Jen.... can you send me the info on the website too??? I just checked my box cause I haven't checked in a long time... but I only have a message about transferring my ressie to another TA.

Thanks... Jami

I know I have a long time to plan... but I am getting anxious! What is everyone else doing "around" the cruise? How are you all getting from the airport to the ship and back? We haven't decided yet whether or not we will go to WDW before or not. I actually start school on Aug 24 so going after is out of the question. This is only our 2nd DCL cruise and we never left from Port Canaveral before so I am interested in what others are doing so I can get some options!:goodvibes

Thanks you!!! Our newest addition just turned 13 months old and is from Taiwan! He will be 2 when we we cruise! We also have a 4 year old daughter (will be 5 at cruisetime) from China!:goodvibes

They sound precious. Can't wait to meet them!!

Disney Dream Features the Latest in Techno-Cruising

When 2011 rolls around, there'll be a brand-new star joining Disney Cruise Line – and this time it's the ship herself. The Disney Dream, scheduled to make her maiden voyage January 26, 2011, is the third – and largest – addition to Disney's fleet of luxury ocean liners that harkens back to the golden age of cruising while providing an unforgettable vacation for every member of the family.

Due to set sail from Florida's Port Canaveral, the Dream is currently under construction in Papenburg, Germany. Disney Cruise Line's Jason Lasecki talks about the Company's decision to build overseas. "Meyer-Werft is a world-renowned shipyard with incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail ... it's the perfect match between their ship-building expertise and our brand."

Initially the ship is built in 83 individual blocks which, when finished, are welded onto the ship's structure in one of the world's largest covered dry docks. When the ship's ready, the building is flooded to float the ship onto the Ems River. "It's truly amazing ... the entire process takes almost 15 months," Jason adds.

The 14-deck ship mixes early 20th century design with state-of-the-art technology and introduces all-new Guest experiences ... while retaining the best features of her sister ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. Imagineer Joe Lanzisero, Senior Vice President Creative, discusses the technology used.

"The Disney Dream is the next generation of Disney cruise ships. Much of the thinking is really an extension of everything learned over the last 10 years, but there are several surprises. We're introducing AquaDuck, the first on-board watercoaster ever designed. By incorporating elements from the Theme Park slides and Typhoon Lagoon's Crush 'n' Gusher technology, we configured a clear acrylic tube that thrusts Guests out over the side of the ship (150 feet above the ocean's surface). Some of the watercoaster features include traveling through the ship's forward funnel, various uphill portions, and river rapids, which provide a spectacular ocean view. It's a thrill ride that's really on par with our Park attractions."

Innovation continues with another cruise industry first – "virtual portholes." Thanks to Disney magic, inside cabins will feature real-time views of the outside world. "Four cameras will be stationed around the ship's exterior to send a live feed to the virtual portholes. Guests will see the exact same views that the actual porthole cabins provide. Plus, animated Disney and Disney·Pixar Characters will intermittently appear in the portholes," says Joe.

The portholes aren't the only place where Disney magic springs to life – the "Enchanted Art" program blends technology with artwork that celebrates the Company's legacy. As Guests wander throughout the Disney Dream, "Enchanted Art" pieces will actually spring to life via animation. "The Imagineers have done an incredible job in making these look like an actual piece of art, regardless of the medium. It can be a textural oil painting, photograph, or any other art form," Joe explains. Guests will view different sequences each time they look at the pieces, thanks to computer programming.

Many of the age-specific entertainment areas have also seen a sprinkling of Disney magic. Adults can virtually visit many of the world's most famous cities at Skyline, a nightclub featuring panoramic, real-time views of Los Angeles, London, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong, to name a few. Pink, an intimate champagne bar, puts Guests inside a champagne bottle ... with animations appearing on large bubbles scattered throughout the club.

Don't think the Dream, or any other Disney cruise ship, is a floating kiddie ride. Imagineers worked to create trendy environments that allow parents to relive the glory days of their youth ... before kids. As for your offspring, Joe doesn't hesitate to reveal what's in store. "We have the best kids' spaces on the ocean ... and we're always looking to improve on that."

One such area is Vibe, a club exclusively for teens. Complete with green screens as well as uber-cool iPod docking stations and computers, teens have the run of the place – including a private open-air deck – accessible via a members-only swipe card. Joe weighs in on creating entertainment for this age group. "We gave teens a dedicated space where the most important thing is connecting with other teens and social networking."

Younger kids can explore various interactive play spaces that feature multi-player video gaming, computer kiosks, animation instruction, and movie screening areas inspired by "Toy Story," Pixie Hollow, "Monsters, Inc.," and "Finding Nemo." The Oceaneer's Club and Oceaneer's Lab, both borrowed from the classic ships, will eliminate age-specific activities and allow kids to do whatever interests them.

