Doing a happy dance - booked through dollar for 10 days, 2 hours $191 total with taxes. this is for a compact OR larger (their choice). Yay! This saves me $21 over my Ez reservation and takes out the worry of using EZ! I plugged in the AAA corporate code (have aaa) and that's it!
I got an intermediate out of MCO for 8/15 - 8/24 for $204.91 with Budget through carrentalsavers.com this morning. Yesterday, the same reservation was $222.25. I ended up canceling my original reservation with National for $286 with the KLM code that is no longer valid for new rentals. Still looking to get it under $200, but this is a lot better than what I've been seeing the last few months.
I've been going back and forth checking my rates on Budget and Alamo I am now at $138 for 7 days with Budget code u072700 Southwest and coupon Muwz107. I'm at a lower rate than I had last November in Tampa! Linda![]()
Just checked Alamo again using the Costco codes (free upgrade and costco contract ID) and my Insiders (free additional driver) and got $329 for a standard (Aug 13-27) - cancelled yesterdays reservation at $366. Fingers crossed it goes down more...but again, I can definitely live with 329!
Just a heads up.....Alamo discontinued the free additional driver for Insiders members as of June 16th, 2014.

Hotwire is offering a minivan rental for $22/day ($311 total). That is an awesome price. I think I may try a priceline bid under that, so see if I'd win, otherwise go with Hotwire. I typically like booking with a rental company I have "status" in (Alamo or National) but I'm not getting good minivan rates with any combination of codes through their sites. My option prior to this was to have a $200-ish National rental that would let me pick from the emerald aisle or exec emerald aisle...and have a "back up" minivan rental for about $450 ish. If I can get a guaranteed minivan rental for around $300 I will just do it and forget trying to deal with the dualing reservations when I get to the airport.
Since I've had to change my flight into Orlando, the price of the minivan has more than doubled for us.
We have 5 people going. My wife and I, my wife's stepsister, our 15yo niece, and our 6yo daughter.
What is everyone's thoughts on the possibility of us downsizing to an intermediate SUV for this trip? Would there be enough room in the backseat for people to be comfortable?
