August 2014 Car Rental Deal Watch!

FINALLY!!! The rates are lower! We are going Aug. 16 - 25th and we just started looking for a rental car a couple weeks ago and kept finding rates for a compact around $600 and up! I had felt lucky to find Dollar for $327 w/ the BJ's code (BJ5013) for $327. Just checked now and with no coupon, but with the City Special, I was able to rebook for $248.60 w/ Dollar and then thanks to jerseygirl81 (THANKS!) and her coupons, booked a backup with Alamo which I prefer for $273.61 w/ Insiders as well. I'm sure that they will come down more, but either way, this isn't too bad for such a long rental.

I'm still looking for a better deal that what we currently have. Does anyone know, if I book a Budget car through Car Rental Savers will the spouse driver still be available at no charge?

For me, a minivan for a week is still around $800. This is just awful.

My prices are coming down again....now I'm at 243 (that's with a discount through the teacher's association up here and an Entertainment coupon) for the 9 full days we're there for a standard car at Alamo. Hopefully it keeps coming down!

Just booked through Alamo using Costco codes (free upgrade and Costco member) Got a standard (booked a midsize, but got a free upgrade to standard) for $366 for 2 weeks. Much better than the $800 that it was going to be at the beginning of my search a month or so ago!!

Still hoping for less...but I can definitely live with that amount

I need a minivan too and the prices are so high. I used the KLM code in January to book a minivan for 10 days. I think it is $430. I was hoping for lower but have not found anything under $600. Ugh!! I debated getting an intermediate SUV but don't think we will all fit with our luggage. Sucks!!

Thanks for posting this I just got a great rate at Alamo booked a standard but since there is no standard aisle at MCO we will pick from the full size aisle. Aug. 26-Sept 2 7 days for $151! I had a car reserved with Budget for $180 its nice to see it going down!! I used code 7014926 and coupon code AF4469SDU Linda

I was able to get a great rate using the codes you posted, can you tell me what they are for? Can anyone use them? Do you have a physical coupon?

YUP. I wish I would have booked with the KLM code when I had the chance. I need a minivan for 10 days Aug 30-Sep 9 and the rates have been $700-800. Costco just quoted me $569 which is the cheapest I've seen in a while...but still unbelievably high!

Just checked again tonight (24 hrs later) and the Dollar rental is down to $218.62 w/ just the City Special and Alamo is now $234.02. Phew! Don't give up, they are coming down! Hopefully all of you needing a minivan will have some luck soon!

I've looked and looked to see where the corp. code 7014926 came from with no luck. It has been around for over a year so I'm not going to worry about it.

What are the sites you guys searching?
I am trying to find a car down MCO for 8/21/14 to 9/4/14 through Car Rental Savers and best I could get so far is a compact for around $350 +
Maybe my dates are bad or the coupons are not being applied propperly.
Costco best rate is $465 for a compact, just too expensive!

Just dropped from $247 all in for a midsize to $206 all in for a full size with Budget. USAA rate and coupon mugz007 ($40 off 10 days or more). My dates are 8/9-8/19, picking up at MCO.

This rate just dropped tonight, and only on the full size.

Just went from Alamo to Budget through Costco, 8/9-8/25 (16 days 2 hours) fullsize, originally $460 all in, now down to $373. That translates to about $16 a day before taxes and fees. Oh, and with Costco we get one additional driver fee waived. Donna

Last night I went on Alamo's website, put in my discount codes (through work and Entertainment coupon) and I got a rate of 218 for a standard for 9 days. I'm not sure how it happened and I can't duplicate it at all. But I took it and ran. It's 40 dollars cheaper than what I had. So, I'm at about $24 a day.

I got an intermediate out of MCO for 8/15 - 8/24 for $204.91 with Budget through carrentalsavers.com this morning. Yesterday, the same reservation was $222.25. I ended up canceling my original reservation with National for $286 with the KLM code that is no longer valid for new rentals. Still looking to get it under $200, but this is a lot better than what I've been seeing the last few months.

I just got a full size with Budget for 12 days out of MCO for for $269.29 using the entertainment BCD and coupon code. I booked for $320 a couple of weeks ago then the jumped from the time. When I checked today, it had dropped.
