August 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch!

Budget intermediate 8/16 - 8/27 from MCO for $232 using BCD U072700 (Southwest) and coupon MUGZ007 ($40 off 10 day+). Getting closer to my last year rate with Dollar ($188). Huge improvement over what existed a week ago.

Yesterday though Costco got Aug 6-11th rental down another $25 for a full size for $195 with Alamo including taxes and fees.

Doing a happy dance - booked through dollar for 10 days, 2 hours $191 total with taxes. this is for a compact OR larger (their choice). Yay! This saves me $21 over my Ez reservation and takes out the worry of using EZ! I plugged in the AAA corporate code (have aaa) and that's it!

Just checked Alamo again using the Costco codes (free upgrade and costco contract ID) and my Insiders (free additional driver) and got $329 for a standard (Aug 13-27) - cancelled yesterdays reservation at $366. Fingers crossed it goes down more...but again, I can definitely live with 329!

I just checked Alamo again...it's coming down but still slightly higher then what I have booked from early June. At least we're starting to see some movement! Now let's keep it going :worship:

Thanks for the AAA reminder. I was previously just using the city special rates. My LL&G rate with Dollar using AAA is $228 for Aug 16-Aug 27. Within a few bucks of Budget. Now I have a choice of either.

I got an intermediate out of MCO for 8/15 - 8/24 for $204.91 with Budget through carrentalsavers.com this morning. Yesterday, the same reservation was $222.25. I ended up canceling my original reservation with National for $286 with the KLM code that is no longer valid for new rentals. Still looking to get it under $200, but this is a lot better than what I've been seeing the last few months.

Just checked again and the same car is now $195.66 on carrentalsavers. Prices are coming down - FINALLY!!!

I'm never used carrentalsavers before. How has people's experience been with them?

I've been researching for a few days and CRS is bringing the best prices.
Definitively recommended.

I've been going back and forth checking my rates on Budget and Alamo I am now at $138 for 7 days with Budget code u072700 Southwest and coupon Muwz107. I'm at a lower rate than I had last November in Tampa! Linda :)

Just a heads up.....Alamo discontinued the free additional driver for Insiders members as of June 16th, 2014.

Yeah, emails had gone out about it as well. If you book Alamo through Costco you can still get the 2nd driver free though for those who are Costco members and find the price comparable through them. Though prices in general have been not so good this year compared to many many past years...

I post on both the Aug and Sept threads---my trip is 8/30-9/9. Rates are FINALLY dropping. I need a minivan but I could get a full size on costco for under $200, which is an awesome price for 10 days.

Hotwire is offering a minivan rental for $22/day ($311 total). That is an awesome price. I think I may try a priceline bid under that, so see if I'd win, otherwise go with Hotwire. I typically like booking with a rental company I have "status" in (Alamo or National) but I'm not getting good minivan rates with any combination of codes through their sites. My option prior to this was to have a $200-ish National rental that would let me pick from the emerald aisle or exec emerald aisle...and have a "back up" minivan rental for about $450 ish. If I can get a guaranteed minivan rental for around $300 I will just do it and forget trying to deal with the dualing reservations when I get to the airport.

Since I've had to change my flight into Orlando, the price of the minivan has more than doubled for us.

We have 5 people going. My wife and I, my wife's stepsister, our 15yo niece, and our 6yo daughter.
What is everyone's thoughts on the possibility of us downsizing to an intermediate SUV for this trip? Would there be enough room in the backseat for people to be comfortable?

I just pricelined a minivan for $19 a day for Aug 20-31 ($331 total for 11 days). Got Hertz. Very happy with this price as I have been watching religiously for several weeks and vans have been $700+ for our dates.

I know I maybe could have got a better rate by waiting for a couple of weeks, but these high prices have me really gun shy.

Have never rented a car with priceline before. I have a Hertz membership; I assume any perks associated with that aren't valid when using a priceline rental. Is that correct?

We have a similar situation mid August. Try Hotwire and priceline. Not my favorite way of doing things as they are not cancelable and depending on the company you end up with, additional drivers may incur a fee. However, checking this morning I could have got a minivan for our dates at $20-23 a day (around $300 total for 9 days).

Or I bet you could fit in something else:-) (we have 7 so a minivan is the only option)
