August 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch!

Rates are SUPER high the last few days for our travel dates :scared: .

Maybe this is the big spike before they slash the prices? :scratchin

Like Dory said "Just keep watching, just keep watching". Err, well, close enough :lmao:

Rates are still incredibly high for late July as well. A weekly Orlando rental with Dollar is 238 plus tax. But, in Tampa (same week) $80.00 plus tax.

I rechecked my rental, which I am locked in at for 180 right now....Is now 320!! WOW

It's like airline prices. The rates go up as the week wears on. The best rates are Tuesday/Wednesday. I booked with Dollar on Wednesday morning and it went up by that night.

My prices drop dramatically for a local rental. Party of 6 who needs/wants a van to the airport and it was $400+(cannot remember the price but it was insane) just booked it at $120. Yeah insane for a rental but if I get 2 cars its $40 a piece and then need 3 drivers to pick them up and then 2 drivers to airport at 1am.

I'll gladly pay a bit more for all of us to go together.

Holy cow rates got high again! Just checked Alamo and even with discount codes I'm seeing over $500 for an economy for 8 days. Ouch. I have something booked in the $200s, but was really hoping they'd drop more by now.

Me too, I'm getting 600+ for a standard today. We're locked in at 360 right now for 12 days but I'm also hoping the price drops :worship:

We're going August 16-31. When I put in my request I thought the prices were for BUYING not renting:confused3 We went during the same time frame last year and I had a full size booked through Priceline on June 10th for $14 a day. Sure rates will drop again, but would like to see it sooner rather than later.

I just went back to last year's reservation and we paid 220 for 11 days for a standard with Alamo. It was booked on 8/2 and we arrived on 8/22 so hoping we'll start seeing prices dip soon.

We'll be there Aug 16-30, too cool.

Yeah, I agree, the pricing thus far this year has in fact been different than past years at this time. Quite honestly, the prices they are asking this year are out of control. I locked in a few weeks back at a price I am kind of comfortable with but it's still about $5 more a day higher than previous years. If I have to keep it I'll be ok, but the the prices went up again today to insane amounts, like $900 for 2 weeks for a mid size. :rolleyes2

Rates for early August are still insanely high.

I got a reservation with the KLH code a few months back, and that is still the lowest I can get.

Question: Do you actually need to have a KLH membership card when you go pick up your car at the airport?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat. The prices right now are beyond ridiculous. I also got in a few weeks back at a rate that still seemed high, but acceptable. I'm glad I did because if my only option right now was to have a $600 8 day rental while I wait for a hopeful drop in price, I'd be pretty annoyed.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but I had a rental via Budget for a one way drop. We are flying into Orlando in late August (28th) and spending the night, then driving to Fort Lauderdale from there. We needed transportation from MCO to FLL. I rented a mini van for $119 or so via Budget back in January. I was on the Southwest website this morning and out of curiousity, I put my dates in for a car via SW. I got the same rental for $80.40!! Of course I booked it. I normally don't go through the airlines for vehicle rentals but thought this might help someone lower their rate. Of course I do have a SW Rapid Rewards number from flying with them over the years. You can sign up and get one for free.

:)

Thought my $309 rate for a mid-size SUV thru National, 9 days, was good until I just checked Dollar. Got the same vehicle thru their "city specials" picking up at the Wyndham in DTD for $245...total with taxes $288 :).

WOW, mommyrosa2...I just checked Dollar after I saw your post, and I can save $170 if I pick up at the Wyndham DTD (9 days, midsize SUV, still returning to MCO). Have you done this before? I'm just trying to figure out the logistics and what kind of time this would take. I'd have to get a cab from MCO to the Wyndham, but I'd still save $100+! Thanks for the heads up.

Do you mean KLM? It's a good idea to have a membership card. They are free, so just go to their website to sign up. You can even request a temporary card to print out if its close to your trip
