August 2012 Car Rental Thread

Seems like Alamo rates are down only with pickup at MCO :(
That gives me between $115-121, total, depending on code and coupon.

Plugging in any other location around the World gives me the same rate I've got (or slightly higher) - $220 midsize, Aug 7-14.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't mind driving in, but we're arriving on a way late flight, and these eyes don't see so well after midnight anymore :worried:
So, I guess I'll just keep poking, and hope something turns up

I'm there the 4th - 14th and so far Alamo is the highest for me. I currently have a mid-size booked through Dollar for $222. No matter what codes I use for Alamo its between $400 - $500, and I'm picking up and dropping off at MCO

I think it is our pick up date of the 4th.

Yea, our Alamo rental for 8/4 - 8/11 is still $291 for the week for a standard. I think that pick up date is just more.

Just checked National and got a better deal. $197 for a full. Using ID 5004691 and coupon NDA23A4BQ

Where is the ID and code from? Is it public?

I just tried National using those codes and mine came in at $266. Looks like Dollar is still best for me.

I think the pick up on the 4th is my issue, along with the fact that I'm picking up early morning on the 4th and dropping off late afternoon on the 14th, which technically makes it an 11 day rental.

I'm also still holding a 7 day rental (pick up at MCO and drop of at the Dolphin) through Alamo using the Vroom code which is at $176. and I scheduled a return trip to MCO using ME

Just trying to decide if having a car for the entire time we're there is worth an additional $46.

I wish the SOG pick up worked for me. We land at MCO and go to Universal first. So we'll pick up the car and drive ourselves over.
I'd have to rent a car from MCO for those three days, return it to MCO, use ME to get to Disney, get a taxi over to SOG, and rent another. I'd lose half a day with all of that aggregation so it's simply not worth it.

I told myself if we couldn't get a car for the 5 of us for 200 or under I wasn't renting one and we'd use a taxi to and from Universal and then ME. Luckily I found one for 206.

Our trip is from US/Ioa to Disney and I just scored a great rate from Alamo!

I booked a standard picking up from MCO and dropping off at Dolphin from August 15 - 22 . Even though we are not checking out of YC until the 25th, we won't need the car the last three days our trip. (we are using ME to go back to the airport). I used the BJ's membership code with the American airlines coupon and landed a GREAT weekly rate of $79!!! :cool1: With the taxes and fees, it came to $126. I am thrilled because we need the car for Universal and Sea World but wanted to turn it in at the Dolphin so we wouldn't waste time driving back to the airport. At first, the rate for two different sites was sky high but today it was not. I am so excited, especially since I just read that booking a standard means scoring a full sized car!!

Hope that this helps you.

We are members of BJ's - so I reserved by clicking through their website, which then goes to Alamo's site. This "corporate code" (or whatever it is), is 7014696. I am also an "Alamo Insider" - not quite sure what good that does, but I added my info in that section. Then to save an additional $35, I used e-coupon code AD2359FDF, which is an American Airlines code - I registered on that site also in case Alamo actually checks. The BJ's code allows for an additional driver with no additional charge, and also unlimited miles.

As far as the BJ's code, I always book using that code, and have never had a problem,NORr have I been asked to show my BJ's card, however I do have a membership so if they do ask, I'm good ... FWIW

Hope that can help someone !

You helped me so much. The weekly rate for us was $79. With fees it is $124 for a standard. (which turns out to be a full sized car) AND I am picking up at MCO and dropping off at the Dolphin which works so well since we are staying at the YC. THANKS a MILLION!!!!!

Just rebooked my Dollar reservation and saved another $15.

8/22 9:00am pickup at MCO - 8/31 5:00pm drop off MCO
Full size car

$197 :dance3:

Of course I'd love to save more but since it stared out at $370, I'm super happy.

Alamo using AMEX code is now cheaper than the insiders code. Standard down to $109 with tax! (amex code 7014291
and $35 coupon)

Amex rate does not allow free driver, so beware if that is a concern to you. :)

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Love that free additional driver!

As prices continue to drop, it lends oneself to wondering......how low will the rates go?

We got a compact for $68 all-in with Alamo for our New Years trip, then were upgraded to an intermediate (I think....it was a Chevy HHR). Would love, love, love to see our August rentals come in under $100! :worship:

I wonder how low they'll go too! I'm at 109 right now. For a standard. I'm completely break even over hiring a towncar which we had to do anyway, so now I'm at the point of saying this rate is good enough, lets get a bigger car....but I might cheap out on myself and just see how low we can go. LOL.

Do you have to pay using the AMEX? I'm afraid that I will loose the good rate with the two different locations.

Plugging your date/time into Alamo gets $184 for full size with a free additional driver. Just use Insiders code (7015135) and $35 coupon (AD2359FDF). If you don't need the additional driver, use the AMEX code (7014291) with that coupon and the total comes down to $174.

I'm assuming you do, though when you get to the kiosk maybe you won't have to.

I have amex anyway, so it's not a big deal. I also dont' need the additional driver so again that's no big deal.

talking to myself but I just searched and seems Alamo does not have a standard asile at MCO so I guess we'll be given a full size anyway. Deal.

Correct! and last year there was a Ford Edge SUV parked in the full size row that we gladly took! (There were a few mini vans as well, but I certainly wouldn't count on it!)

Do you need to show anything at pick up to qualify for these rates?

Tampa is still super high!

I know!!:( Were renting out of Tampa on the 18th too. If you find a good rate let me know....if I find a good rate (been checking almost everyday) I'll be sure to post!:thumbsup2 I do think it will come down more when the date gets closer but it doesn't look like we will get the low rates that people are getting out of MCO.
