs to get turned around before I give my answer which is due by 9.13. But it didn't feel right and after making the commute into the city this morning it feels even less right. I'm sure part of it is fomo, because everyone else who does my same job will now be in office, but that is different than what has been happening and needs to be thought about. I was checking out what the foot-commuters were doing this morning (and there are a lot of them, it's a real thing to live in Bainbridge and take the boat to work) and it looks OK. The part I need to research is where to hop on a bus to get closer to the office because it is quite a hike - mostly up hill. Again, ugh... so much to figure out.

Yesterday was my first day back to set up my classroom. I had 4 giant bags of stuff I bought for my classroom plus a new rug for desk area. I loaded up my SUV with half of the stuff and DH loaded up his car and was about to leave when I discovered I had a flat tire. :upsidedow So I loaded everything into his vehicle and we left for school.

In spite of my flat tire, I was still the first teacher there, so the process of getting my keys and into my room was much quicker because the only people there were one of the secretaries and the security guard. Normally it’s a reunion of friends and colleagues while my DH is smiling on the outside and rolling his eyes on the inside just wanting to get to work. He helped me move all of my furniture back into it’s proper location…so much for the map the principal asked us to create to help the custodians…the furniture had been dropped in a random pile. Then other teachers began to arrive as DH assembled a new piece of furniture. When he was finished, he ran out to Duchess to get us lunch (no fries for me😁).

After lunch, he left to deal with my flat tire which turned out to be all afternoon while I continued working and sweating in my HOT classroom. Yes, our school is air conditioned…but someone needs to actually TURN IT ON.

I am so grateful that when I am given an obstacle, God steps in to help me. It could have been so much worse. The flat tire happened at home, not on the highway. DH was with me because he had taken the day off, so I was able to do my work while he took care of everything. Bad things will always happen, but it sure is nice to have support when they do.
I truly admire your dedication to your students! I am sure you have the best classroom every year!!!

This is the coleslaw I made last…couldn’t find celery seeds so I added fennel seeds. Also tossed in some sliced honey roasted almonds and chow mein noodles for protein and crunch

My clearest memory of a teacher that was consistently awesome all year was my second grade teacher Mrs Livesy. In winter we made who-houses out of gallon milk jugs and she put fake snow on the windows. Class was fun but challenging and met that perfect medium of not stressful but not boring.

Whoooooohoooooo we made it to Wednesday!!!! What are you celebrating today?!

I am going to celebrate DH and I taking a nice long walk on the fall like evening last night! It was a bonus from my typical around the blocks during the day. My Apple Watch died so I have no idea how far we walked but at least 2 miles!!

Thank you to everyone who shared their school memories yesterday! I loved hearing about them!!

My WooHoo for today i that I unexpectedly got to spend the evening with DD1 last night. DH is out of town at a meeting, so I texted DD and we went to Panera and to a movie. I picked her up and we ended up chatting in the car in front of her house for at least an hour before she got out. It was a great evening!

I am not sure what grade I liked better. I loved school so it is hard to say. I didn't like 4th because I just moved to a new school and I was so far behind everyone else. It was a very stressful year but I did have the same teacher I had in 2nd grade but I wasn't thrilled about it. She was never my favorite teacher. She yelled a lot and she liked to call me Stephy which I told her I hated and the first day of 4th grade she called me up in front of everyone and embarrassed me. Looking back it probably wasn't that bad but I hate being the center of attention. 5th was the only other year that I didn't like. The teacher was horrible. She painted her nails every day in class, we graded each others papers (I was in tutoring and on an IEP so school work was not always easier for me) and this embarrassed me at times. Other then these 2 grades I had some pretty good teachers that really helped me succeed to the point it hindered me in college. I tried to get help but since I no longer had an active IEP they would not help.

I am woohooing that I survived our staff retreat yesterday. We do one every year and it is a way for the entire company to get together. There are like 150 of us. It was a very long day of sitting in a chair this year. Normally it is only a half day and then we do something fun like some type of scavenger hunt. I love these as I get very competitive. This one was all day and we talked about change management. No real fun games either. Just a speaker in the morning and the some business they needed to let us know and then at the end of the day we were split into groups and had to come up with a skit to do in front of everyone. I about lost it at that point. No one in my group wanted to do it either. I even had a C level in my group. We came up with something easy. We didn't even practice. Other groups were so into it. We were all judged and we somehow tied for 3rd but we let the other group take 3rd. The other group put in way more effort then us. So it is now done and I can go back to my normal work.

Wow that’s a long day of sitting! If I had to do a performance in front of 100+ people I would have lost it too! You’re not alone there! Sounds like you guys did great though!

Woohoo... the decision is made and today I start working on the 12-month plan. The options felt small and restrictive until I got to working thru moving and returning to the office, then things started to feel light and expansive. Being in the office yesterday really helped, as it reminded me about how good it feels to work with real live people.

I've been perusing rentals and to live where I want to at the price-point I want, I'm going to be downsizing into a one-bedroom apartment/condo... so let the purging commence. It is going to be a total change in lifestyle, in so many ways.

One thing that keeps coming up for me is that the last time I went to the Bainbridge yarn store, which is located in the area where I want to live, I looked up the street and thought "I'd really enjoy living here"... I guess someone heard me.

My soon-to-be new neighborhood.

WOO HOO! My new grade partner loaned me her DH today. He cleaned my very filthy carpets for me. A colleague had asked to borrow them for summer school and unfortunately she was not a good steward of my property. But fortunately this lovely gentleman offered to help.

Good morning everyone and Happy Thankful Thursday!!

Thankful today for this beautiful weather we have been having all week!!

Thankful that our daughter in law has her weekly appointment today and they will be establishing a plan in the event that she does not deliver by her due date next week! I know they are more than ready to welcome baby girl!!

I hope everyone has a great day!!!

I am thankful for DD. Today is her 17th birthday. So as much as we can the day will be about her. She is working this morning then has her 1 class and tonight she has band practice. She works at a barn and it is a very relaxed place. I texted her boss (the owner) to let her know the it is DD's birthday. I knew DD didn't tell anyone because she never does. Her boss replied that she she didn't know but said she's got me covered. She will do something fun, and crazy I am sure. Since January when she took over she wrapped DD's car in plastic wrap and another time wrote on the windows of the car. She is a great boss and will help to make DD feel loved today.

In other news, DD still is coughing a lot. Yesterday, I got a text from my mom that my SIL is being treated for pneumonia. She has had the same cough as DD for over a month now. She is now getting sick when she coughs. DD is at this point too. SIL had an x-ray done to confirm pneumonia but started treating anyways. DD has had 2 ER visits, 2 visits to the doctors, 2 rounds of antibiotics, 2 rounds of steroids, Flonase and Zyrtec and nothing has helped. She has also used her inhaler, cough meds and cough drops and it hasn't helped. We see her pulmonologist next week. Both of them got this cough from my nephew. My sister brought him to vacation (we all stayed int he same house) sick with this cough. I am so pissed. I want to say something to my sister but it wouldn't do anything but cause problems. So I am just sitting with my feelings and trying to bite my tongue. I really hope we can get some answers next week.

Happy Birthday to DD! Congrats to you for raising a great girl!!!

I hope she feels better!! DH just told me last night of 2 people he knows through work with pneumonia! I have never heard of such severe cases of pneumonia in the summer!
