You are exactly right, kmiles! Most people fail to make the distinction, though, and assume that "sushi" means raw fish. There are actually many different kinds of sushi, and nigiri-sushi is the one with raw fish. On it's own, the sliced fish is called "sashimi".

We served maki-sushi, which contains vegetables rolled inside the rice and seaweed, inari-sushi, which is actually seasoned bean-curd pouches filled with vinegared rice, nigiri sushi (with the raw fish topping) and sashimi slices of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and broiled eel. We even served just the vinegared rice, formed into pretty shapes with nothing else added!

Gotta say, the "sushi" on DCL just doesn't cut it for us! :D

Arlene

Cool! I'm not much of a cook but at least I can say I learn when I read up on the subject! :)

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in the DCL "sushi" as well. The selection was very limited and what they did have, well, just wasn't all that good, IMHO.

Arlene, it sounds like you would be more than qualified to become the next Sushi Chef for DCL!

I'm curious about something. I just noticed that the 10 Day Holiday thread has over 24,000+ posts!!! We haven't even topped 8,000 yet. Even considering the fact that they started there thread much sooner than we did, how did they reach such high post counts???

Talk about a lot of sore fingers and worn out keyboards! :)

Fear not!! We have Melinda on our side. She can come up with enough drivel to fill 50,000 posts in 8 months...and now that she has "mastered" the art of picture adding to posts, there will be no stopping her!!!

Speaking of drivel, we did have a nice visit to AK today with Gassmandy. Since the trip included two of those God awful fold up strollers to get from the parking lot to the park, one of my SILs and I decided to walk instead of taking the tram, and thus avoid the folding-loading-unloading-unfolding of those strollers. Well, somewhere along the way, we managed to loose one of my Granddaughers sacred "blankie" that she can't live without. The loss was not discovered until we were well within the park. Mary back tracked to see if she could find it. No luck! Needless to say, my SIL was in deep do do. I, as the patriarch of the group, have reached the point of being beyond criticism!! (Except in Mary's eyes!!) Luckily, My GD was unaware of her missing treasure! Anyway, the kids got tired so we left, expecting the first post "blankie" tantrum at anytime. As we were walking back to the cars, voila, there neatly folded sitting on top of the last trash can, at the very last kiosk just before the walk to the parking lot, was the "blankie"!! The males of the group were ecstatic, having possibly avoided a full night of "The Bickerson's" treatment. Mary, with her super concern for sanitation, exclamed "Yuck, that blanket's been sitting on a trash can...to which my daughter exclaimed, "I don't care if someone wiped their butt with it, at least we have the blanket!" The child was last seen contently clutching her putrid "blankie"

As a mother, all I can say is "ppphhheeewwww". I wouldn't have wanted to be around once the child realized the blankie was missing, no sir, not me!

uh Sorry Bob, can't count on me for lotta posts!! I start back in the work force tomorrow!! My Bob wants me to make $$$ and sitting here and posts aint' going to cut it!!!

So glad you found the blankie!! my DS has a "nankie" too and will freak if he ever lost it forever!! We did lost one time at Pizza Hut and thought it was gone forever...you are so lucky to have that person folded and put it on top of trash...at least it went on top, instead of in it!! Must have been a MOM i am sure!!! What would a VULTURE would do with it, i wonder!! LOL!!!

Wtg Izzinmac!!!!
Figures the "wife" goes and looks and can't find the darn thing, you have a leisurely walk around and there it is!!! Good going Bob. You've done the guys proud. Probably some good SAMaratin (as in a guy) found it and just placed it up there figuring someone would be looking for it. Tell Mary to look up next time. God she is lucky to have you Bob!!!

Cheers,
Grumbo

Your'e absolutely right, Grumbo!! The women just can't comprehend what a burden it is to be a man in this world! I tried to point this out to Mary, especially when I found out she only back tracked to the bridge in AK, and didn't walk all the way back to the car! Of course, she tried to deflect, saying something silly like it never would have happened if the women would have been pushing the strollers! What kind of logic is that!! Good thing it was us guys doing the recon work on the way back to the car! I think we may have been lucky that that cute blond was standing near the trash can. Helped us focus on the "treasure"

Oh, BTW Grumbo, I think Mary wants to "discuss" this with you in August! I probably won't be available during that discussion!!! I'll be the guy walking around clutching my "blankie"!

