August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

:welcome: :welcome:

Hello I am Amy and single mom to DD (11) and DD (9). We're from Toronto, Canada. We booked Cat 12 gty and just found out that we are currently upgraded to room 2606 (Cat 9). I am cautiously excited :cool1: but I am keeping this from the kids since I know things can change. I didn't expect to be upgraded since we are 2nd time cruisers and a party of 3. Let's hope this holds.

We have 3 more ports to plan - Tunis, Naples and Rome. I will probably get a private tour for Rome. Nothing at Tunis jumps out at me - maybe something that include Si Bou Said (sp?). Naples - Pompeii is interesting and so is Mt Vesuvius although I don't know whether both are too much of a workout for them.

I hope dds can make some friends this trip. Last time we were seated at dinner with 2 college students and their mom and my girls were a little disappointed that they weren't their age.

I am looking forward to meeting this group. If anyone know whether I need to register somewhere do let me know. I am sure this info in one of the 120 something pages - just wish I have time to read them all.

Hi 3girlycruiselovers! Welcome to the boards!!! :thumbsup2 (And the cruise! :woohoo:) We are from Ottawa and are super excited for this cruise!

Hi

Hope you had a good day for 4th July.

We are not following the football anymore, now England are out in such a disasterous way, I think we want to all forget it is our national game!!! I notice that all the flags have been taken down and there are none on the cars now, the England noveltys in the supermarket are all at half price!!!!

I haven't heard from my friends and I don't really want to pester them, in case they haven't managed to get it booked, it would have been such fun too.

Just completed Day 3 of Week 2 and feeling OK. Shouldn't be running until tomorrow, but thought it best to get it out of the way tonight, as it is forecast hot, hot, hot again tomorrow.

Rain held off for Barbecue. Had a lovely afternoon, playing croquet on the lawn - I felt like I was in Alice in Wonderland!!

Vicky, we feel the same about an inside room, our dd sleeps for ages in an inside, especially when she was very little, and even now she can be persuaded to go back to sleep if it is dark enought. However, now she can tell the time a little bit, that trick may be limited!

I don't know if anyone is doing a FE list, but if not, I don't mind putting one together, it doesn't look like it would be very big. Let me know if you would like me to do it, I don't want to step on anyones toes!!!

Hi Amy, we were impressed with Disneys seating in June, we were originally put on a table with another couple with a little girl the same age as ours, however, we linked up with a family on our meet thread, once we had met them, which was lovely as their girls were great with our dd. We did invite the original couple to join us too, as we enjoyed their company, but they obviously decided not to, which was a bit of a shame, but our table was great. We also had some lovely servers and I think we may ask for them again, which I didn't know you could do.

I too am cautious about the room upgrade, I had another look today just to check and it is still there! I think it would be really mean to take it away again, but I wouldn't moan if it went up another one!!!

Still not decided what to do in Tunis, I need to do some research. Would like to go to the markets, but not sure the best way to do it. Anyone done any indepth research on Tunis or know the cost of taxis?

Well I am thinking of going to bed shortly and you will all be signing on!!

Kate

Hi Kate! We are also being cautious about the room upgrades. Keeping our fingers crossed that the upgrade stays! :cool1: In Tunis we decided to take the DLC excursion-Sidi Bou Said and Carthage tour. DS and I really wanted to see Carthage and Sidi Bou Said looks very pretty and interesting. There have been some good trip reports to look at. We weren't really keen to go into the Medina, it seems to busy and aggresive for us. :rolleyes1

Welcome to the board. We have plenty of 9 and 11 year old girls in the group. If you find one of Pixie08's posts, she has a link to a website that she created for the cruise. A bunch of us have our information up there and you can see the ages of the other kids. She will add you to if you send the info.:cool1::cool1:

Had to stop with the running program, I started getting pains in my calves and knees yesterday, so I think I have to walk for a bit...don't want to get shin splints or my knees to go out.

I just found out the my son and I were upgraded from a Category 11 to a Category 7 (which has a verandah). I am more than excited!!! We've had an inside statement and a large porthole, but never a verandah! Too bad we have such a full itinerary and only a few days to enjoy the verandah.

Have a great 4th of July holiday everyone!

Sorry to hear that Mindy! day 1 week 3 tomorrow in the AM, hopefully I don't die in the heat!!!!

Hi K8,

We would love to be on your fish extender list - yes please:-) We haven't done it before so I'm not sure which details you want to know? Will be very glad my little one can't quite read the time yet.

Take Care

Hi there

Great, I will get a list going, I need your Room Number, ideally your real names (although if you don't want to give this, as it will be on the board, then don't worry!, along with the age/s of the child in the room - this helps give an idea of the sort of gift. I have added you with the info. I know, but wasn't sure if you had a OH going with you!

Anyone else who wants to go on, please let me know, or PM me. On the last trip, we had about 20 cabins (adults) and 8 children!! I personally did one drop for the adults and then a couple of smaller ones for the children, so it wasn't too time consuming. Most people do just one visit. My dd and I enjoyed wandering the corridors and seeing the decorated doors and FE's. We gave pencils, magnets, chocolate etc.

Mindy, sorry to hear about your legs, I too wondered about your shoes, but it is probably best not to risk anything before going away. How is your daughter?

