August 16, 2011 – 7 Night Alaska Sailing

I definitely remember the 45s ... we actually had a Strawberry Shortcake themed record player that we played them on! I can't remember what my favourites were, but the "turn the page when Tinkerbell rings her bell" part I do remember. Like Mrs. Gumdrop, I was probably too wrapped up in my Cabbage Patch Kids!

(Our Cabbage Patch Kids ended up being stored in the cedar chest - between my sister and I, we had six (three boys and three girls). Just recently my three toddler nephews discovered them and have adopted the boys as their "babies". They also occasionally watch Strawberry Shortcake on Playhouse Disney (Disney Junior) ... it's strange how things come back around ... even Care Bears!)

Mellers ... I've decided not to join a FE group because there is a chance we won't be able to cruise afterall. My fiercely independent, just turned 88-years-old grandmother has experienced some major medical setbacks since March. As a result she has lost all mobility and is hospitalized; she has been classified as "end-stage" with no real timeframe given. My mother also has medical power of attorney. So, all things considered, my grandma's condition near cruise time will dictate whether or not we will travel. (I'm so glad we opted to purchase Trip Insurance.)

My grandma has lived a very full life on her own terms, so our prayer for her now is that she is at peace and without pain. That said, it's been a very difficult few months. Fortunately we're a fairly large, close-knit family and the majority of us live in the same town as my grandma. As a result, my grandma is rarely alone during the day - which is a good thing since she is much more at peace when one of us is with her.

As for my mom and I, our lives have developed a new routine that revolves around the "supper shift" at the hosptal. (My dad has taken over kitchen duty at home.) Some days are admittedly better than others. My grandma still enjoys being outside, so we try to take her for walks around the hospital grounds as much as possible. The further we go, the happier she seems to be. (I think she thinks we're breaking the rules for her.) The days when the weather fails to cooperate, howver, are the pits!

I just wanted to say that my prayers and good wishes are with you and your family during this time. The circle of life is a difficult thing. I am glad you have such a wonderful family and support one another. :lovestruc

I have a question, for all those cruisers who remember the "pre-VCR" era. What was your favorite Disney story record? (It's okay to have more than one favorite)

Mine were:

Winnie the Pooh: Story and Songs
The Three Little Pigs
and the record that had The Sorcerer's Apprentice and Peter and the Wolf on it.

Also, does anyone else remember the little 45's that came with storybooks? ("You will turn the page when tinkerbell rings her little bell like this..")

My favorite large story record was Peter and the Wolf. I have quite a collection of the little 45's with storybooks, probably 50 of those little hummers. I just love them!

Ok, I know I haven't posted for a while, it's been crazy. DS (Eric) graduated from High School, and became an Eagle Scout. Finally all of the ceremonies and parties are over. He really surprised me by presenting me with his Eagle Mentor pin in addition to the Eagle mom pin...

Anyway, yes I remember the 45's. My favorite must have been The Aristocats, because I passed the book (lost the 45) to my kids. Also, I still love Marie! The kids had (still have packed away somewhere) an entire case of the cassette tapes with books.

Also, now that everything is over, and I have more time (I had to scrapbook 4 books for the aforementioned occasions), I have purchased one FE item, and started work on the other item. Mom has the idea for her item, but it cannot be purchased until closer in. DS & DD in their own cabin are procrastinators, hence DS had his Eagle project signed 8pm the night prior to his 18th b-day.

As for the FE themselves (I am responsible since I signed everyone up). I have no idea what I am doing. Worse case scenerio, I'll be buying something...

We are flying to Seattle on 8/13 and taking the morning train to Vancouver on 8/14. Trying to finish up all of those reservations within the next month.

I didn't have the Aristocats, but I had several of the others and I always loved them.

It sounds like things have been pretty busy for all of you guys. It'll all come together.

Remember, you don't have to do something expensive or big for the FE. I bought a Cars-themed child's apron with pockets from a thrift store for 99 cents, and I'm putting a tote bag behind it in case something's too big for the pockets.

We are flying to Seattle on 8/13 and taking the morning train to Vancouver on 8/14. Trying to finish up all of those reservations within the next month.

Hope you get a chance to see a little bit of Seattle--we love it here.

I had so much fun with those as well. How neat that you still have your collection!

meller can you post the newest list so I can make my FE.

ALSO TO EVERYONE: what is your favorite Disney song???? It's a Small World, Tiki Tiki Room, Be Our Guest, Unnder the sea, The Bear Necessities ect...

