August 20, 2016 Disney Magic 7 night Mediterranean

Hi, welcome! We are very excited too! We are also arriving on the 18th. I'm not sure how my 8 and 10 year old are going to do with the long flight from California. Actually I'm not sure how my husband and I are going to do either! This is our first trip to Europe! Would you like to be added to the fish extender list?

Hi again! We haven't decided on FE yet. We're usually minimalist travelers (one carryon apiece), so if we did FE we'd have to add a suitcase! :) I'll let you know as soon as that decision is made.

Where in California are you coming from? We adults are all originally from Eureka (waaay up north) and have put in a lot of time at Disneyland. Even our girls have spent more time at D-land than at WDW!

It will be fun to get to know everyone here. :)

See you all soon! Under 3 months away!

How exciting! We can't wait, kids are really looking forward to our upcoming cruise. Just booked our shore excursions! We too are arriving on the 18th but we haven't booked anything yet. Looked at AirBnB, just can't decide!
I'm sure it will be here in no time!

I'm curious--where IS everyone staying in Barcelona? I'm just starting to look!

No problem! 1 carry-on each! Don't tell my husband that!! ;) I am a serious over-packer! We are from Orange County, CA. I agree that it is going to be so much fun!

Oh! Orange County! We've spent a lot of time there visiting friends in the past. We had/still have friends in Garden Grove, Irvine, Huntington Beach, Cypress, San Juan Capistrano... Love visiting there. I'd live in Laguna Beach if I could afford it. (Kennebunkport is the next best thing!)

We always stay at the Hyatt OC when we go to Disneyland. It's our favorite!

We are all envious at how easy it is for you to get an In-N-Out any time you want one! They have Five Guys out here and it's pretty marginal!

Looking forward to meeting you! :)

Ha I forgot to QUOTE to your last post. So I'll Quote this one and you can see that I replied above. Lol.

Wait...if I hit Reply, it probably tells you that you have a reply.... I still have to figure out these boards...

Oh that's great! We're from Costa Mesa so very near all those areas! My husband loves In-n-Out, but I'm not a huge fan. We have a five guys here too and I agree that it's marginal too! I haven't quite figured out the boards here either as far as the replies go!

We live in Costa Mesa. Our son is 8 and our daughter is 10. We'll definitely have to meet up with the kids!

Hi Guys, we booked this Cruise back in March last year as they got released. It will be our first Disney Cruise, Or any cruise at that.

Looking to join the FE group .

We wanted to do something special for our 3rd wedding anniversary.
In 2014 we stayed concierge in the RPR for 5 nights & then 10 nights in the AKLV concierge in a 1 bedroom DVC Villa.
Then last year we went to New York for a week, that was another item off the bucket list.

The Cruise will be another bucket list item then 4 weeks later I am running the DLRP Inaugural 1/2 Marathon, my 1st Run Disney Event & 1/2 Marathon, I waited years for this event.

It will be myself James & my wife Karen, I like anything Mickey & Karen is Tinkerbelle (could be a friend off)

We have cabin 6608

Welcome aboard!! I'm so glad we are getting more people to join the FE!! You will love the cruise! I'll add you to the list above.

Hi everyone!

New questions if anyone is so inclined to answer. :)

1) What shore excursions are you booking?
2) Has everyone set a date for Barcelona arrival? (I read some are August 18 like us)
3) Has anyone got any recommendations for hotels? Still considering AirBnB...

Is it August yet?

Hi, we found it really hard to pick excursions because there's just so much to see and no way enough time to do it all, even though we're also onboard the week before. So we've booked the Amalfi coast boat trip with Sorrento from Naples and Florence on your own, we've booked a time slot to see David and we're going to try and put together a plan from other walking tours I've found online. We're giving Rome a miss because we've stayed there before so are going to look round Civitavecchia and the same in Villefranche.

