Hope you made the school bus ok - thank you for your report.

I've a quick question- did they have the fillet mingion (sp?) in Palo like on the Magic? Hope so as dh loved that;)

On the sail - away did I read it correctly that they were passing drinks around
or was that just at the concierge deck - I've never known Disney to give away drink except on the castaway club reception;)

Yes, guests had to pay for alcoholic drinks on the deck at the sailaway party. Soft drinks were free at the drink stations. You could get drinks (wine, beer, and hard alcohol) for free if you were up in the concierge lounge -- so that's what we tended to do, but now and then we bought drinks if we were at a bar. The concierge lounge had happy hour every day between certain hours (I've already forgotten the exact times!) Steve thought their selection of stuff was decent.

Yes, they did have some sort of yummy steak at Palos that Steve ordered on Palo Night #2...

Thanks so much for your report so far!!!

Third Segment:
Also on night one was the PremEar of Pirates IV: On Stranger Tides. The flick started at 12:01am and we did not stay up to see it! I also forgot to mention that when we went to our stateroom at the start of the cruise there was a red Castaway Club beach bag that had two water bottles, some flip flop rice krispy treats, and a DCL key chain. I think that was all of the loot in the bag!

On Day II we woke up early, Steve hit the fitness center when it opened and I went to the concierge lounge for much needed java (it opened at 7). We ended up eating bread, cheese, and fruit (they had cereal and danish too) in the lounge so didn't venture over to any of the restaurants. That would hold true each morning for us. Coffee and small stuff was enough for us, given all the rich food we were consuming for the dinners. We made our way to the meeting point for our excursion to Atlantis aquaadventure. That went seamlessly and DCL transport took us over to Paradise Island and the Atlantis. Talk about huge and beautiful. We were amazed at the size of the hotel. It was beautiful. Steve did several of the huge water slides and gave it a thumbs up for being "awesome". I didn't care to do anything but sit on loungers and hang out pool-side. The slides didn't appeal to me. I did enjoy walking around -- a word of advice: definitely bring comfortable flip flops or water shoes. The sidewalks were hot and people who were barefoot were very uncomfortable hopping around.

We had lunch, Steve did more slides, and then we walked the hotel grounds, checking out the beach, the Dig, and the casino before we decided to call it a day and head back to the ship. After going to Atlantis, I'm not so sure we'll be doing it with our 7-year olds in August. The place was so huge and it wouldn't be relaxing listening to my kids beg and plead to go on the water slides (and their mom would not be comfortable having them go down some of those huge slides even if their dad thought it was okay). I think we'll probably end up doing a beach day either at Blue Lagoon or joining eyesformickey at the Nassau Hilton....

Once we got back to the ship we went to the Rainforest Room, enjoyed the amenities, and then decided to disembark again to go meet Whitney at the prearranged shop. She was a huge help and we found something that pleased me greatly. Then we got back on the ship and walked around. The pools were all crowded and Quiet Cove was definitely hopping with people drinking and enjoying the sunshine. Deck 13 above it was deserted so if anyone wanted a lounge chair they could be gotten there. Also on Deck 13 are the basketball hoops area and a miniature golf area. Kids and adults were there and it looked like everyone was having fun in the sun! People did tell us that the pools were crowded throughout the day. So the theory that staying on the ship would mean no lines at Aquaduck didn't hold true, though it had to be less crowded than when everyone was on the ship.

Night 2 at Palo was much better. Our server (same one as the night before) even apologized for how long everything took the previous night. We told him we didn't mind as we were in the cruise frame of mind, but he gave us each a complimentary glass of wine to start off the dinner. I ordered another fish entree and this one was much better. Steve ordered the steak and thought it was great! The souffle was also "to die for"! This night was more like the Palo night we had enjoyed last October on the Magic.

We skipped the show "Villains" because we had seen it on our last cruise. It wasn't one of my favorites then, so we decided to give it a pass on this cruise. We did see bits and pieces of the Pirates Party and we hung out on Deck 13 above Quiet Cove to watch the Fireworks -- that was fun to see as I had missed it on the last cruise b/c my daughter had an asthma episode that day. By the way, there are lots of adult activities going on all day long -- I think someone had asked about this -- there was a margarita and mojito tasting in Evolution, there was an ESPN Dream Team Draft thing, some different ship tours, and other stuff. Steve wandered down to wherever the sports stuff was aired but I was happy staying put on a lounge chair reading my book.

Day 3 in the glorious spot called Castaway Cay is coming up...

Hi Guys
I got an email from DCL today - they changed our GTY status and gave us a room -2030.

My parents got theirs too, 6004. Still waiting to hear if my brother has a cabin assignment yet. BTW, she found it when completing her online check-in, it wasn't on the main page of her reservation.

I got all excited...but our reservation still says gty. :sad2: I can't wait to find out our cabin number.

GOOD MORNING LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,
BOYS AND GIRLS!
WE SET SAIL FOR OUR DREAMY TWO TIMES THE FUN IN THE CARIBBEAN SUN CRUISE IN 12 WEEKS! THAT IS ONLY 84 DAYS AWAY!
:banana::banana::banana:
WelcomeDisneyDream.jpg

Again thank you for another weekly countdown that we all look so forward to :banana::banana:

Hey everyone,

To continue where I left off with our recent 3-Day Dream cruise:

While people were still coming onto the ship, Steve and I walked around checking everything out. We peeked into the dining rooms, knowing that we weren't going to try them out this time, but wait until we were with the twins in August. All of the dining rooms are beautiful! We also went up to the Vista Spa to check out the amenities. Before the cruise I had booked the Couples Villa, but changed my mind and decided to spend the money on a Serenity Bay Cabana. I decided that it would be more penny wise (ha!) to have a cabana for several hours than enjoy the spa stuff for less time. That said, the spa rooms look amazing, so you can't go wrong doing that either!

