August 18, 2010...Can't wait for the MAGICal Mediterranean!!!

Hello Everyone,

I thought I would add something to the forum as my family and I are joining the 18th August cruise along with 4 other familes in one party, so 20 of us in total (9 Adults and 11 kids).

It looks like most of you are travelling much further than us. We are about 1.5 hours flying time from Barcelona. One of the party has been on a Disney Cruise before but the rest of us are virgins.

I am not sure we will be doing many excusions as we have been to many of the destinations before but I can highly recommend Pompeii coupled with a climb to the top of Vesuvius. The view over Naples Bay is fantastic.

It looks like a lot of fun and hopefully will see lots of you onboard next month.

Thanks

Christian

Welcome Christian - it seems the new folks are hopping to the board now. Some of us have been here for almost a year and for a while it seemed like noone else was going on our cruise. We're happy to see all that join.

Seems like I'm the only 15 year old girl going. Nevermind - I'm still very very excited to be going on the Magic. Only 43 days to gooo! :goodvibes

Superstar - I know this is no consolation, but my DD is 12. I know there is a big difference between 15 and 12..........

I think I have seen some 13 year old girls mentioned here. Still not 15 but getting closer. I haven't seen any 13 year old boys except my son though.

Well, they will all hang out in their clubs though and make friends I am sure. Last cruise, my 11 year old son came home with a 13 year old "girlfriend" from Australia. :scared1:
They still email and Facebook and even send cards to this day.

I hope he will be allowed to go into the Stack atleast once or twice even though the official age is 14.

To all the NY area ladies, my son is going to camp next week and I am going on girls trip to NYC. So far we have planned to see 2 shows, get our hair cut at a fancy salon (splurge), browse the fancy stores, shop at Canal St.

Any tips or ideas for other fun things to do and also good but cheap eats?
I know there are no MLB games that week due to the All-Star break.

We are staying in the Radio City area.

Thanks,
Shawn

Stacey, we are from Farmington. How are you guys flying?
I really need advice on tours. I am starting from zero and there is so much info... is there a good book or a website?

You can look at the Magic in the Med blog/videos that were done...should be a link on the dishome page.

or...some great trip reports on the trip report link on the main cruise page.

Welcome, by the way...

Good Afternoon / Good Morning!

Hi Merlin and welcome. Are you part of the group with KingCole? I saw a post from them that said they were in a large group on our cruise and from the UK.

Well busy day at work yesterday, searching the net for various trip reports etc., ;) Yet I still haven't a plan for Tunis yet! Malta, we have decided to take a cab to the Blue Grotto (early to beat the crowds) and then on over to the other side of the Island, as OH used to go there as a child and would like a trip down memory lane, then back to town I think for a wander around and a late lunch!

Superstar, I remember a while back you were interested in FE's, if you are, let me know and I am sure you will have checked with your parents before giving any info. out

Did my Week 3, Day 1 today, was honestly OK, last run a bit puffy, but running three minutes in one go!!! :cool1:

Speak to you all later.

Kate

K8T - I'm not sure yet if I will be able to do it. It will be my first time and I still need to convince my mom that it will be good fun. I'll let you know soon if I can or not :goodvibes

Hi Irene,

We live in Griswold (by the two casinos). My DS and I are departing Newark on August 16, flight #120 at 7:15 p.m. It's a direct flight into Barcelona. What are your travel plans?

We had the fortune of meeting up with a few of the fellow disers (namely Mindy, Kim and Lori). We're booked on tours with them in Rome and Florence / Pisa (company is limoinrome). Our other excursions were booked through the cruise line. I'm working on one now for a beach day in Villefrance.

Only advice I can give you is to keep reading these boards, along with cruisecritic dot com. These boards are a great resource!! And lots of friendly people willing to give you direction. :)

Stacey, since we're on the same flight, I just want to remind you that my kids do not know about the cruise (can you believe I've kept this secret for 20 months) so if we meet in the airport, it will just be kind of random if you know what I mean.

Mums the word on my end! I promise!:goodvibes

Irene- We would be interested in a tour of Rome and/or pompei. I was looking around a little-- we found a walking tour with a private guide in Rome for 300 euros, not including vatican/colliseum tickets (14 and 12 euro pp). We would meet the guide in Rome and take public transport and walk. They also said if we wanted a van it's an additional 340 euro which I think it a little steep consider the public transport is so easy- that includes pickup drop off at the port. We mainly wanted someone to give us info, guide us through the streets, and keep us on schedule to see everything!!!

A little about us--
We are in Germany-- Hubby is US military officer stationed in Germany. DH and I *both 27 y/o* with an infant (5 month DD). A little about us- we travel all the time. She has already been to Venice, Prague, Rothenburg, the Alps, Munich, Austria, Vicenza, etc. We do not use strollers, she is carried in an ergo carrier (front carry backpack thing). If you are interested, let us know, if not, I understand :) We have early dinner but don't mind missing it or being late. That is what the buffet is for. LOL.

ADSMAMA- how many people does your tour include? I was hoping to maybe get one with a driver. Are there 3 of you? If so, maybe we can figure out how to split a private tour? I am concerned about walking in the heat that is why I am researching more of a driving option, the kids will melt down otherwise.
Do you have ideas on the other ports yet?

Hi everyone...just wanted to let everyone know I posted info on the website about the dis meet. It will take place on the first sea day (Thursday) in the Promenade lounge on Deck 3. It will be a casual open meet. It will begin at 12:15 pm and probably go until 1:00 pm (or until everyone leaves:rotfl:). Everyone is welcome!

If there is an art of entertaining series that day I am thinking it is going to be at 1:00 pm and Dan and I are probably going to sign up. Most likely a wine or beer tasting will be going on around that time as well. Some people may want to get groups together and go the events together if anyone is interested in attending.

Pixie08,
thanks for posting our photo to the site. We're looking forward to meeting everyone.
