August 2016 Car Rental Rate watch

Don't use the AS1 code. My rate drops by $100 by NOT using it. For Alamo I used the $25 coupon listed above and the passholder rate 15000 only. I'm not a Costco member so can't use that one, but the passholder rate gets me the same price. Today it's $250 for a full size car for 9 days....8/2-11.

For national full size/emerald aisle using 5007125 and $30 coupon nda2324br I'm at $304. While higher we do tend to find good deals on the aisle.

With all due respect, one cannot simply say don't use it. For me, it does get me a lower price versus not using it, for my dates and MCO for the airport. So I suggest trying different combinations of codes/leaving a code off and see what works best for an individual person. Trust me, I wish I didn't have to use it (as1) but without it my prices for the dates I've mentioned are ridiculous. By using it, I get the price I've gotten in past years using 15000 Disney pass holder and a coupon code. Still hoping rates for my dates drop using Costco but I have one with as1 as a backup.

I was actually referring to the post above that had the exact same dates as mine (Karpag). Everyone should always try the site without any codes first, then try adding them. For example, if I use National for my dates with no codes the base rate is lower. If I add a DVC, AP, Visa contract code to the search, the price goes up instead of down. People get too comfortable using codes and add them to their search right at the beginning. Things change all of the time, especially by day and hour. The AS1 code really changes the rate far out, but as the date gets closer, the rate with that one doesn't drop too much, while the regular contract code and coupons actually get cheaper. Last week on Alamo, I was getting a better price using the DVC contract code, then the next day the passholder contract code was cheaper. Also keep in mind dumping your cookies/cleaning is sometimes recommended too.

Hi, Can you tell me what codes you put for Alamo to get this $308 rate? My dates are almost same as yours, 8-3 to 8-10. So I am looking for 8 day rental, which is one less than you, Full size, and my price I am getting is higher than yours. I get confused which code to put in which box. Coupon, contract or product boxes, which goes in which? Thanks for your help!

I used the Alamo passholder rate 15000 and the $25 coupon AD3868JST to get a rate of $250 for a fulll size car. If I added the AS1 the rate actually went UP $100. If you're a DVC member there is a contract code for that one too. Costo is very popular, esp. the additional driver perk. Not a member myself, so I don't use it, but do like to compare prices to it. As mentioned, you should always try a combo of codes/contract codes/coupons. Things change daily/sometime hourly. My rate was $250 yesterday, haven't checked yet this morning. I don't use the product code unless I have to. Hope you get a better rate and check often. National was still higher yesterday and they don't have the great low rates like they use to in the past. Though I tend to be loyal to them first, just to keep my perks with them (executive aisle service, free days, etc.)

BTW--on Alamo aisles, there is no standard aisle at MCO, so if you choose standard you actually choose your car from the full size aisle. So when comparing rates, choose whichever one (standard or full size) is the lower price.

On Alamo there are the the following boxes: Coupon: AD3868JST, Contract code: 15000 or which ever contract code you plan to use as there are several. Obviously if you're a costco cardholder that often gets the best rate, DVC members have a code too. Lastly there is a product code: often this get filled in after you book. There are a few floating around, esp. the AS1 (I always try without this code first) on flyer talk it has been linked to a South American travel company. So far no bad reports regarding it.

My rental went down a little more from the decrease yesterday. Keep checking! :)

8/10-8/15 Compact at Alamo $139. coupon #AD3868JST Contract #7014926 (this was better for me than the 15000 contract #)

It must be my dates (8/20 - 9/5 with Alamo at MCO) that are making mine so difficult to get good rates for some reason. I just tried with the criteria you used above and for a minivan (7 passenger) it is $1271! Ouch... It has been this way for s long time now. Even a full size is $601. Same with various combos of that coupon code and trying Costco, Disney annual pass holder etc. But when I use that coupon you mentioned, the 15000 Disney annual pass holder, plus add in the as1 code, it goes to $319 for a fullsize and $443 for the minivan. Just shows one must try every code they can find!

Glad rates are coming down for most though, this is very good. Keep checking right till the last day and good luck to all! :)

Parad0x you're right. It's crazy how one code, going at the end of the month vs the beginning, the time of day or day of the week you check, booking on the hour or 1/2 hour, ect. will take the rates all over the place. That's why I'm checking every chance I get. I really appreciate when people share what's worked well for them.

7014627 You can check on the Costco site, but I've found the best rates on Alamo.

I just checked again on both sites and Costco was cheaper. It dropped over $100 for my dates since last week. We are flying into Tampa and out of Orlando, so I think that was why it was a bit more. I prefer to book through Costco to get the second driver for free so we can both drive.

That's great! Just an FYI...You can use the Costco code on Alamo's site and it will include the free second driver. I just always go with who is cheapest.

If you put these codes in, does the rental car company ever ask you to "prove" anything? My concern would be them asking, me not having proof and the price of rental doubling in price or even more. It would be a big problem, especially if your ready to leave the airport with luggage, kids etc. Anyone ever have a problem?

We are flying into Tampa and staying at the Beach Club. I just booked a 6 day rental, full size for 8/21 thru 8/27 thru Alamo for $170, which is the cheapest I have found using the AS1 code and contract 7014926. Does anyone know if I will have a problem using the AS1 code? I guess I could just have a backup reservation at another rental agency in case they won't let me rent with that code?

People were recently having problems with an expired $50 coupon floating around over the last few months. People were having to go to the desk to get it honored and some could not get it honored. Too much for me to worry about, so I took mine off after hearing those stories--not how I want to start a vaca. Not to worry, it's gone now. As for the AS1, which flyertalk has it linked to a South American Travel Company, seems to be getting by sucessfully. While it gives a good price far out, many have been able to drop it as the price drops closer in. The problem using a S.Amer. code may be how your insurance is affected should you have an accident. No one really knows for sure yet. Just remember, as you check rates as your dates get closer, remember to check without codes, because sometimes no codes gets you a better rate than loading codes on right at the start. For me, I'm seeing $250 for 9 days rental/full size the beginning of August, but if I add the AS1 now, the price goes up over a $100. Good luck.

Where can I find the DVC Alamo discount code? I'm a DVC member logged in to the website but can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Thank you for this tip!!

I removed the AS1 Product ID today (which has, up to this point, always given me a cheaper rate) and my midsize rental (Tampa, 10/19 - 10/26) went down almost $50!! It dropped from $175 to $128, and that was just using the $25 off coupon AD3868JST and Save with Alamo Contract ID 7014926.

Much appreciated :-)

Hi-as far as Kandb question-we did have an issue years ago (I think it was with Dollar, not Alamo). When we got to the desk, there was an issue with the code-they said something like it was an international code?? Anyway, we ended up paying a lot more for the rental. When I think back, I think I should have pushed the issue more as far as, here's my confirmation why are you telling me now the code isn't going to be accepted? Anyway, older and wiser.
So going forward, we do love Alamo for being able to go straight to the garage, but I won't use a code I don't have back up for-if we use BJ's codes, I bring the coupon and my BJ's card with me. Like PP have stated, just not worth it.