Update on the wine tasting list. We're going to have a lot of wine to drink!!

Tracy

Hi Tracy!
Could you add DW and myself to the list? Anybody have any preferences on flavors of "2 Buck Chuck"?

Bob, congrats on finding The Blanket. I have a DD11 who still goes into a tizzie when she can't find a particular stuffed bear.

Welcome back Paul and Andrew! Hope you both had lovely holidays with your families! Paul, I saw a photo of your pretty wife on one of the 10 day trip reports, so where are you?!

I was hiding from the shame I had to endure from the pirate costume my DW made me wear!

I look forward to speaking with her. I'll be with my wife Melinda. She'll be the one blathering on about how I'm not looking after the kids properly as they fall down while playing portable video games. Of course while I'm out with the kids, she is on one of 20 bulletin boards she frequents. Just let Mary know I go by the name of "Bob" (my real name).

Cheers,
Grumbo

:D Well, winotracy, add Jazzman and me to your list. We don't care much for wine, but we don't want to miss all the fun. We'll let Grumbo, Mark and Izzinmac drink our leftovers! There is a local winery that makes very nice wines (at least our wino friends tell us they are good), so perhaps we can bring a bottle from there.

Jazzman is very excited about the pirate costumes! pirate:

Count Doris and me in as well as my parents and our friends. They are all winos.
I'll look for a cheeky little wine from Ontario, from the shady side of the basement ;)

Cheers,
Grumbo

Good one, Grumbo (Bob)

I think I got Mary fooled on this one. With a little quick work, I was able to show her "your" picture from Jason's site (Had to drag and drop it without names - thank you Apple!) She fell for it - had a little trouble explaining why a Canadian was standing with two old folks that were holding a US flag! Anyway, she now knows what "you" look like Grumbo (Bob)!

I do feel a little bad for the real other Bob. When Melinda was planning the "Live from the Magic and Wonder" scheme, I talked to Bob and he seems like a nice, smart guy.(Well, except for one major decision). But, I think he will be able to handle this one- he can plead ignorance for a while, and then Melinda will join in, and between her and Mary they will get the whole thing so bungled that no one will know what's going on!

We just need to decide on a spot from which to observe all this!

:cat:

Very belated Happy New Year! We had a lovely dinner out with friends and then went to their house for dessert and Champagne. We have a local quarry where they teach diving. And on New Years' eve someone had a major party there. Including fireworks. They were spectacular. Real professional ones ariel mostly. We stood on our friends' front porch and enjoyed them. Didn't even need a jacket. Lasted about 15 to 20 minutes.
Melinda-- never go to Times Square. No matter what the weather is like. One of our eldests' friends went a couple of years ago. They herd you into an area like a cattle shoot and you can NOT leave. No matter what, including going to the bathroom! They pack you in like sardines and I'm sure there are plenty of folks looking to steal purses and wallets.

Thanks so much for the info on Sushi. Like most people I suspect I thought it meant raw fish. Seems there are several kinds that I would like. The raw fish concept has never done anything for me.

Bob you have no idea how lucky you were you found that blankie. Our youngest took hers to college with her. She used it as a cover for the chair in front of her computer. Of course she also took her Super Grover. He came back from England with her, her freshman year in high school. Recently she gave him to her 14 year old niece after she had her appendix removed. She spent the next four days clutching him. So you see blankies and stuffies are extremely important.

Everyone have a good day back at work tomorrow. :rolleyes1: And Melinda enjoy your first day back in the rat race.

Estelle :flower1:

Welcome home Janet!

You have to tell us all about your trip. How was the Grand Floridian?

I've heard a lot of good things about the Kongaloosh! What's in it?