Joe sums it up. "For me, I see an opportunity to touch our Guests on a much deeper level than we're able to in the Theme Parks. These ships are filled with all kinds of new challenges and technologies that are different from the Parks ... the core of what we're delivering is no different from anything else we provide. And that's great Disney family entertainment."

According to both Joe and Jason, there's more to come. Disney Cruise Line is still hiding a few surprises up its sleeve, so stay tuned!

Good Morning Everyone! Happy Friday! It is my job to tell you that there are only....

535 Days Until We Cruise!!!!

Jami - Please look for a message from me either later tonight or sometime this weekend!

We are planning on going down early. We will do 5 nights at WDW, 4 nights at the ocean and then hop on the cruise. We plan on renting a car for WDW, the ocean and getting to port. We will then return the car before the cruise and get a new one to bring us to the airport after the cruise. We also have to come home right after the cruise for school.

Kristin - Every time I read about the ship I get excited about the whole vacation! The bummer part is that most of the things in this article have already been published in bits and pieces. I am waiting to find out information like daily schedules, themes for the different days, etc. I think I am a bit impatient though!

Have a great day!
Jen

Morning everyone!!

Did we know before that it was going to be Sorcerer Mickey hanging on the stern of the Dream? So many tibbits come out, I can't remember if I had heard that or not?

I just saw that for the first time, too!

Kristin- Thanks for posting the article! Sounds exciting! I can't wait to go.
How much snow have you gotten?

Kristin
Great article - thanks so much for posting it!! BYW, my sister booked with Carol!!! (Unfortunately, not for our cruise due to the school schedule in Nevada.) She'll be on the Dream in April 2011 - so I plan to pump her for info before we go!!

Reading that article makes me want to hop on the cruise right NOW!!! I am anxious to see those virtual portholes! This will be our first cruise since 2001 without a balcony... and we have done 6 since then (just only 1 was DCL)!

We just aren't sure what we are doing... we have DVC and annual passes so WDW will be our most likely pre-cruise destination! After all...My daughter will need a haircut and she has only ever had her hair cut by Disney! She just had her seventh haircut at Harmony Barbershop on Valentine's Day!

Anyone else know what the are doing pre-cruise?

We're planning on spending a few days at Daytona Beach. Right now we don't have any plans for WDW but I have a niggling feeling that could change...we've never "not" gone to Disney when we go to Florida- the pull of WDW is pretty strong!!

Good afternoon everyone,,

I think after the cruise we will plan on doing WDW for at least a few days/nights. It makes it easier to come home if we go to WDW. Our first cruise we went right home after and it was hard to come home at least by going to WDW it kind of lessens the "blow" of coming home and going back to school.

Another, day off here. Not sure why it did not even really snow. These poor kids are going to be going to school all summer @ this rate!!

We are planning on going to Universal and staying at the Hard Rock for 3 nights before the cruise with our friends. We have never been to Universal or the Hard Rock Hotel. Has anyone stayed at this hotel...any comments?

How did you guys get missed again?!?! We got another foot down here! Those psycho TV weather people are already getting us primed for another big storm next week, too..... I am one more snow flake away from losing my mind! :scared1:

I know you got hit hard again that last storm, I'm glad it missed us and went up the coast. We're supposed to get that next storm on Wed. pretty bad again so maybe it'll spare you next time. I think I'll move to Florida on Monday! :rotfl:

Well on another note, I ended up getting that awful thing that my son's class had last Tuesday. He went back to school on Thursday and the teacher told him that only 7 kids were there on Wednesday. That means almost 2/3rds of the class got what ever that was in 1 day!!!! Think it was the NOROVIRUS? We're mostly better now, just trying to catch up on laundry and cloroxing all the hard surfaces in my house.

Fingers-crossed here on that next storm - some models do show it going south of us (sorry!).

The stomach bug made its way through the schools here, too. Knock-on-wood that no one got it here (yet!). There's no magic pill to take for that nastiness!! Hope you are all feeling better.

We are in VERY Eastern PA (about an hour and a half north of Philly) and just got about 18 inches on Thursday and Friday! What's funny is that about 10 minutes from here they only got about 7 inches! :sad2: Really I do love snow... I am a kid at heart... but this is getting CRAZY!! Our kids were supposed to get out of school on June 8 and we are no up to June 14. (That means us teaches are in till the 16th).

We are heading down to WDW again in July and thought about taking my 4 year old to the My Disney Girl's Perfectly Princess Tea. It costs $250.00:eek: and I was wondering if anyone did it before and could tell me if it is worth it??? My daughter, Jenni, currently thinks she IS a princess! She wants o know when they are going to make a movie about HER! She is going to marry a prince and live in a castle whe she grows up... I think it might be the perfect time to do this while she is so very into the Princess thing!

Anyone have any info? It's a lot of $$$ and I would like to know that I am getting something good!
