August 2012 Car Rental Thread

I don't know....I just clicked on the help button at the top to the right of hot deals, clicked on additional driver and copied and pasted to my post:confused3
It also says additional drivers can only be added at the check in counter. I don't know what I'm missing but all the info is on the Alamo website.

Mine says "at the counter or with Save Time." When I got my email confirmation, it had the option to prefill my info to use the kiosk- aka their Save Time feature. This is where you add the additional driver. There is nowhere to even put an Insider number for the additional driver.

alamo - down to $137 for me with insiders rate and coupon.

I'm feeling way more confident at this point that I'll hit my goal of saving money vs renting a towncar service. I'm just about at break even right now.

I was very excited to get a price of $350 for my mini van. But - I used the costco ID and the code AD2359FDF which I thought was an Alamo code but on my form it states it is an American Airlines Valley Offer - do I need something for that....... Thanks.......I cancelled my other car so I am feeling a little paniced.....

The coupon is from American Airlines and is listed on Mousesavers. Here's what they say:
"American Airlines AAdvantage members (frequent flyer program, FREE to join) can get $35 off weekly rentals of any size car in the US, Latin America or Caribbean. Go to the Alamo website and use the coupon code AD2359FDF when booking. No physical coupon required. A Saturday night keep is required. Valid on rentals through 12/31/12."

Thank you so much. When I googled it I found info as an alamo coupon. Thanks again, due to the info on here I went from $530 to $350.

It pays to keep on checking. Switched to Alamo last night at $184 for 10 nights. This morning, just reduced the same ressie 10 bucks more to $174. Only using Alamo Insider ID and the AA $35 coupon. Additional driver free is also a nice bonus.

I am jealous as I cannot find any good deals. I need a minivan out of Tampa, 8/18 (10 AM) to 9/1 (12PM). I cannot find anything under $800.

Just used the Alamo insider number and the AA coupon (thanks for that) and got my 8 day SUV for $173 total.

I now have (2) reservations, both for $188, full size car:

National (using the 2 codes posted by others here previously): pick up at SOG at 10am on 8/24, drop off at MCO at 5pm on 9/3.

Alamo (using the 2 codes posted by others here previously): pick up at MCO at 11:30pm on 8/23, drop off at MCO at 4:30pm on 9/3.

Havent been able to get the Dollar City Specials down to this price level yet.

I know....me too! We are renting out of Tampa on the 8/18 for 8 days and the best I can do is about $239 for a midsize. I would really like to get down to under $200. Have no choice though, I will have to pay whatever the price is cause ya can't get DME from Tampa.;)

Well it seems the price to beat is 513.00. for a minivan. This beats my budget minivan res of 537. these numbers are the grand total not the base rate. Oddly the amex code and the coupon code from AA save me more than the costco id.
Amex code 7014291
Coupon code AD2359fdf

My dates are aug 10 2:00 pm
Aug 21 12 noon

I tried that combo (since I am trying everyone possible for my dates) and the mini van comes to $1,150..UGH!!!

Is it possible for you just to rent 2 cars instead of 1 minivan? Given current pricing, it would cost much less that way if you have 2 drivers to make it work.

Just to let everyone know, I personally and many others used this code in the May 2012 thread (so not even 3 months ago) and had no issues. I joined AAdvantage for free and printed out the membership number but was not asked for it.

Thanks for that info. Very nice to know :)

I'm sorry - pardon me...but what rental company is this with ? National? Alamo? oops I just googled it...I think alamo
Would love a mini-van I have a "full size" chevy impala (or the like) currently reserved with national from 8/10 ORL02 noon > 8/22 MDO 5:00PM. >>$537.25 grand total<<< with the 2012 entertainment book "double upgrade" coupon. You pick a compact...and it double upgrades you to a fullsize...and you pay the same price...theoretically
Thank you.

Alamo

I have been checking rates with Alamo for August 22 to August 27th and it seems that is a lot cheaper to rent at MCO than at WDW Car Care Centre. Any idea why this is the case:confused3

I wonder why I have to pickup at airport....hmm

...because you likely put in the code for the airport? There are other options (such as the Car Care Center, the Dolphin, etc). Are you flying to Orlando? If so, is it a problem to pick the car up at the airport?

As an aside...I see people talk about renting from alternate Disney locations and I've never found them to be cheaper.
