Glad to see you are on the mend Barbara!

This has been a tough month for everybody, and it looks like Florida is in the firing line again. Best wishes to all in the path of the storm; please be careful.

We've had a bit of attrition in the past month - the headcount is down to 425 currently.

As always, pulling for Sophie, Lynda, and family.

The recent issue of DISNEY INSIDER talked about the fireworks at Disneyland that are shot off with air not black powder. Included in the article at:
http://disney.go.com/inside/issues/stories/v040831.html

is:

However, this beautiful moment is just a taste of what the air-launch technology can produce. This summer's show is being used as a "test run" to put the new system through its paces and according to Hollingsworth, "We haven't begun to touch on the creative possibilities this opens up."

Those possibilities will be fully explored in summer 2005, as Disneyland celebrates its 50th anniversary with a lavish birthday fireworks extravaganza. Hollingsworth won't reveal any details of the anniversary spectacular, but he does promise that "all I can say is I think it will be an outstanding show."

Sounds like you are in for a good show if you are staying at Disneyland before the cruise.

I was staying at the Paradise Pier on Friday, July 30. At 2:00 am (Saturday) Disneyland tested new fireworks for about an hour. It was beautiful! I can't wait to see the real thing!

Latest projection for our friend Francis shows some weakening and landfall a little south of Vero. Sure would be nice to see it weaken more.

After much heming and hawing, our group decided not to evacuate. We aren't in the mandatory evacuation area, and we were encouraged not to evacuate, but prepare our homes and stay put. Really no place to go anyway, and the roads are packed!

We are all boarded up and will proabably gather in my one daughters house, which is new and built to the latest hurricane standards. Right now the weather is beautiful. The proverbial calm before the storm. We are having a big BBQ this afternoon to use up our freezer meat. Better than throwing it away if we loose power.

Even with this going on, still think a lot about Lynda and Mike and Sophie and David. Hope things are getting a little better for them!

Pray for this thing to get weaker. Probably not much chance for it to miss Florida now!

Signing off from sunny (soon to be windy) Florida!

Bob, I hope you and your family all the best despite what is coming. Hopefully it will continue to decrease in intensity.

Best of luck and prayers to izzinmac and family and to Floridians and all in Frances' path. Wishing you safety and no damage to your homes, as well as courage to weather the hurricane. Thank you Jazz, Paul, and everyone here for the good wishes, I appreciate it! We also continue to think of and pray for Sophie , Lynda, and family. Their loss is incomprehensible.

Disney wishes and prayers to all,

Barbara

izzinmac - Good luck and keep us posted. We're hoping for the best for all you Floridians!

Update on Sophie9/03/04
Hello to our DIS Family,

1st and foremost, God bless you all.

We met with Dr Howard today to discuss Sophie's current condition and courses of action as time presses on. As of now Sophie’s physical condition continues to improve, the burns on her little face and fingers continue to heal. Sophie possesses (sp) a strong heart and her sinus rhythms are good. Heart rate, BP are good. The ventilator is still assisting her though when it comes to her breathing. Even though she does initiate breaths on her own and does take some breathes above the ventilator, the effectiveness of those breathes are still being evaluated. In other words are her breaths going to sustain her if the ventilator is removed. That’s the physical side; the mental is quite a different story. While Sophie does have some brain functioning, there are huge questions as to whether she will be able have those functions, which allow each of us to be, who we are and to enjoy, in some capacity, what life has to offer. "Quality of Life" is the burning question we struggle to answer each day. I know this does not sound good, however there is still hope. Since Sophie is so young there is a possibility the functioning part of her brain will assume some of these "higher" functions, allowing her to have some kind of life. This is the part of Sophie’s recovery that is in God's hands and this is the miracle we pray for. Even Dr Howard said we can give Sophie time to receive her miracle. So when we say our prayers this day and everyday we ask God for this miracle, if it be His will, but understand if his plan for Sophie and us is different.

Again to all our DIS family we say THANK YOU for your continuing love, support, and prayers for Sophie and we continue to pray for all of you.

God bless you all

Mike

I thought you would all want to know.

Thanks Jan for the update on Sophie. We are praying that things look up for her and her family.

Did you all see the Magic docked in Galvestan ? They go to see a totally new port. And just think they didn't need passports or birth certificates. And they don't have to put their purchases on their declarations. Sort of like Key West only bigger.
Been watching the Weather Channel today. Winds and water really picking up. Praying that everyone down there is safe and in a secure place. Lots of Pixie Dust to all down there.
Later. Estelle

With the passing hurricane, I tried to find a map of Castaway Cay(formally Gorda Cay). It's amazing how insignificant the cay is in relation to the other islands around. Gorda Cay is near the bottom.

Here's a larger shot. It's just left of Great Abaco

Mark,
Thanks for the map. I hope everyone in Florida is safe. Continuing my prayers for Sophie and family as well as a speedy recovery for Barbara. We were supposed to be in WDW this weekend and I can't believe my eyes when I watch the Weather Channel. It's incredible what Mother Nature will do.

Lynn, did you cancel your flight and hotel reservations without a problem?

Prayers for all who are being affected by Frances. Sorry you had to cancel your trip Lynn, hope the cancellations went well for you. Barbara (msodancer) said one of her good friends had to cancel her trip and I thought it might be you. Hope you had some other good fun with your family. Thanks too for the good wishes, I now need to get out and start walking to build strength, that is good. :)

Thanks for the map Mark.

As always, pixie dust to all, and prayers for little Sophie and her family.

Barbara

Just checking in to see how our Florida people are doing with Frances. Stay safe!

We are partially moved in. The movers come Thursday for the furniture.

We just arrived home yesterday afternoon. I was able to reschedule our flight time home. We left out of Tampa @ 6:00 am. My DD slept on the floor of the Tampa airport while DH and myself played cards to pass the time away. The drive to Tampa was fine and getting gas for the rental car was no problem. The Tampa airport closed a few hours later.

My Sister and her family are in OKW waiting out the storm. They could not get out of Orlando before the airport shut down. They are scheduled to fly out tomorrow @ 11:00 am (we'll see). Our DVC membership saved them! We were able to get them a studio for the 3 nights they needed. I hope they don't need another night. Sounds like everything is fine. Resorts were with power. Guest services kept guests informed. They are just bored!!! Their 2 boys are supposed to start school on Tuesday!

I kept reminding DH that we have the Panama Canal Cruise scheduled for this same time frame next year. He told me to pay another $1000 towards the cruise because we are going! I will make a payment later this week. We both said we would rather be on a cruise ship than on land during a hurricane. At least the cruise ships can try to get you out of the path of the hurricane. If you are on land you are stuck!

My thoughts and prayers are with all Floridians and those that still might be affected by Hurricane Francis. Those affected by Hurricane Charley. Hopefully Hurricane Ivan will not amount to anything!

Still thinking and praying for Sophie!

Wow! This has been a tough month! My DD age 7 came home and started planning what she wants to bring to WDW during our December trip. To be young, optimistic and without worries!

Glad to be home!

Roxanne - Glad you made it out of there ok! We'll have to have another DIS meet so you can tell us all the details!

Paul
