august 2013 codes for rental cars?

There really seems to be a large shortage of Mini-vans!

I booked a 4 day rental back in May through Southwest for $225. It popped up right after I made a flight reservation.

I just booked a 3 day rental for a mid-size suv for pickup at a DTD resort for $180ish...because I want to take the Magical Express.

I wish I could find a decent 3 day rental of a mini-van though....now I really have to think about which one to keep.

Dollar dropped again for me today. 8/3(early am)-8/8(7pm) base rate for a midsize (Dodge Avenger) is $96 total comes out to $146.21. The rate code is: RCW66. My previous reservation came out to $167, so I'm saving another $20

It states that is an invalid promotion code?

The rate code (RCW66 and the like) isn't something you enter. Dollar assigns a rate code depending on your reservation. For instance, I just looked at my dates, picked a City Special and got a rate code of R4WW5. Its not a Promo Code or Corporate code that you'd enter.

Got it thank you!

Rates have dropped slightly from this past week, but they still don't beat my personal best from a month or so ago- 242 for a standard at Alamo for 13 days, 8/22-9/3. The insiders rate has been the lowest consistently. Should I hope for a better rate than this? I'll definetly keep looking, as this is almost double what we paid last year :sad2: (but that was in Sept, and one day shorter). Is this the new normal, or can I continue to hope for a drop closer to our trip?

Yes, I think you'll do better. You're just hitting the 3 week mark, so pay close attention the next couple of weeks.

@frannn I did not do better than $240 for 13 days on a Standard with Alamo. This is a more than what we paid last year ...but not by much when you break it down:

2012 ~ rented a Standard for 9 days = total $152.75, or $16.97 per day

2013 ~ reserved a Standard for 13 days = total $240.09, or $18.46 per day

In one year, I am paying $1.49 more per day to rent the same class of car. Not too bad, IMO.

Last year we were given the option of upgrading to a Premium car for no additional cost as there were no Standard nor Fullsize cars avail ( at 12:30 a.m. on a Wednesday after a thunderstorm ;-), and drove off in a luxurious Cadillac. While I do not expect the same to happen this year, I'm pretty confident that we will be able to find something more than adequate in the "Standard AKA Fullsize" row at MCO.

I found 3 weeks from our date to leave scored the lowest rate with Alamo.

You need to check a couple of times a day. For me, Alamo has bounced around. Some days there is absolutely no movement. Then one day, it will drop a bit. Then drop again that same day. And then bounce way back up.

Right now midnight between 7/28 and 7/29, for 8/27 Noon to 9/2 Noon, with the Alamo Insiders discount (nothing entered in the CID box) and the Visa $30 off coupon (AD2338FDF), I'm getting $251.43 for a *standard*. Which at Orlando Airport is the same as a Fullsize. Midsize is $250.88, Compact is $240.34, Economy is $229.80.)

Though lower than your $264, those are not very good prices. The weekly rate for the standard is $251.68. The weekly rate when I booked at the lowest low I've seen was $113.xx and my total for a 10-day from 8/3-8/12 was $179.xx.

So again, check at least daily. Watch this board - people will post when there's a big drop. Drops don't happen for all dates, though. Half the time I checked when people posted about drops, my dates had not dropped. But the other half - those posts helped me snag a rate that I am very happy with.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, I will be checking everyday for a cheap price, since I haven't been looking lately!

My Alamo rate this morning is exactly the same as it was when Alamo dipped a week or so ago to the penny. Makes me think my search is over at 13 days out. I am ok with it...it is not great but I am happy I can pick my own car. Still was pulling for National as I have always ended up there with a decent rate and have consistently ended up with a Jeep. The kids will be a bit bummed being in a car:)

You cut me up. :) I literally look forward to your posts, always so upbeat and fun. :cheer2:

Aw, shucks  . Thanks gmeh1. And I know I have said it before, but its worth saying again....your contributions to this board, as someone who actually works in the car rental industry, are hugely helpful to us travellers (probably more than you realize!). We are all very lucky to have you as a regular poster, and appreciate all your time and efforts to give us the low down on car rentals ::yes:: .

On an Alamo note....:drive:

A standard SUV is now down to $319 for my dates (a mid-size was $342 a week ago, but ever since that time the mid-size seems to be unavailable).

I talked to DH, and he says our magic number is $275, otherwise we will stick with our $245 National reservation. We are willing to pay a little bit more for Alamo, but "a lot" more. Today is our three week mark, so I will be watching those rates like a hawk this weekend popcorn:: . (oh heck, who am I kidding? I have been watching the rates like a hawk for the last three weeks :rotfl: .... why stop now? :rolleyes1).

Yeah, my best rate is $284 all in for a standard from Alamo for 2 weeks. We are 8 days out (and :cool1: to that!). I've seen that price pop up randomly a couple of times since I booked it last week, but I've not seen anything better. So, hope springs eternal and I will keep looking, but I figure we've got our best deal, too.

My Alamo just dropped $3 this morning. lol
12 days standard now $219. Didnt think it would go lower than $222 - it bounced back up to 384 just last week. Wow they really do vary widely - kind of like airfare - sure wish I could rebook my flights when the fares drop!!
Insiders disc + Visa AD2338FDF $30 off

2 weeks today and zero movement. While most people would probably be thrilled with our rate, it is the highest I've EVER had except for our Easter week trip :sad1:

I'll keep checking everyday though!

I agree with this! Gmeh1 is very helpful! :thumbsup2

One day makes a huge difference! Had i kept my car one day longer, the price would have gone from $132 to $195!!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it?? Crazy!
