This years plans are starting to fall in to place
got a really good deal on flights and was able to get the Beach Club villas at the 7 month window yesterday
and we have our AP's from last year so no need to worry about tickets
put a depoist down on a 4 day cruise too but not to sure if we will do that or not yet , trying to keep the cost down or the big one next year

so not a question of the week but whats your plans for this year ?

Whew! FL in July/Aug? Hot or not.....I'm jealous! No WDW plans this year for us, but I am counting down to Disneyland in something like 57 days! I haven't yet told DD, and I don't think I'm going to. We're flying from here down to LA, and my dad's meeting us down there and picking us up. Not only do I not want to her "are we leaving yet" for the next 2 months, I think that the DL experience is so different that I don't want her to get a pre-formed idea that it is anything like WDW.

So other that DL and the subsequent visit back to the Bay Area (originally from there), we're going to go to North Carolina in August. I have some family there that want to take DD own their own for a bit, so DH and I are going to drive the North and South Carolina coastline a bit. I've not spent much time down there, so I'm interested to explore Charleston and possibly Savannah. In addition, one of my best friends lives in Raleigh, and we're going to go visit with them a bit.

All other travels this year will be dependent on how much I work. I work as a nurse per-diem, and usually work 8-ish shifts per month. I've only been scheduled 3 shifts for Jan and Feb, as my boss hired a boat-load of people, and now there's very little to be had. So.....either I suck it up and wait for the eventual attrition, or I look for something else in addition. Not sure yet. If it weren't for that large cruise to pay for, I wouldn't even stress about it. Sigh...it all eventually works out in the end!

Speaking of the cruise, I got a DVD from the library the other day...an Italian instructive DVD aimed at kids. I haven't yet watched it, but DD has been so excited that I thought that some language immersion might be nice and educative!

Just because it was my idea doesn't mean you all cannot think of Questios too

What plans have you before and after the cruise
We are hoping maybe to spend a few days in Barclaona first as I've never been there
can't book the flights untill this time next year , hoping for some good deals
but we will be heading straight home after the cruise becauce DS will be starting his new school I think it is 1st Sept

Trying to be considerate...

I'm thinking that we will fly into Barcelona about 3 days before. There are a couple of reasons. First, I think we will all be so excited to get there! party: :hyper: Second, I'm worried about the 9-hour time difference. I'm not sure how we'll do with that, and I'd like to be somewhat adapted before we get on the boat. :boat: I figure the excursions will get us up and moving fairly early, and I don't want to have too much jet-lag at that point. I also figure that after the cruise, we'll be done with tourism , and visiting Barcelona prior will let us acclimate to the time and have leeway in case the flights are delayed.
I hadn't even thought about the school issue, but you're right, I'd have to look at when school resumes...
too excited!!!

we really haven't thought about before and after plans. I know school won't interfere because we don't start school here until after labor day, which is the first Monday of September. We have the time, since if the kids are off from school, someone has to be home to watch them. It really depends on finances once we get closer. Right now this cruise is costing me alot, if financially we're okay then, we may add a few days probably on the front end.

Hi jns,

This was my second Disney cruise. I also went ont the Western Carribean in April 2007 with the kids (who were 17 and 12 at the time). My son was supposed to go with me on the January 2009 cruise, but he didn't want to miss school, so I brought one of my friends from work. I scheduled the Mediterranean because he won't be missing school since it's an August sail date.

I am hoping to spend a couple of days in Barcelona prior to the cruise too. I'll have to do some research.

Looking forward to sailing with you! How many Disney cruises have you been on?

This is my first cruise!!

It will be the best vacation of your life. When you get off the ship, you'll feel like you're a member of a club of sorts. We get excited every time we see a show with the ship on it...it's really weird. I've been on RCL and Carnival and never felt this way....it's hard to explain, you just have to experience it.

We have been on 3 cruises ALL disney
the first was a 3 day on the wonder
which I booked as a surprize for everyone
DH never wanted to cruise :confused3 so when I found a really good deal about a year before I booked it and told him 3 weeks before we went on our wedding annivarys didn't tell the boys until we landed at the port
After that we were hooked
Booked the next one about a week after coming home and the next one we rebooked on board both of them have been 7 nights on the Magic Halloween cruises

I was going to use that question for the question of the week but you've all shared already

What was your best ever Disney surprize ?

with some ice covering, but not much else. There's supposed to be another storm coming through, but they're thinking it's just going to be rain. Who knows they don't always get it right here. Where we live we never get a major amount of snow. I grew up 1 hour north of here and remember having 1foot of snow all the time...here the most I've ever seen is about 6 inches. Don't get me wrong, it can be just as treacherous, but my kids haven't been sleigh riding in about 3 years.

We've only been on one Disney Cruise, so I'll have to default to WDW vacations too.....

On our cruise the best surprise was that we were able to upgrade to a Cat 3 at the port. At WDW, when I was pregnant with my twins, we went to V & A'a to celebrate. My DH had gotten the chef's table in the kitchen and it was awesome. Never had a meal where a top chef catered to my every whim...was a special surprise to be experienced by all.

we've done 5 disney cruises so far. 2 were four day cruises on the wonder and 2 were 7 day cruises to the western caribbean.

our surprise came on our western transatlantic cruise. Two days before flying out to barcelona disney called and upgraded us from an inside cat 10 to a navigator's veranda cat 7. it was wonderful to have the veranda for the sites and the 6 days of crossing the atlantic.

Great upgrade
how did you enjoy the transatlantic
DH thinks that 6 days at sea would be to much

This last September I'd begged to got back to WDW as my b-day present and had booked it cheaply at the All-Stars. We'd stayed only at Wilderness lodge the past 2 times, and I was kind of used to the lake and the music from the light parade every night. I'd made a few comments about how I'd miss this or that, and DH contacted the travel agent behind my back and upgraded us.....to the Grand Floridian! It was really neat staying at a monorail hotel. He managed to keep it secret for a few weeks, but our credit card bill sends an email on-line with the balance front and center. Oops!

The first time we went to WDW was in 2006 as my graduation present (it only took me 14 years to finish my degree..) and DH had arranged for champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, roses, and a treat for DD to be delivered to our room upon our arrival. Very sweet, very tasty!!

I'm contemplating setting up a Facebook page....so I'll let you all know by sending the friend request. My husband has one and it seems to be an efficient website...