Best of luck with Week 3, I am excited to getting to do it tomorrow, let me know how it goes. Went for a 'brisk' walk with the dogs this morning and wasn't 'out of puff' once :thumbsup2

Will sort out the list in another post and then I can update it. Fully understand anyone who doesn't want to take part - no worries!;)

Kate

I think it would be a good idea to keep it open until a week or two before we cruise, as some people may be leaving for Barcelona then and it gives time to get things together. I will send everyone a final list at that time, although it shouldn't differ from this one.

If you intend upgrading, we can use your current cabin assignment and then find out any changes at the Meet on the second sea day, or they can be posted on our door, for others to check.

Kate

What kind/how old are your shoes?

I have to get new ones, I just am confused as to which ones to get. I think more of the problem is that I shouldn't be running yet at my weight...I should probably get my legs stronger by walking first. I have been doing the program for these last two weeks and I've done it at least every other day - so I'll continue walking at least that much as well.

Hi there

Mindy, sorry to hear about your legs, I too wondered about your shoes, but it is probably best not to risk anything before going away. How is your daughter?

Kate

My daughter has seemed okay. No motrin at all yesterday. Thanks for asking. Do shoes make that much of a difference?

Watched my neighbor's house burn to the ground the night before last....we had to evacuate we were so close. We walked around like zombies yesterday we were so tired all day. It as a "fun" 4th of July.

Hi K8,

Here are the details

I'm Vicky as you know, my daughter is called Elizabeth - she'll be almost 3, and we have a friend of mine going with us - Helen. We're all in room 2641.

Very excited about this - am going to start to make my Fish Extender tonight.

I've missed so much by not coming to the boards consistently. I didn't realize we were doing FEs! I LOVE doing this! Please add my name (Stacey) and my son, Stephen, who is 16. Room 6136. Please, please, please let's keep this fish extender exchange going. On my last Disney cruise, someone started the fish extender names, but it went nowhere and I ended up with a TON of gifts and no one to give them to. I had never received a list of people prior to the cruise.

Kate - When will you be giving us the names so we can buy/make age-appropriate items?

Mindy - Sorry to hear your running isn't going as you want it. Better to slow it down so you don't have permanent damage Shin splints REALLY hurt!

Take care!

Hi Amy.
I am also from Toronto and am travelling with my DD(11) we are doing a couple of private tours -- the one in Rome is through romeinlimo and is kid friendly. In Naples, we are doing a private tour that involves Pompeii, Hurculaneum and Vesuvius with a private guide for the sites. In Tunisia, we are doing the family-friendly disney excursion where you get to make a mosaic. What part of the city are you from? We are in Leaside. Send me a private message if you think the girls might like to email before the cruise or if you would like more details on the tours -- you'd be welcome to share with us.

Ok FE will be on page 133, if it gets too far behind (likley with the amount of chat that goes on here!), then I will move it forward.

OMG:eek: I can't think of anything worse, how are they?, was everyone all right? What started it? It must be such a shock, you know fire is one of my worst fears, I am always going over how I would get out, what I would grab etc.- maybe I am just neurotic!!;)

Running shoes can make a huge difference, not having the right support in the right places. It is a bit of a minefield though buyng new ones, there are just so many, a specialist shop should be able to help, but you need a pair specificallly for running in, rather than just a general purpose one - not that I am an expert, just learnt through experience - and pain!

I am using my old one, just going to revamp it a bit, none of you has seen it before, I did make the mistake of putting a pocket for both of us, when really I should have done one for us and one for DD, maybe I will 're-do' that.

I've missed so much by not coming to the boards consistently. I didn't realize we were doing FEs! I LOVE doing this! Please add my name (Stacey) and my son, Stephen, who is 16. Room 6136. Stacey, What a shame about your last FE, you haven't missed anything, it only started today!!!

I WILL definately complete the list, on our last cruise the guy who kept it gave us a beautiful list, with a ship plan and the cabins all circled on each floor of the ship!!! I can't promise those lengths, but I will put them in room order. It was really easy to deliver, as the cabins are in a logical order. Ages and names will be on the list or DD or DS if people don't want to give names. Maybe you can recyle some of the gifts that you didn't give out!

The list will live on the page it is for now and I will move it forward as we get more posts, so you don't have to go searching for it.

Holy cow! How awful!

Shoes are very important! I go to Road Runner Sports and get my gait analyzed and get fitted for shoes. Google them ti see if there's one near you. Other running stores may do this as well. Worth looking into!

Hi K8,

Thanks so much for doing the Fish Extender list - am getting very excited now. Not long to go:-)

Hi Lisa, the disboard will not let me a private message until my message count is 10 which is going to take a while :sad1:

I live not far from you at all. We're in Deer Park (Yonge and St Clair) and Leaside is no more than 10 minutes drive from us. We do a lot of shopping there

My dds would love to correspond with your dd. They both have email accounts and love sending and receiving emails.

We may be interested in sharing Rome In Limo with you since we were planning to do the kids tour also but I haven't booked anything (the Rome Highlight and Vatican one) Not sure which kids tour you are going on. I am not sure about Naples (love to do Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius) especially knowing that Rome will be a long day and I signed them up for the climbing Pisa tower at La Spezia - not sure if all day Naples is too much.

Can you send me a private message instead (with your contact info)?

Thanks
Amy
