Okay, can we cruise yet????!!! I am having a YUCKY Monday. I guess it is a good thing that it is almost time for bed!!!

How is everyone else?

Kristin, tell us about your plans!!!

Hi there.....

Well, we are leaving VERY EARLY Friday morning......
When we arrive we are seeing our very good friend who is a CM on the Disney Cruise Line. She does not have to get onboard she is doing a six week job on the Wonder then will be going back to the Magic. So we are going to DownTown Disney for dinner with her and our friends. The kids can't wait to see her.

During our trip we are also doing the Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Our good friends from up the road will also be in Disney with us so we are looking forward to this trip.

It is only for five nights so the kids are a bit bummed out since we usually go for longer. But little do they know that we are going back in Feb. and April.-in April we are going back with their Very Best Little Girl-Friend!!

Have a wonderful time Kristin!!!!! :yay:

Wow, I'd love to hear about life onboard from a CM's perspective. For instance, what things do cruisers do that drives them crazy? What impact do the letters we write have on their employment? Was she on the Magic with us in August???

Hey there. Just hanging out with my DD writing out Christmas cards. :santa: It really needs to snow to feel more like Christmas.

Kristin have a great time in WDW. :mickeybar Have one for us. Also, if you can check your PM I need to ask you to get me something.

Thanks,

:tinker: Janeanne

Any DVC owners have 52 points that they would be willing to rent out to a friend I have a friend who is looking to rent for Oct. 2010....!!

How do I make a long story short... I really can't...

I've been MIA from the boards because of a situation here at home. On Monday night Mikayla our 7 year old went missing for 37 minutes.

She stayed after school for a sign language class. She took the late bus home, this was the first time, at 4:20. Her normal bus picks her up and drops her off at my Mother's house because of our work schedules and where we live. We live on a dirt road in the country. My husband and I waited at her bus stop at 4:20, no bus. 4:30 no bus. 4:40 no bus, at this point I called the school, no answer. 4:50 no bus, again I called the school. My husband and I are really worried, but figure it's a new bus run with kids living all over town. DH wanted to go to school to check, but I said why bother, she's on the bus somewhere.

At 5:07 my phone rings, it's the school wondering if Mikayla got home safely. I screamed into the phone no, she's not here. I know my heart stopped beating. I was put on hold then the woman came back and told me she was dropped off in the next town (where we live) on the county highway 35 minutes ago. DH and I jump in the truck and fly home, it's only 1.2 miles. It's pitch black we have the windows down calling Mikayla's name. I'm still on the phone with the school, while they call the police for a missing child, then we get cut off. DH and I reached the location where Mikayla was left off and she is not there, oh god. We turn up our road, I'm crying to my husband go slow she might be on the road or in the fields and we don't want to hit her. At the top of the hill we could see our house with a light on. We jumped out and ran inside... there she was sitting on the floor crying holding her puppy safe and sound.

Police were called, schools, bus drivers, state officials, etc... Turns out the school gave her a bus pass to the wrong address. When the bus stopped, she told the driver I don't live here. He said your pass says you do. She said no, I go to my grandma's house. He said, too bad, your pass says you live here, get off the bus that's my job. She told us she started crying and ran off the bus. My 7 year old managed to cross a busy county highway alone in the dark, walk up a country road in the pitch black, found a neighbor but they weren't home, continue walking to our house, used the spare key to let herself in. From start to finish she was alone for 37 minutes. The only way anyone knew where she was, was when the bus driver had second thoughts over leaving a small child and called the garage to have someone check on her.

I can not tell you the **** storm I opened on that school Tuesday morning. I was there at 7:30 in the morning for 3 hours of meetings, reports and of course firings, Merry Christmas jerk!!!!!!! Lucky for us this ended well, but because of us the state is now requiring our district to rewrite it's entire busing policy. We did get Mikayla into to see a therapist because she's having a difficult time, but who can blame her.

OMG - this is every parents nightmare. I am so glad everything worked out okay. Some adults do not trust kids who are much smarter then they look.

OMG! You literally have me in tears! :sad1: I freaked out yesterday when I left my daughter in the driveway for a minute yesterday and I walked back out and she wasn't there. She had walked to the front of the house and I couldn't see her. It took about a minute and I felt like it was hours. So, I can't even begin to imagine how you felt. I'm so glad she is safe. :grouphug:

OMG, Michele, I can't imagine what you were going through. I am so, so glad that she is safe. But I saw NOTHING on the news about it - it is a scary story that should be told to other school districts to remind them of common sense actions versus ridiculous ones (on the part of the bus driver!). I don't have any contacts in the school district but have lots in the County after working there for so long. If you need anything, don't hesitate to call/PM me.

That is so scary!! I can't even imagine! I lost my son once for a few minutes at Target, and thought I would die. I'm so glad your story had a happy ending.

VERY scary story! Reminds me of when our DS was lost in a busy department store. Total panic hits when you realize that the young one is missing.

I am certainly glad that she is safe. Good for her for making it home under those circumstances. I firmly believe that youngs ones are sometimes watched over and led by God's angels when the situation requires it. Maybe this was one of those situations.

Remember I am the media. DH and I are tv people. Trust me I was so angry Monday night I wanted to make this the lead story on every tv station in Albany and in the papers... but... I know the chaos first hand a barage of microwave trucks and tv crews cause. I wanted the story told and it was by word of mouth, the old fashioned way. I did not want my DD's face splash all over tv and have her answer stupid questions from 20 year old reporters who have no clue what it's like to be a scared child or a parent. What was I suppose to do, write my own story? I decided in the end it would be an abuse of power... but I did threaten the school Tuesday morning it would be the lead story at five if I didn't get my way. LOL!

Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. Our biggest problem, the kids at school... everyone keeps asking DD about her experience and she doesn't want to talk about it. We're trying to coax her telling her she did the right thing and she's a role model for the other kids. Not working. I'm sure in a couple of days her 15 minutes of fame will die down and things will get back to normal. Hence my decision not to put her on tv, internet, etc.

Totally understandable, Michele. My heart goes out to your little girl. We used your story to sit down with my DD and talk about bus safety again. Even though she is older (10), it is worth it. My daughter was so impressed with what Mikayla was able to do. She should be very proud of herself. With your permission, can I let other moms know about the situation??

BTW, NO ONE could ever accuse you of abuse of power if you had decided to use your media friends. This isn't about calling attention to you (ala Balloon Boy) but rather highlighting a huge failing of the bus system that placed a child in serious jeopardy.

Wow, wait until I tell Mikayla your 10 took a lesson from her. She will think that's so cool! She's only 7 and really doesn't understand how smart she was. I'm lucky we raised a good one. We've always talked to her about different situations when they came up in our t-v world. I did have a hard time explaining former governor eliot spitzer! LOL

By all means, you can share the story! Our school is holding an assembly k-2 to go over safety with all students. It's a lesson every kid should be reminded of, and parents too. Never hurts to have a plan. One problem, I asked Mikayla why she didn't call us... duh... we don't have house phones, only cells. We're thinking about getting her a cell, my luck she'll lose it in 10 minutes.

The t-v thing is just kind of weird to us. Getting paid to cover our own story, just odd.