We're staying at the Eurostars Grand Marina because the Disney affiliated hotels were way too expensive.

p.s. Love the photo of your girls with Mickey! :)

We have booked private cars at each port in Italy. We want to go see my grandfather's birthplace in one, so we had to customize to make it work. We are using Rome In Limo. Got very good reviews from a good friend of ours. Not sure about France yet. We are staying at the Ohla Hotel. We had to find a place that didn't allow pets since our son is very allergic and asthmatic. We don't want to end up in the ER in a different country if we can help it!

We are arriving on the Wed 17th, so have 3 nights to explore,, Universal Hotel Barcelona. Walking distance to the port I think.
I will be trying to book Disney Excursions if there's any left when my booking window opens.
Anyone in the CC Club & have checked in already?

The only excursion I've seen that's all booked up is one of the private car options for Rome, I think it was. Everything else was open.

We're CC Club members (silver, one cruise under our belt) and we've already booked a few excursions. We have this so far:

* Sorrento/Pompeii (because adding Sorrento was $20 more than the half day Pompeii so why not!). This is for the four of us only. Mom-in-Law can't do cobblestones and told us to go on without her. (Gah!)

* Hubby Kent and Maddy (oldest/16) are going into Rome and doing the Catacombs/Colosseum/St. Peter's Basilica tour. Kara (9) and Barb (grandma) and I will just check out Civitavecchia a bit and hang out on the ship. I'm not invested in going to Rome...I'll get Sorrento and Florence and that's what matters most to me. (My mom was born and raised in Trieste, Italy, and I've been many times before, so I'm fine skipping Rome.)

* Both girls (Kara and Maddy) are going with me to do Florence Your Way...if it weren't for the thought of the ship leaving without us because of some train issue, I would just take the train into Florence! But I can see a rail strike or some issue with the track, and the ship leaving without us, so a Disney excursion it is--even though the train would get us there in half the time. (sigh.) I spent a summer in Florence so I'm taking my girls to my favorite places. Kent and Barb (his Mom) are doing Easy Pisa, since it's wheelchair-friendly.

* Villefranche - we decided to skip the excursions and just walk the town, maybe go to the beach. Maddy wants to practice her French and buy a baguette. Lol. I also found that on Thursdays (when we're there) or "any time there's a cruise ship in town" there is a market set up in Villefranche with hand-made crafts. If you're interested in a guide published by their tourist agency, it's here: Villefranche Guide. This is the Villefranche Tourist Office Website. There are three bakeries, a soap maker's, the beach, restaurants, some tourist shops for souvenirs, clothes shops, and plenty of pretty views.

We've spent hours going over all the details today...but somehow every day, the decisions change a little and we decide to do something different. But I think the above is pretty solid at this point, excepting Easy Pisa, since Barb won't know how well she'll feel/how mobile she'll be until we get on the ship. Sometimes she's fine, others not so much.

Okay, that's about it for me. I really, really wish I felt better about that train to Florence. :( I just don't feel I can risk it. Darn!

Hi

I have chosen the top 3 excursions I think my wife would tolerate (lol) from each of the 4 ports & will have a final chat before my date opens up next week. Detailed below with my preference in bold but Rome is difficult as there's a couple I would gladly do

I don't want to spend all day every day away from the ship as I know there's plenty to do on there too,, quite interested in the wine/gin/vodka/whiskey tastings

Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri - Adult Only Departure (NP33)

Hi again everyone! We're coming from England so not as far as everyone else by the sounds of it!
So far we've decided to visit Pompeii and that's it as we have our 2 year old with us and wanted to limit coach travel as much as possible!
We're arriving into Bsrcelona on the 19th and still looking for hotels (if anyone has any suggestions).
It's our first cruise so just wondering if you can just get off and walk around in the ports?
Thanks!

Hi again

I managed to get the port adventures, Palo & a Spa treatment I was looking for & a PAT of 11:30 which can't be too bad.
Just need to find out what I need to book once on board, like wine tasting & anything else

Anyone else got any experience of embarkation day,, the time line & what we should do or not do with the precious little time we have.

Plus is the 1st post up to date with the guys wanting to do the FE, as the MRS wants to know how many we may have? I know we don't close the group till closer the sailing

Cheers

James
