August 17, 2012 Magic in NYC!

The Acela doesn't allow checked baggage. I don't think my family of five can take an 8 day cruise with just carry-on luggage.

Thanks for the heads up. The last time we went to NYC on the Acela we were able to put larger luggage in a gap between the seats. We're a family of 3 and we usually take 1 large bag, 2 medium and 2 backpacks. Then we do laundry on the ship. But we'll make sure to verify the luggage situation before we book the train. :)

We did get to do a bridge tour. Did you hear the horn blow twice when we left CC on Saturday? That was me!! I got to do it when we pulled out, but couldn't hear it because the windows and doors were shut, Captain Henery let me do it again!!! Only I would screw up a once in a lifetime chance!

That's amazing!!! Sadly, I missed that. :( But I did get to meet Capt. Henry and he did seem very nice! He didn't get annoyed when I referred to the Dream as a "boat" and not a "ship". My son always called it "The Big Boat" since he was little so I did it out of habit. Capt. Henry just smiled and chuckled when I blurted it out and then apologized profusely, lol.

Oh the nights we will spend on deck 9!!!!

Bring on the Magic!!!

Amen, sister! :woohoo:

Cayley,

Being the Queen of Amtrak (lol) I asked an Acela conductor and the manager of the Acela club about the luggage.

Each passenger can carry on two bags at 50 pounds. All gave me the wink, weight doesn't matter because you have to lug them. Bags are stored at the front and rear of each coach.

No worries! Pack all you want.

If you have any more Amtrak questions, just ask! I was offered a job last week.

We are firmly in the 200's!!!!!!! It wasnt so long ago the count was over a year...

Hey Keever - you're gonna start on your FE gifts already?! :scared1: I dont start until 3 months before .... my apt is tiny .... i dont know where I'd store everything for over 9 months!!!!

Anyone else start their FE gifts so far in advance?

I just bought myself a cricut - my graduation / christmas gift to myself - its wrapped sitting in my parents basement just waiting for that day in december to be unwrapped - :dance3::dance3::dance3: so i'm hoping to use it to make something for the FE - I dont know what yet - but thats the plan.

We are booked. Currently my DH, DD and I. As weren't flying, if there is a fish extender, we may participate.

As of now it will be just myself and my 5 year old daughter. DH wouldn't be joining us. Would love to bring my mom in his place but she can't leave my dad at home alone. Taking the two of them would be overwhelming (both financially and mentally) so I am hoping to come up with a solution.

Woo-Hoo..... finally can say it: We are cruising THIS year! And Happy New Year to all of us!

We're booked on this cruise also! There are 11 of us going! Our family is my DH, me, DS who's 6, DD who's 3. Also my MIL , FIL, SIL, BIL and their 3 kids! I'm so excited!

Wow! Big party! I've always wanted to go with a huge group! But all our friends think we're crazy for enjoying cruises. Their loss, I keep telling them...

We are 205 days away!!! :cool1:

Anyone know how many formal nights will be on the cruise? It will be me DH and my DD(10)

That's a good question. I noticed recently that the "My Cruise Activities" tab on the DCL website has a cute new format. (New to me anyway.) It lists the deck parties; you'd think that'd be a good place to add formal night or other theme night info.

:confused3

Is anyone else as disappointed as I am that none of the 2013 cruises will be departing from the northeast? I had so hoped that Bermuda (from Boston, NY or Baltimore) would be on the schedule.... I think DCL would have sold them out in a day! I'm not too interested in any going out of Miami, and I'm not that crazy about the Dream or the Fantasy.... looks like my yearly DCL cruises might be coming to an end with this one. I'll just make sure that it's a cruise to remember!

I am excited that we are under 200 days until our cruise. This vacation could not come any sooner. And for those who are booking dinner in WDW remember our window opens on Feb 24!

It is a bit disappointing about Bermuda. They would have definitely had a market. I did Bermuda from NJ on Royal Carribbean. I would only cruise to Bermuda again if I was on DCL. But I know there would be no need to convince DH to go. He would have jumped on that cruise if for no reason but to play golf in Bermuda

Thanks for the heads up!!!!! I dont know where we want to go for dinner .... I was thinking the dinner and show at hollywood and vine and then see fantasmic but not quite sure yet........ :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My beautiful wife and I will be celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary on the 19th. What better place to celebrate than on the Magic!
Now to find someone to watch the doggies.

Does anyone have any strategies as to how they are going to tackle WDW? Having the park hopper makes me want to visit most of the parks but I know that won't happen. I have a 5 year old so I need to be realistic as to how much we will be able to do.
