August 1st 2009 - Eastern 8/1/2009 The Eastern Caribbean Castaways

Helen -- no worries! Icing/cake talk doesn't bother me at all. A small thread I'm on was posting PICTURES of cupcakes and talking about them for days... just to taunt me! and I made it through that.

Walking this week has definitely helped some, though I was up on the scale today -- I think because I'm taking antibiotics.

Okay -- so we know we have a meet at 3 the first afternoon, and a special Palo dinner that Helen is working on. Did we decide if we are doing FE's or anything else? Baseball and soccer are both about to ramp up here, and I won't have much time at night or weekends to work on these things, so I'm slowly trying to get stuff done.

Have a good weekend everyone! :)

Hi Marci,

I am so looking forward to this cruise.

I am hoping to book some alone time in the spa. I loved it the last time I did this.

I am also going to make some door signs.

I am unsure what excusions to book on St Thomas this is something I need to look into.:rolleyes1

I'm really looking forward to this, too!

For those who want door signs, there are some really cool other dis-ers who have offered to make all sort of graphics. :worship: I just purchased my magnet paper!

Marci, congratulations and feel better! I think that Helen suggested doing a gift bag exchange at our meet. Barbara and I were interested in FE's if that works for you. Barbara was suggesting (if we don't pick up others who are interested) that her two kids could each take a day, my two could each take a day - and maybe a day each for yours? Would that be fair, appropriate? I mean, we don't yet know if we'll be adding others, if that happens, we can bring it back to one day per cabin, or some such thing.

I've never done FE's and I think the idea is pretty cool - I admit that I dread taking the extra stuff, but since I'm free in the summer, I'm thinking I can ship my FE items and magnets and just cope that way. However, after reading the FE threads, I feel woefully uncreative and unprepared. Ah well. Let me know if my babbling doesn't make sense. Snow day here, and I'm kinda bummed. It's been nice, but now I have an extra day at the end of the year, and that's a bummer.:sad2:

I would love spa time, but I may not get to this trip. It will depend on the economy and how the company is doing I help run. If I don't get to the spa, it won't be the end of the world... but it would be nice! Randy and I did the spa villa's on our last 7 night, and loved it.

I also have to work on excursions...

Yes -- I'm in on FEs. We've never done them, and I work a long work week, so I'm not sure how creative I can get, but I'll give it a shot.

Yes -- the DIScreations board is very neat. I'm a regular on the original chat thread that started that board, although I don't have the ability to create things myself, I've had people help me with some ideas.

I've seen some really neat fish extenders on e-bay. I'm pretty handy but I don't have a machine that does embriodery....

This month is insane at our house. I'm directing Miracle Worker which rehearses 6-9 Monday-Fri. Both kids have small roles. Bennett is also in a production of Willy Wonka through his musical theatre school. THAT rehearses 5:30-9 on Tues, Wed, Fri and Sun afternoons. Dinners are going to have to be early and easy....and healthy. I have 20 pounds to lose before we cruise.

I've been doing weight watchers for awhile but not being very observant at it. I'm really kicking it up now and actually lost 3.4 pounds last week!!! I don't expect to see that regularly but I'm really hoping to bit in a smaller dress by August!

Hooray - it is Friday! Next week is my spring break. Now, I still have rehearsal and my house is TRASHED but at least it is SOME sort of vacation!

Down another .8 pounds this week!

I'm on break this week - so far the bathroom is nice and clean! I'm on the bedroom today.

I've been listening to Disney podcasts while I clean to help the time go by!

Well Im getting excited for this holiday.

Yesterday I organised a town car to pick us up at SSR to take us to the cruise. I'm going to try a different company this year (Southern Elegance) so hopefully they will be ok.

I also organised a hotel with airport parking for the night before we leave the UK.

I'm working my way down my tick list of things to do.

The next big thing I want to sort out this weekend is filling in the ESTA -So that we'll be allowed to fly to the states!

Its Dave's birthday today - we'll be going out tonight for a meal - just at our local pub. I'll try and make a good choice . - you are inspiring me with your weight loss.

Take care
and have a great day xx

Ours is next week. Due to the economy and problems at work with clients cancelling trainings, we cancelled our short ski trip. I hope to enjoy some nice weather and take the kids to the zoo, museum etc. while working some. It will be nice to slow down.

Happy birthday to your hubby! party: Dave's (ScubaD's) birthday is next week on the 19th.

It sounds like you've gotten a lot of planning done! Good for you!! We have friends who moved to Florida around the Port Canaveral area a couple of years ago. They graciously offered to pick us up at the airport, let us stay with them the night before the cruise, then take us back to the airport after the cruise. They're the best!! :goodvibes

You are making me jealous. Mine isn't until April 6. But at least it is coming. I'm dreading next week. State testing. Ugh.

I'm looking for a shuttle to take us from MCO to the port. I took the Disney bus last time and didn't really enjoy the experience. I've read about SE, and may use them too.

Hi Guys

Just to give you an update. I had a telephone call from DCL today.

We had a couple of people withdraw so I actually only have 10 people confirmed.

At present The lady I spoke to said she was unable to process the request as it needs to be a minimum of 12 people with a max of 14.

I was wondering is there anyone else who would like to join us???

I have 4 spaces - *but really only need to fill 2 more

Please PM me if you can help us out

Many Thanks

Helen xx

PS hubby says thankyou for birthday wishes;)

Back to ticking things off my list

I have just called DVC member services and arranged our two sets of magical express reservations.

I get all giddy on the phone and excited when I hear an American accent lol:rotfl:

My other dis friends say I type with a British accent -can you tell?

Helen - I can't "hear" British from your typing - but after we meet I bet I will!

And come on folks - 2 more for brunch!!!!!

Oh gosh! I would love to have brunch with you, but I had originally planned to do a Palo brunch with our whole gang. (6 adults) I'll try to float the idea around our group and see if I can make something work. :confused3

Helen, I feel _Exactly_ the same way when I hear nearly any foreign accent. I got so excited when I was talking to the reservationist in St. Thomas. And, if when we meet, I start to talk in a fake British accent, _Please forgive me. I have a really nasty habit of repeating what I hear. In no way would I intend to mock you!

And Barbara may be correct, I don't find you overly British on the board, but once I've heard you, I'm sure I'll "hear" you when I read your writing!

Hello Dave and Helen,

Several years ago I had the great joy of working in Leicester (sp?) and loved the countryside. The best part was when the locals heard us Americans taiking would come over and want to talk to us because they loved our accent. And we enjoyed thier/your accent so we were all happy. We also visited Birmingham, Coventry, and of course London. You have a beautiful country and I want to get Kim (disneymom8589) over there to visit. Just don't tell her or I will be committed to doing it.

Now for all, we will be vacationing in New York during Spring Break. Have you been there, and what restaurant/activities would you recommend. We will do Serendipity (Kim's favorite movie) for the frozen hot chocolate:thumbsup2 and hopefully Regis and Kelly.

See you in a few months.

Dave

If the weather is good and you decide to try TKS for last minute theatre tickets, you can often get good deals. Also if you want a restaurant in the theatre district, we are very fond of Joe Allen's - you can google them. We've eaten there many times and been happy. Reservations recommended - as with everything in NYC.

I would say that a walk through Central Park is an absolute must. Beyond that, shopping and activities are largely dependent on what you like to do.