Pop, this is a tough choice, I love so many!

1- When You Wish Upon a Star -- brings a tear every time and has a great connection to DCL :wizard:
2- All the music from Mary Poppins! I love them all and can't possibly pick one!
3- Bippity Boppity Boo -- this song just sounds like magic (excuse mt spelling)
4- Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow -- this song just perfectly captures Walt's outlook. What better song can yo sing when you need an attitude adjustment?
5- Color of the Wind -- I love to sing. This song is so beautiful and fun to sing. I wish the film had been better. :sad2:

I could keep going, but this is a good representation of my favorites...

My top favorites are:

Some of my favs are: the opening show from Magic Kingdom, great big beautiful tomorrow, just can't wait to be king, tiki room (the orginal not under new managment), .

When you wish upon a star is our wedding song.

I also like Not in Love, Baroque hoe-down from the main street electrical parade, and the sound track from illuminations and remember dreams come true fireworks.

1. You can make (or purchase) any kind of gift you want, any way you want for the other cabins. It can be one gift for everyone, a package gift, one gift for kids and one gift for adults, or individual gifts for each person, or some other combination I didn't list.

2. If you are on the "Mickey Group" List, you are only responsible for giving gifts to the cabins on the "Mickey Group" List. If you are on the "Pluto Group" List, you are only responsible for giving gifts to cabins on the "Pluto Group" list. If you "arrh" on the "Pirate Group" List, you are only responsible for giving gifts to the cabins on the "Pirate Group" List. Each listed cabin should give a gift.

3. Nobody should feel like they need to "break the bank"--not on the gifts, shipping, or luggage fees. This should be fun, not a burden on anyone.

4. You can deliver your gifts any day or time you want, as long as they are delivered before noon on 8/22.

5. The Mickey and Pluto Groups have closed. All those adding between now and 6/18 will be added to the Pirate Group. On 6/18, all groups will close.

6. Existing Participants: If I have made a mistake on your celebrations, the list(s) that you want, or your information, please let me know ASAP. New Participants: You will be added to the Pirate Group.

7. Whether or not you are participating in the FE, you are welcome at the cruise get-together. We are planning to have it in Diversions at 3 p.m. August 16th (Children are allowed in Diversions at that hour). If somebody has reserved Diversions (I have not), and it is not available, we'll all meet in the Promenade Lounge at 3 p.m. Kids and teens are welcome.

8. Whether or not you are participating in the FE, you are welcome at the pre-cruise get-together. While you do not have to let me know you are coming, if you know you are coming, it's helpful for me to know so I can get a bigger table. However, if it looks like you can come last-minute, come anyway--it'll be fine :) . It will be at 5 p.m. August 15th at the White Spot in Richmond, BC (near the airport). If you need something before the cruise, we'll be near a large shopping mall (Lansdowne Center), so that might be of help.

The White Spot is at 5880 No. 3 Road (No. 3 Road and Ackroyd), Richmond, BC V6X 2E1. There are two White Spots on No. 3 Road, so you'll want to make sure you're at the closest to the Lansdowne Shopping Centre, at the Ackroyd cross street. If you are staying at Canada Place, and don't have a car or don't want to drive, take the Canada Line from the waterfront to the Lansdowne Station. It's just a short distance down No. 3 Road past the shopping centre. You'll probably see the big sign when you get down from the station (the station exits onto No. 3 Road). Kids and teens are welcome.

If there are any questions, or a rule becomes a problem for somebody, let me know.

Thanks,

Mellers

I forgot to add Love, from the animated Robin Hood. That was the first movie I ever saw in a theatre.

I am sorry for your difficult situation. I hope that everything works out for the best.

I just wanted to say that my prayers and good wishes are with you and your family during this time. The circle of life is a difficult thing. I am glad you have such a wonderful family and support one another. :lovestruc

Mellers and Mrs. Gumdrop ... thanks for the prayers and well wishes, they are deeply appreciated. (It strikes me so often how kind and compassionate DISers are.)

Hi Everyone - well our list is down by one :headache: One in our group could not get her passport! She was a home birth in 1943 and apparently her birth records were not filed in a timely manner - the validity of her birth in the USA is not being disputed, the paperwork was just not filed on time! We are interested in the Pirate FE list if there are others! It would be just me and my sweet hubby participating. Thanks!
