August 2016 Car Rental Rate watch

For the Costco codes, the free upgrade is working out cheaper than the $25 off coupon for the end of August.

I booked a full size through Alamo for our dates: 8/10-8/20. 11 days for $325 total, using the $30 off coupon and Alamo Insider contract ID.

I'm okay with it... will keep looking as the trip gets closer. The last few years we've gotten great rates on larger vehicles (SUVs, minivans) -- I feel safer driving in a larger vehicle. But we usually rent from Tampa airport... the prices may be different there.

Hi-as far as Kandb question-we did have an issue years ago (I think it was with Dollar, not Alamo). When we got to the desk, there was an issue with the code-they said something like it was an international code?? Anyway, we ended up paying a lot more for the rental. When I think back, I think I should have pushed the issue more as far as, here's my confirmation why are you telling me now the code isn't going to be accepted? Anyway, older and wiser.
So going forward, we do love Alamo for being able to go straight to the garage, but I won't use a code I don't have back up for-if we use BJ's codes, I bring the coupon and my BJ's card with me. Like PP have stated, just not worth it.

Yes, I am hesitant to use the AS1 code but it's saving us a lot. My fight at the rental counter would be, when you make the reservation, it does not say anywhere, that you must bring proof of anything. I feel that if proof is required they should tell you when you are booking the reservation.

Where'd ya get a $30 off code?

Well....as of now my dates are 8/12 - 8/27. I don't have my airfare going down yet but I have my eyes on a Friday evening flight. So if that pans out I have a mid-size thru Alamo for the 15 days...free additional driver for a grand total of $325.90. I can live with that. Once I buy my airfare going down I will run the rates again. But I think $325 for 15 days is pretty reasonable.

That sounds reasonable to me, especially since you have an extra day over the 2 weeks which they usually charge a lot for a single day.

I agree. I used the Costco code and the $25 coupon code. My in-laws are members and my hubby is a Jr so he will just bring his Dads card along as proof of membership. I will be the free additional driver so it all works out. :yay:

I'm down to $405 now for 2 weeks 3 hours Alamo standard using their free upgrade and the passholder discount. (I am a passholder) No free additional driver like there is when I use the BJ's coupon, but I never drive down there anyway.

Another $10 off my rental! Down to $125 for a compact 8/10-8/15 with the $25 off AD3868JST and contract#7014926

I just joined Costco. Where do I get the coupon codes?
There aren't coupon codes you can enter via Costco's travel website.

What I suggest is try various combinations of codes via Alamo's website. You can get Costco rates on the Alamo website by entering 7014627 for the Contract ID. Then you can also use coupon AD3868JST for $25 off. You will get the 2nd driver free by using the Costco Contract ID. Instead of the $25 coupon code, code AU2291VYT is a Costco coupon code for a class upgrade compact thru standard. If you are getting your car from MCO using Alamo, don't waste your time with it going from a standard to a fullsize as there is only a fullsize isle so standard people get from the fullsize isle anyway. Basically, at MCo and Alamo, always book standard and save the money as you pick from fullsize anyways.

But as others have mentioned here, don't just assume Costco will always be the cheapest. Sometimes, it is cheaper with nothing, time of day changes price, locations change price, so it is imperative to go through this thread, collect all the codes you see and try combos of them all and see what works best for you, at least IMO.

My 12 day rental is down to $227. Using the Costco code. The $25 off coupon and the free upgrade produced the same rate.

I used some codes from reading this board and was able to get a minivan for 10 days for $295.00. Thanks!!!

What company and codes did you use?

I am going in mid August and haven't been able to get lower than $600 for a minivan.

End of August I got a minivan from Alamo at MCO for 16 days, total aprox. $448. I posted the exact codes I used on the Alamo site either on this page or the previous one. I think it was as1, 15000 and the $25 coupon code. I'm on my phone and cannot easily look it up and share in this post.

Not sure about others, but my rental has gone up every day over the past week. I know it's probably because of the holiday weekend (I hope), but just hate it was in goes in the wrong direction. This is for both National and Alamo. I have a decent price with National (my preferred company, because of the perks). Pick up @ 8:00PM on August 2 and drop off on August 11 @ noon (so 9 days). Full size or better for $304. Alamo was running at $250 for a standard/full size. Just a reminder to reserve what you can live with and change if the price drops.

Same here... I'm only a 6 day rental, the 9th to the 15th
Right now I have an intermediate, full size, and premium for $132,$171 & $221
Just DD13 and myself.
Last year I had a full for $118
I'd hoped the prices would continue on the down slide

If it makes you feel better, put in your rental but change the dates to next week and see if the price goes up. Seems the July folks are paying alot more. My timeframe moved up makes my total go up a lot, so that makes me feel better than I'm not going in July....

Same. Ever since I found the $227 rate I booked last Thursday it's done nothing but go up. Currently at $306. When I put in dates for next week it goes up to $326. I may have gotten my best rate, but I'll keep watching it.