I wanted to hear about the shopping in Nassau (a place I've only been to once before about thirty years ago) so we went down to the Buena Vista Theatre to listen to Whitney (the Disney personal shopping guide) talk about the ins and outs of shopping in DCL places. I wanted to upgrade a piece of jewelry I had gotten in Grand Cayman on my last cruise, so it ended up that Whitney told me she'd meet us at the store the next day after our excursion to Atlantis ended. I know nothing about gemstones, so was glad to hear that she would help us.

The sailaway party was already in full swing when we went up to the upper decks. Cast members were handing out streamers, drinks were being passed around, kids were playing in the water, and the aquaduck had acquired quite a line by then! The ship blasted the horn with the famous sound "When you wish upon a star" (which brought a huge smile and a catch in my throat) and we were off! There were a couple of cast members on land who waved to us with their big mickey hands.

Steve and I wandered back upstairs to deck 12. The concierge lounge was full of people and free drinks were available as well as other finger foods. We took our glasses of wine and went out on our verandah to watch the boat move out of the port and into open water. We called the kids one last time while our cellphones still worked. All was well at home, so we sat back in our lounge chairs and enjoyed feeling the ship go into the ocean. The water was unbelievably pretty and those love bugs were now all gone!

We got unpacked (as mentioned earlier there were plenty of shelves and cupboards to put our things into). Steve logged into the Surf at Sea stuff to get his computer all connected. Turns out that if you are in concierge you pay the $40 for 100 minute fee, but you get it refunded back at the end of the cruise. The connections are really slow, so Steve used it rarely to check email. After we got settled, we went downstairs to see the 6:15 show called The Golden Mickeys. It was great! Loved it......

We got dressed for Palo and went upstairs. There is a nice bar between Palo and Remy so we went there and had a drink. Our reservation was for 7:40pm and the restaurant was still fairly empty when we got there. They seated us up on the second level and we were the only ones there except for a couple of tables of crew members. There must have been at least 10 tables that remained open the whole time we were there. We figured that since it was the first night of a three day cruise, maybe people wanted to eat in the family dining areas since if you went to Palo you would miss one of the restaurants on the three day cruise. Our service was "okay" kind of slow given the relatively uncrowded nature of the restaurant. Steve enjoyed his rack of lamb, but my fish (wrapped in parchment) was rather bland. We passed on the chocolate souffle (I planned on getting it the next night) and left deciding that while our meal was good, it wasn't over the top. Our Palo experience on the Magic last October was definitely better. We still had fun, though, and we planned on going back again the next night.

After we were done, we went back to our room to change into comfy clothes. Then we headed down to Evolution as I had convinced Steve that we needed to check out the adult lounges. "Pink" is pretty, "Skyline" is cool, and there are definitely adult bars and areas all over the place. In "Evolution", a show called "Match Your Mate" was just about to start. Steve made me promise not to volunteer us which was just fine with me! We did enjoy the show (three couples are picked) and a dynamic duo who had been married 47 years won the bottle of champagne.

We then headed over to the shops to check out the merchandise. Lots of inaugural voyage pins, shirts, to be had. The stores even had the large vinylmation mickeys that I had lugged onto the ship (though theirs were $42 instead of my $14.99 ones on sale!). I bought a few things for the girls and we called it a night. Tomorrow would be Nassau Day!

More later.... Gotta get the twins on the school bus soon. :)

I am just loving your trip report, thanks for posting it :)

My sister is fluent in ASL. She took non-credit classes at Galludet when she was living in Washington, DC and when she was working for Carnival (she was an IT officer) they often called on her when they needed to communicate complicated conversations with hearing impaired guests. Sis is graduating from nursing school in a few weeks so I'm guessing that her ASL fluency will come in handy there too!

ASL fluency is an amazing skill to have. Kudos to your dd for choosing ASL over one of the other languages! :thumbsup2

Congrats to your sister on her graduation :thumbsup2

That's awesome! My daughter is trying to decide weather to try our for cheer or the pom squad (our schools version of dance) next year.

So cool that your school offers dance instead of PE, I think more kids would be physically active if they could do the kind of PE that they want to do instead of having to do a bunch of stuff they don't want to do. My daughter has been teaching herself sign language by looking up song lyrics on the internet, she says that she might decide to take sign language as her language elective too.

I'm glad they offer dance also, because our school has a pool and for 9th and 10th grade you have to take swim in PE...Not pretty especially if you have swim in the morning, yuck, the girls are blowing their hair etc etc doesn't make for a fun day. Good for your daughter teaching herself ASL, it's hard so she is doing great!

My sister just had a tornado go through her back yard last night. Luckly the house only has some broken windows and their car got a little banged up. She said that there were 15 people (neighbors too) and 2 dogs in her tiny underground shelter. It's a good thing they had it installed a few years ago!

:thumbsup2 great! :thumbsup2
Looks like we r handy for enchanted garden too - I wonder wether they do breakfast ?

That would be great if they do breakfast, I didn't think about that, time to go look up that info! Just looked it up, they do breakfast, lunch, and dinner! :thumbsup2
